That’s potentially a play, depending on the player, but there is still plenty of rounds to go and this feels more like a Hail Mary play with 3-4 rounds to go to make 1-200 pts, not the 500+ pts I need.
I don’t think bringing in a high ceiling player needs to be a Hail Mary move, but I see what you’re saying and agree that it’s not time for one of those.

I think the high ceiling aspect is
about giving yourself an opportunity to make up those points, rather than locking in a popular 100-type player who likely won’t really have much impact on your score versus those ahead of you.

You’re much more in the mix than I originally thought. I’ve mentioned a couple of opportunities I would be weighing up above.

You’re probably already doing it, but I’d be keeping a close eye on roles. Shifts in role sometimes go under the radar (admittedly probably less so this year, with all the additional data from sources like DFS), and people target player X more because they’ve scored well year to date/have a brand name than because they’re playing in a role that will help them score well going forward. You’re also far enough back that you won’t be the #1 opponent that other coaches are worried about right at the moment, which is helpful if you’re seeking to make up ground. It would be much easier for you to select and maintain a POD versus the leader, than for the coach who is currently sitting 2nd.

Considering two options to cover Dunkley- keen to hear opinions.
Current cover for Dunkley is Cincotta/Maric

1. Trade Fyfe to Sheldrick- 4 trades remaining. The following week will consider 2 trades to facilitate Day to Sicily. Will be down to 2 trades then.

2. Trade Fyfe to Cuningham- the $150k to be used for a Day to Sicily next round. Then down to 3 trades.
Go option 2, that way you use one less trade to get to Sicily next week….
being at the pointy end hope you go well!
Also depends on whom you have to cover for Dunkley this week too

Serious question - I see a lot of people bringing in Mills at $400k.

For the majority of people bringing him in, is he your M8 or just elite cover?

I am contemplating bringing him in as cover but will leave me on 3 trades and Johnson is my M9 cover. Doesn't seem worth.

Thanks man.
Covering Dunks this week would be either the Fyfe replacement (Sheldrick or Cuningham) or Cincotta.
Afraid that there could be a 50 pt difference in what Cuningham/Cincotta score compared to Sheldrick, but the $150K extra would be sweet.

Cover for me but could end up M8 depending on his main role from here (played more midfield last week albeit without Warner).

It all depends on what you use that $150k for in order to gain an advantage over the other teams I suppose.

Will be interesting to see how Sheldrick plays on the wider expanses of the MCG as opposed to the SCG and Gabba confines….
will be a sliding doors moment, the two teams above you also have Fyfe, cant see them both bringing in Sheldrick at his price…

I see. And if he ends up M8, who becomes your M9? I'm trying to figure out where he fits in for a lot of teams, because if he becomes your M8, I would assume you have an out-of-favour premo sitting on your bench?

I think fading him for an extra trade might be worth it. Not sure yet.

M8 for me as I see him having a greater ceiling than any teams whom have a Steele, Cripps at M8.
luxury to have as M9 but unfortunately that’s not something i want to do, would rather spend up on the uber premiums in midfield than have to run a weaker M7 or M8 just to have Mills as cover…

Johnson as M9 is more than adequate

This is more along the line of what I am thinking when I'm seeing so many bring him in. Just curious as to to know the percentage of people using him to finish their team vs elite cover.

Hope he goes well for you!

I’ve got him in as M8 for the time being, but if he starts underperforming then he’ll switch to cover. Basically between him, Day and D Cameron for who’s sat on the bench as cover with DPPs allowing me to get most of those combos

M8 for me, because my team is crap, ranked at about 15k, and I can't afford anyone better.

I have a cavalcade of spuds that could easily end up M9 (Day or Steele). Might even just play Mills ahead of them regardless of where Mills plays or just starting looping them.

M8 for me. Which shows where my team is at. Balancing cash gen and cover through the byes led me to here. Could have gone someone further up the price ladder, but still balancing, this time trades remaining and bench cover. And I expect that Mills scores as well as plenty in the 500k range.

Would eventually push Steele to M9 for me. Sydney play a lot of early games and St.Kilda play mostly late games for the upcoming period so can just rotate those two.

I have Dunkley in my mids, so I will be using Mills to cover him for the next 2 weeks and maintain 22 premiums. In an ideal world I'd be finding a way to push Day to the bench instead but unfortunately trades are running low.
