Just going over the draft starting team. Am i considering too many players with the early byes.. The most difficult decision is Grundy and #35 both have the RD 5 bye.
Grundy price cannot be ignore and then there is #35, will defently be top 6 DEF in 2024 and is my favourite player to watch.
Then their is Touk and Walsh in the MIDS. Gawn in the RK.
So my draft team, players with 2 byes......
Walsh (RD2)
Touk (RD3)
Grundy - #35 (RD5)
Gawn (RD6)
My Current Structure
DEF #35 Sicily Ridley Young
MIDS Laird LDU Brayshaw Touk Walsh Steele
RK Gawn Grundy
FWD Macrae
I am using a basic formula as follows
Keepers 110 Average
Rook/Midprice 65 Average
This is 5 missing keeper scores (110pts) potential from the first 6 rounds (round ZERO not considered). Expecting a loss of points to be in the range of 235pts.
My biggest concern is having a rank in the 30K+ range early in the season.??
So the question to the members.........
(1) Too many points to give up early in the season.? (NOTE) I am not expecting Steele to be a keeper. Bont will replace RD 7-8.
(2) How many players from the early bye rounds are you considering.?
(3) What do you see a long term benifits VS short term lost of points in the early rounds.?

Laird, Butters, Serong, Brayshaw, Reid, McKercher, Sanders, Curtin (Binns, Sharp, Clark)

Macrae, Moore, Wilson, Bauer, Darcy, Mannagh (Cadman, Nyuon)
13 premos with only 1 mid-pricer in Williams. Usually I wouldn’t pick a team with this many dodgy rookies on field, but will be the way I’ll go I think given it’s best 18 in those early byes. Obviously may hurt a little in rounds 1 and 4.

Very little exposure to the early byes. 2 premos, a mid-pricer, and a rookie who probably wouldn’t make best 18 anyways. Round 3 has no on field players so it leaves room to go for a Flanders type of I wanted to.
Finding defence to be the easiest position to figure out who the top 10 guys are.
Daicos, Sicily, Stewart, Ryan, Sinclair in tier 1. Newman, Houston, Sheezel, Ridley Young and Whitfield in tier 2. Short, Lloyd, Redman, Richards, NWM and Coleman in tier 3. McKercher a slim chance maybe?

I agree with Eagling that you only pick Steele, Touk and Walsh if you think they're top 10 mids both on games played and average. You don't want 3 M8's. Unless you think they're going to be perma captain's, most mids can be picked up around $600k and Walsh is $576. He's sharing the points with a few at Carlton and his price shouldn't get out of hand. Miller and Steele save about $50k and $70k and Miller and Walsh cost you about 50-60 points with their bye. The best value is usually from starting rookies and premiums with interrupted scoring during the year. Whether it's a cash cow, a stepping stone, a value pick or a fallen premium you really need $150k of "value". Now I know it doesn't always work out that way and we compromise a lot but you shouldn't have to compromise with a clean slate.
I would think Miller and Walsh are better as trade targets. Steele could be worth a punt if he doesn't have any preseason hiccups.
