I know that a cricket ball changes over time, and when it gets hit out of the ground/gets damaged they try to replace it with one of a similar number of overs. Maybe just replace it with a new ball each time. Sometimes that will help the batting team, sometimes the fielding team. Add a bit more strategy to things. Both teams get a turn to bat anyway, so it's not favouring one team over the other.
