I’ll admit, the sub $300k forward line is looking a lot more viable. Risk is still there if a heap flop in the regular season as corrections would be tough.. but I see the appeal and that it could work well if the premiums on other lines are nailed.
One thing that will be very interesting is if Grundy does become non viable, how everyone who had him rejigs their team. Because there isn’t a set like for like swap that could be done on another line mean funds need to come from somewhere to take him up to a genuine premium. Do you sacrifice a top line premium, an expensive rookie/mid pricer, or look to take cash from a few different spots?

I didn't watch ever but what I find most telling is Ladhams 71% TOG and Grundy 60% TOG.

There is media out there that think the swans will opt for 2 rucks.

Lots of Grundy out this morning. If he is a loan ruck round 0 could be just as many back in.
I would have thought that question #1 from Grundy’s manager would have been whether potential acquirers would be playing him as the lone ruck!

Has anyone got any reference materials summarising the byes (especially the early ones) and impacts on team selection etc.
I've not had the time available to do my own planning and research
Has there been any articles or cheat sheets published?
Cheers

Yes completely agree. I’m currently running Darcy/gawn (Naismith) ruck setup so Grundy doesn’t affect me if he flops. Just not convinced on him something changed that season when he signed that Mega deal

Anyone know much about Harvey Thomas (GWS) ?
Scored 72 last night, 14 disposals @ 71%, 9 contested. 6 tackles.
Had 75% TOG
He has looked good in the match-sim & practice match. A half-forward role. There was no Greene in the match-sim, and Daniels got injured in the first half last night, but he would still be close to starting team even with them both playing.

Still no Perryman/Cumming/Callaghan/Darcy Jones, and while none are direct competitors for his spot, it does make the fight for spots tougher.

I expect GWS forward 7 will look like this:
HF: Greene Hogan Riccardi
F: Daniels Cadman Bedford
I/C: 1 of Brown/Thomas

So Thomas may be sub, or may fighting Brown for a spot, or they may run with 8 forwards & give Greene some mid-time (feels a bit of a stretch)

See how he goes in Round 0 if he's there.
If Daniels misses some time (ankle knock last night) - I would feel better about his job security.

I reckon Brown is close to a lock so I’m hoping there’s room for Thomas too. Has done everything he can to earn an opening round spot.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to pick a $117,300 player as it’s looking likely he’ll be the only one!

Yeah Thomas hasn't put a foot wrong.

I still think he'll be squeezed out to sub, but be ready to go if any of Greene/Brown/Daniels/Bedford miss.

Now this is a personal observation from me about swans games and rucks over the years, and I could be completely off the mark.

Swans style of play is not conducive to large ruck scores. We rarely get the ball out of stoppages quickly, so the amount of hit outs might be high, but hitouts to advantage are a lot rarer than they are for other teams. This immediately puts Grundy at a disadvantage.

Couple this with the fact we play half our games on a very narrow and small field in the SCG, where counter attacking causes a lot of players to be bypassed in plays. This means Grundy is less likely to get back in defence and potentially get forward in attack to be involved in link up plays.

So I think, it’s not the fact that Grundy won’t be good enough nor the opportunity as sole ruck, but the factors of his teammates and ground make it very difficult for him to score those monster totals.

Couple this with the fact we use a couple of chop out rucks in McLean and Amartey at times and I’m really starting to doubt Grundy outperforms the very top rucks. 105-110 average is where I think he will sit.
As there very been a Swans ruck score at premium levels?

I just don't think they have really had a genuine premo ruck in recent times to score at premo levels. Mumford was maybe close. But teams have proven over the years you don't need a premo ruck. Richmond and the Cats are examples. And in the case of Grundy and the SCG a) at one time he had a very good record there although not recently and b) he does get to play around half the season away from the SCG anyway. The issue really now appears to be, are they splitting ruck duties. And hopefully Rd 0 will tell us that. A plan B definitely required for those who had Grundy pencilled in as a starter if they do run two rucks.
