Have settled on this team. This is by far the most happy I’ve been structurally all preseason. $16,600 in the bank.

View attachment 69203 View attachment 69202

Structure:
14 keepers in an ideal world… so that’s including Martin, Yeo and Fisher. 4/4/2/4 premo structure with 2 mids (Flanders and Martin) hopefully keepers in the forward and defence lines. 3 mid pricers in Bonner, Jordon and Williams. 5 rookies in Reid, McKercher, Sanders, Sexton and Howes.

I have 6 players in that 400-500k bracket which is something I’ve never even considered doing. I’ve set myself up well for correction trades I believe. Can move mid pricers to the good ones and have picked Bonner and Jordon on the higher priced side so I can downgrade rather than finding cash to upgrade. Jordan also has an early price rise.

I can easily flip the 400k guys to the ones who prove to be the right picks. If I’ve missed a must have rookie I can downgrade a mid pricer and upgrade one of these guys to a bonafide premium.

Have picked Gibcus, Howes and Campbell and hoping I can start upgrade season a week early with these guys having an early price rise and their early bye being in round 6. All 3 had 70+ scores in round 0 so they should get off to a fast start with their cash generation.

Have picked Yeo as a DPP so I can grab a Pink/Coffield/Phillips type if they come out firing.

DEF:
4/1/3 structure. Think Houston has a great start with 7 of his first 10 at AO. Sheezel and Young have been locked in for at least a month. Yeo I’m hoping goes 100-105 and allows me to take a look at who the top liners are before the inevitable injury. Williams will score well if he stays fit. Howes, Gibcus and Reid the 3 rookies I like the most. Coffield may come in for Reid if Dale and Daniel are also named.

MID:
Libba is one I’ve been contemplating but I’ve decided I’ll do it. Good early fixture. Finished off last season well taking out the concussion game. Historically has a bad injury history but since Round 3 2020 he has only missed 3 games. 2 through concussion protocols and 1 was a rest. Green obviously has the early bye but willing to take it on. Flanders has been in and out but has cemented himself after having 50+% CBA’s. Martin I’m pretty bullish on finishing top 8-10 in defence. Have done some research on Bonner and I think he could easily go 80-85. Ideally Sinclair misses a round or two but even if he plays I’ll still pick him. Jordon with an early price rise the reassess and potentially flip. Really want Lyons if he seems to be in the best 22. McKercher, Sanders, Roberts, Wilson and Clark all locks.

RUCK:
Nothing special here. Gawndy with Livingstone. Gawn was locked in and all I needed from Grundy was to solo ruck which he did.

FWD:
Jackson will start hot without Darcy. Fingers crossed Reidy doesn’t play as I might have to reassess. To Steele via Flanders the most likely replacement. Heeney also should start hot. Who knows what happens when Parker, Adams and Mills return. Hopefully can hold at least 30% CBA’s but this is Horse, so who knows. Taking on Rankine. Averaged 83 last year and if given the same role I’d guess natural improvement and Adelaide’s improvement push that up to 90. With the increase in midfield time I think this rises his floor and has potential for spike games. Hoping Berry isn’t picked but it’s looking more and more likely that will happen. Only takes an injury to one of Dawson/Laird/Crouch/Berry and Rankine could see 40+% CBA’s. Fisher has been locked in since that preseason game he scored 130. Potential keeper at under 400k. Reid and Sexton pick themselves. Cadman is a placeholder until teams are released for that F8/M11 spot. Campbell with a nice start to his cash gen and should keep his spot for a few weeks after being a shining light in a poor team performance.
Fading both Daicos & Bont is gutsy 😮

I assume you are happy to run with Libba as your main captain choice early on?

Brave man taking Yeo, I just can’t trust him anymore lol, could be a masterstroke though 🤣

Great team. I'm pretty similar. I have Libba at the moment but only because I hate M2. If Green didn't have the bye, I'd just pick him, but ideally I can trade one of Heeney/Jacskson to Green in Round 4 or 5, depending on the Swans mids / Darcy status.

I love the Yeo pick. I've tried to get him in, but can't quite gather the 200k needed to get him, without dropping a premium.

A lot of Hustwaite and hardly any Lazzaro. Is there a specific reason anyone is avoiding the guy that is 2 years older and cheaper? Also, Lazzaro has the DPP
Thinking the same, of all the expensive rookies Hurstwaite the most shaky
I think Hustwaite's role is a lot stronger than Lazzaro's.

I am expecting Hustwaite to have around 50% CBA's while Day is out (probably another 4+ weeks) while Lazzaro may be 25-30%, even with Simpkin out (1 week, possibly 2)

That being said, Hustwaite could still be sub (possibility of Ward, Moore or Mackenzie getting more CBA's than I anticipate) or one of Phillips/Powell could be sub, giving Lazzaro a better role than I am expecting.

I am seeing Lazzaro as a forward, with occasional CBA's (20-25%) while Hustwaite I see as a pure midfielder, who should be 4th in CBA's for Hawks, at least until Day is back.

Always worry about these skinny rookies (no disrespect intended) and our expectations of hard contested footy from them while so skinny

Yeah same, though Heeney is likely to go into Flanders with Owens as a fallback. Opening with 3 round 5 byes at the moment

Strange that in a year with so much midprice value, I'm looking more and more like the most GnR I've been in 5 years.

Heeney probably into Flanders after the bye, when Adams and co look like returning. I can't go into round 5 with 3 premos missing and of the 3, Reg and Daics look like the best 2 keepers.

Could possibly split Martin/Fisher into a 200+k MP and bring up a rookie to another. Will give it a round or two to get the targeting right.

My philosophy this year is that out of the 8 best mids for 2024, only 4 or 5 of them will be from last year's top 8 and of those, 2 or 3 will be gettable much cheaper later without hurting me at all. I've spent the remaining loose change as wisely as I think I can on players who will hopefully make me profit. Think I've picked a good chance at entering (Butters), a returner (Touk) and a long shot/stepping stone in Steele.

Dunno which mids will get away from me or hold their value. SC Gold reckons the Bont is going to 780k. Here's to hoping SC Gold is as accurate as ever! :D

I’m still not even convinced Hustwaite is in the starting 22

Well, he’s not with Day in the team

We’ll find out tomorrow night* (well I guess Saturday if he’s sub) but I think he’s more likely to play midfield then MacDonald, Mackenzie, Ward or Moore. Definitely not saying he’s better than those players, just that with Day out, I think he’ll slide into that role for now.

If Bont gets that high then he'll be split into 2 premos

Pretty happy with how it's shaping up.

This year I decided I needed to structure my team around a core of 10 players:

Defence
  • A precociously talented 21-year-old Magpie at D1
  • A 28-year-old rebounding Tiger at D2
  • An injury-prone West Coast defender/midfielder at D4
  • A 23- or 24-year-old tall Hawks mature-age rookie at D8

Midfield
  • A Western Bulldogs midfield SC supremo at M1
  • A former Brisbane Lions Brownlow medallist at M4

Ruck
  • A slightly flaky Sydney Swans journeyman at R1
  • A big lumbering Dockers tap ruckman at R2

Forwards
  • A late-20s Swans forward-cum-midfielder at F1
  • A mid-20s North player with New Zealand heritage and links to WA trying his luck at a new club at F6

Here's what I came up with:

View attachment 69188

The only thing is, I think I might have missed the boat on Alwyn Davey as a forward rookie by about 12 months.
I thought I was playing 'guess who', then you outdid yourself with the image!
Cheers mate. Thanks for your input.

Yeah, I've dropped McKercher for Clark to free up funds, and moved Flanders to MID to start Sexton in FOR.

I think Naismith will have to go if Nank starts, so that'll end up my loop.
Will likely grab Cadman for the non starting F8.

It's probably too short term thinking of me to worry about a loop.
Might be better to just stick the captaincy on Naicos or Rozee and not worry about a stinker or injury to them.
A trade saved will be worth a lot more in the long term than a few potential points gained in Rd 1.
Please don't cut McKercher ( or H. Reid, M. Roberts, Sanders and Sexton). These 5 players everyone should have.
