There’s no less than 12 ‘keeper’ defenders that I’m keen to start with this season..
It's such a weird position this year, that's for sure. Normally I'm trying to find 6 rookies there so I can only have to start 2

In contrast, there are zero rookie defenders that I'm keen to start with this season.
I really liked the look of Cox, like start him on the field level liked. He'll be in my team until he's not picked round 1

North Melb.
Agree.

A 6-0-2 setup on the cards but the problem with that is missing out on 1 or 2 must-have defenders.
My latest iteration had Duggan down at D5.
Laird + 3 of Daniel/Mills/Stewart/Short/Ridley + Duggan.

But it comes at the expense of starting someone like Heppel or Heeney, who I both like more than their similarly priced defenders.

No mention of Luke Ryan, who was the 2nd highest Def SC scorer last year.
Is it his price why he is not popular? As I can't think of another reason.

Price & Hamling/ Pearce/ Logue all now fit so will not be the main key defender.
Still think he is a decent pick, set to play 3rd tall defender but he did have an injury scare today.

I'm just catching up on the news. These preseason injuries are really stuffing up my preseason planning, there seems to be a lot more this year. I suppose last season's debacle is adding to some of these injuries?

I really hope the Bont thing was more of a learning process, Bont is a similar type to what Mills should be as the big body, strong marking and elite kicking guy who just finds space where there is none.

I'd be filthy if we use him as a tagger, he's the best kick in the team by a wide distance, he's great in the contest and has excellent hands. Be like the Pies using Pendles (still my main comparison player) as a tagger...

And then I remember Horse is our coach and I just accept that it probably happens. The one positive is his version of tagging last year was just to beat Bont to the ball over and over again rather than the more traditional wait and tackle approach

Well on that tagging thing isn’t hewett fit for this year? Maybe he comes back in and mills is free. I still see Clarke/hewett as your taggers not an a grader like mills.
Atm I’m going without Lloyd and am picking mills

I'm leaning towards both but Lloyd is absolutely the one I wouldn't pick if Mills is a genuine midfielder. I think Lloyd is about 10 points overpriced, I don't think we're nearly as bad as last year, especially if Mills plays midfield and Hickey can be even competitive in the ruck (let a man dream).

Only real reasons I've worked Lloyd into my team is that even at 112 he's a damn hard upgrade and as a defensive pick in case I'm wrong (it happens more than I'd like to admit!).

To me the only other likely relevant Swans would be Parker (upgrade target if he had a bad game), Heeney, Blakey (longshot), Hickey (cash cow) and Campbell/Gould/Gulden (Rookies).

The round 14 bye makes them the worst upgrade targets (too late or cop the bye for certain). Negative with the bye is the two main rucks are out, Laird (can swing mid), Ryan and the Pies guys also share the bye but that's the easiest bye to deal with so not a major issue.

I don't expect the Swans to tag often, Hewett can, hopefully Clarke wont be playing at all (he's just wasting minutes from kids with chances of being genuine AFL players) but I'd hope we don't do it often, it's not something we've done a lot, generally it's a reactionary measure when someone gets off the chain.

Swans flooded the backline line and tagged last year, couldn't score, expect by mid point of the season defensive measures are used. Mills would be surprising to be used as a tagger, too mature now for that, thats for a 2nd string player. Gained Hickey and Heeney back, lost Allir, no Buddy, JPK that one year older at the wrong part of his career. Still rebuilding phase, slightly to moderately better though than last year as kids mature and if new kids can do well.
