Too early to lock in anything yet , plenty of things to be finalised

* BH , MR , MS , ST to finalise Squads
* Test Squad to be announced
* Replacement players to be announced
* England Test Squad to be announced
* West Indies v Bangladesh white ball Squads to be announced
* Rishad's availability due to BPL
* Check New Zealand's white ball Squad for the Sri Lanka series @ home
* Check Pakistan's white ball Squad for South Australia series
* England Lions Squad for the Australian tour

Thankfully no clash with the Abu Dhabi T10 series this time or the Australia A games playing havoc.

Just spend the next 47 days tossing up starting Short or working out how to bring him in for Round 2 or waiting until Round 4

First attempt with Short:

Obviously lots to play out yet but I'm just glad to have a proof of concept that starting Short is possible without giving too much away.
Was trying to figure out where you sacrificed compared to my side as we had a lot of very similar players. Was really just the bench.

If Bazley and Buckingham both start it does seem to be a lot more viable. But then it probably means no Thornton, who could be one of the better value options.

My next thought was no Sixers/heat stashed for round 3. Unless you’re opting for the cheaper scorchers and strikers, you’ll have no path to guys like Hardie and Overton without sacrificing at least one star.

Played around with similar and I don't really see a way it makes any logical sense, half the side would have to be sub 100K and the talent pool in that range isn't deep enough, probably 3 or 4 I trust to be good picks not the 7 or 8 you'd need to go with it.

Feeling pretty confident this is the structure I'll go with, couple of guys like Bethel, Sandhu, Steketee, McKenzie and the bench are placeholders for the moment until we know a bit more.

To start Matt Short or to not start Matt Short? For me I'm more than likely going to fade and try and bring him in round 2, very hard to justify 300k for a single game player that is most likely going to be the 7th bowler.

Will be interesting to see some different strategies with the Flex position, @7/11 had a very good point with picking cheap batters like a Brown or Rogers to try and luck out on a good score. Also makes it viable to start up to 3 renegades on each line without copping a donut in round 3 which before wouldn't of been possible unless you traded them out.

I have just had a look at the draw properly.

54 is the mathematical maximum possible DGR players that we can field over the season - assuming no unexpected injuries or player omitions. Over 9 rounds we will have 99 scoring players (9 rounds x 11 scoring players), so assuming we can maximise DGR players and they won't drop out of our best XI scoring, we will need to field at least 45 SGR player scores over the season.

This is an ideal sitaution, and I will be mightly impressed if someone manages to field 54 DGR players by season's end!

Interesting article on CricInfo title "O'Keefe urges Australia to prioritise spin prep for SL tour"

1st Test looks like starting either 26 or Jan 29.

CA wanting a 10 day preparation camp overseas beforehand

Just wait for official confirmation.

Thoughts on just using Maxwell round 2 to get to Short? And then back in round 3
I think it might be the best way if you can't start Matt Short.

Bring Maxwell back for their Round 3 DGR but it then limits you as to which BH/SS premiums (Bartlett , Hosein , Neser , Walter) you can get even using a Boost , 3 of them might not be affordable.

I guess you then need to work out how many BH/MS/SS you want for Round 3 and might need to start a few on the bench Round 1.

Going to be a huge juggling act trying to get all these premiums in , something has to give somewhere.

Not only Short though , guys like Overton (if bowling) , Lynn , Hardie (how much bowling does he do if they play 4 Quicks + Agar ?) , Behrendorff are all over $ 160k so how do we fit them in ?

Can't have everyone I guess

For those looking at starting Bethell , English media reporting that he will be part of the England Squad for the Test series v New Zealand.

Additional cover for when Cox replaces Smith (paternity leave)
England's Test Squad has been confirmed.

Bethell , Duckett & Pope the three included who have BBL contracts

Played 20 FC games , averages 25.44 , 7 wkts @ 96.14

Picked on potential I guess.

Smith not in the Squad at all.

To do it you need an ugly looking starting side, must start Inglis as reserve wk as assume Nielsen is not playing, trade 4 Gades which aren't very high value to Scorchers/Strikers (but keep Seinfert as he needs to be reserve keeper in rd3). I think more than ever the singles are going to define the season. 1000025606.jpg

This is seeming more and more like the play. Get a look at Short’s role in round 1 and see if he’s worth the cap space getting him for his double. If he isn’t bowling I’d say he’s a fade as $300k for a bat only is madness. But if the overs are there then he’s basically a must have.
Definitely think trades need to be planned out early.. if the plan is to go Maxwell->Short->Maxwell-Short over the early rounds that’s 1 trade per week locked. So gotta make sure the options with the remaining trades work in terms of both cash and numbers. Especially as you’ll need a little bank getting Maxwell to Short.

Does the flex position mean you can be more aggressive with boosts? We have a bit more cover depth now in case of a washed out game so the boost may not be as necessary later in the season.

Windies Squad BBL watch

Allen , Hope , Rutherford all named in the T20I series v Sri Lanka.

Hosein unavailable for personal reasons.

Hope (C) and Rutherford also included in the ODI Squad.

They also have a upcoming white ball series v England before the Bangladesh series that clashes with BBL.

On a side note 17 year old Jewel Andrew named in the ODI Squad after 3 List A games.

Made a half century on his CPL debut.

The new "next big thing" for West Indies cricket.
Hope (C) and Rutherford announced in the ODI for the series v England , haven't seen where the T20I Squad has been announced yet.
