Hey Rowsus, first time poster but long time reader. Really appreciate your work!

If you wouldn't mind helping me out with one of the last trades of the season. I've got $177,700 in the bank and 5 trades.

My team - http://supercoach.heraldsun.com.au/team/other_teams?tid=13957

My plan for this week was Ambrose to Parker and Cameron to Honeychurch to complete my team. This would leave me 3 trades, 1 for Suckling to Mitchell and 2 for injuries.

My issue is Montagna, since I brought him in (round 8) he has been less than terrible. I know he is a proven performer and all but I feel like it might be time to cut my losses. I would love nothing more than to rage trade him to Rockliff/Kennedy. It's a sideways trade when trades are crucial but I feel like holding onto him could cost me more than the value of a trade.

Side question - Is it worth downgrading Derickx for money now? He is bench cover but now that Pyke is back he will probably only be 40-50 points worth of cover. Maybe the $200K could be well spent to o***et the risk of a donut?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rowsus,

7 trades left and 380k, with 2 upgrades left (Gardiner and Shenton to DEF and MID premiums, moving Suckers and Higgins via MPP to the bench.)

Would I be better off trying to do these 2 upgrades in 2 trades and therefore get the likes of Stevie J and Enright (who I can loophole)?

Or just trade O'brien as well in a few weeks time, using an extra trade, but bringing in maybe Birch/Barlow or even Bartel/Mcveigh/Rocky/JPK?
Hi Footy,
given you have 7 trades, and only 2 upgrades I left, i'd definitely go for gold, and aim for Fyfe and McVeigh/Bartel. The extra points generated will be worth using the extra trade.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus, my final midfield upgrade is between: Dion Prestia v Matt Priddis v Rory Sloane v Kieren Jack v Nick Dal Santo
Hey Erich,
RAMP suggests that they will score the following totals for the remainder of the season:
Priddis 982
Jack K 960
Sloane 960
Prestia 958
Dal Santo 952
So as you can see, there really isn't a lot in it!
Priddis is expected to be the highest scorer of the SC finals, at 365, and Jack the lowest scorer at 298, if that is important to you.
I guess if dollars are important, you go Dal, who is actually expected to be the 2nd best performer during the SC finals.
Good luck :)

Just would like to say Thanks a heap for all your advice Rowsus.

I have ended up taking your advice and used it on most occasions and it has been gold!

I haven't got many trades left, but my team is set for a while now... I did what you said and got Fyfe and SMartin in and now I got cover on almost every line. Posted a pretty good score last week... and hit top spot in my league.

So thanks a lot Rowsus... Only one last trade to go... and I HOPE that I can bring in Harvey for SMartin in 4-5 weeks time in time for finals. Hoping the injury god will be kind to me this year.

Thanks again Rowsus... YOu and this site have been my savior this year.
Hi wT2k,
I'm glad it all (or most of it) is working out. Thanks for the feedback. :)

Hey Row, just wondering what your opinion of Harley Bennell is. I have 524k to bring in a premium midfielder and am looking at him or Dal Santo. My other option is to use 2 trades (one up one down) and get anyone I want (Priddis, Ward, JPK), although that will leave me with only 2 trades.
Cheers :)

EDIT: would you consider leaving Miles at M8 and instead trading Cotchin>Rocky?

Hi Rowsus,
This is my first post in this thread but I've been reading it since the pages were in single digits... now up to 120 pages!... been fantastic reading and I really appreciate all the hard work you've put in to answer everyone's questions.
My question is about my final upgrade in the MIDS. I am playing strictly for a league win.

Here is my team:
DEF Swallow, Simpson, Bartel, Birchall, Jaensch & Enright (Gardiner-Tippet)
MID GAZ, Pendles, Beams, Fyfe, Selwood, NDS, Cotchin & Shenton (O'Brien-Acres)
RUCK Sandi & Goldstein (Currie-King)
FWD Danger, Martin, Parker, Buddy, Rough & Pav (Ambrose-Spina)

I currently have 7 trades and 359k to work with.

I was planning to upgrade Acres to SJ but his poor form has me seriously reconsidering.
I could upgrade Shenton instead for any MID under 677k but I'd like to keep him as bench cover for MID/FWD
I'm thinking maybe I should trade Ambrose to Kersten to get more coin and then I could upgrade Acres to any MID.

So...
a) Acres to SJ... 6 trades and pretty much zero cash
b) Shenton to any MID under 677k... (probably Sloane or K.Jack)... 6 trades and little cash
c) Downgrade Ambrose to Kersten and upgrade Acres to any MID... 5 trades, if I get Sloane or K.Jack I'd have over 100k remaining... or should I go real premium in JPK/Libba/Rockliff and have no cash?

What do you think? Appreciate opinions from any posters.
Thanks Rowsus
Hi Ender,
thanks for the kind words.
Given your desire to League success, your pocket full of cash, and good number of trades, I think you should target whoever you think the highest scoring Mid is that you don't have. Even if it uses 2 trades to get them. It probably comes down to JPK, Libba, Rocky or Ward. I'd be a little wary of Libba. His last 3 scores against Melbourne have been: 171, 163 and 159 so he can be expected to go big this week, but.... he struggles a bit against the teams he plays in the last 4 weeks of the season. Not a great indicator for you hoped for finals wins. JPK last 2 games are against WB and Rich, and that is 2 teams that his average against them is a bit down compared to some other teams. Rocky finishes with Coll, Fre and Geel and unless Geel "switch-off" again, like they did last year, he might be a risk. All bar one of his monsters has come in wins. Ward finsihes Melb, Coll and WB. He hasn't posted a good score against WB, but has only played them 3 times. He also seems dependent on Mumford to add the cream to his SC score. If you think Mummy will go missing, I'd probably avoid Ward. All 4 have their problems and downfalls, just at the time you want/need them to fire. If I was forced to pick one, I'd go JPK in your position.
Don't worry about using your cash. It's best to get your starting 22 as strong as possible, then see what back-up/loopholing possiblilities you can put in place.
Good luck :)

Hi Rowan,

Posted this in round 15 trades but would really like your opinion thanks .

"Dane Swan...............................
Keep or trade out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,or if you don't have him yet trade in?????

I traded him in after 143 against Essendon, he was a bargain @ 550,600 surely he had returned to form now and was too cheap too ignore.

since then he has been consistent between 76 and 93 (avge 85.7) and his price is now 466,200 be 110.

What are all the other Swan owners doing?

Can you consider your team as "complete" with Swan at M7 or 8? "
Hi blue,
yes, you can consider your team complete, with Swan at M8. I consider my team complete, and I have Cotchin/Swan at M7/8.
I think each coach needs to asses his/her own position before considering a Swan trade. I don't have enough trades left to consider it (I have 4 left). Even with 7 or 8 trades left I would be looking to upgrade someone else, and use Swan as a loopholed M9 before I traded him out. I certainly wouldn't be Trading him in yet. If i had the Desire to trade him in as a potential M9 (the only position I'd consider him for), I think i'd get all my other ducks in a row before I got Swan. It also gives him that chance to get just that little bit cheaper too.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus,
Wouldn't mind seeing a trade table this week or just your thoughts on both HBennell or Greenwood if you have the time?
Considering them both as my very high risk/reward M8 over someone like Barlow, SJ or NDS.
Done.
Good luck :)

Rowsus,

Which ruck do you think will have the best finish to the year (via. your wonderful RAMP)?

I have Sandi and Lobbe and am contemplating a luxury sideways trade from Lobbe to Sauce / Goldy / Nic Nat.

Thanks in advance.

CC
Hi CC,
RAMP suggests that Goldy will be the highest scoring Ruck from here, just above Minson. Keep in mind, that RAMP is "expecting" some sort of correction in Mumford and Jacobs scores. Both those 2 are in super form, that's for sure. Taking expectation above form is hard to do sometimes. I'd probably choose between Sauce and Goldy, but if dolaars are important, maybe give NicNat a run.
Good luck :)

Hey Rowsus, would you recommend trading Griffen to Parker with one trade or Griffen to Fyfe by downgrading Ambrose? Have 7 trades left, do you think Parker can finish the year strongly? With the extra cash from Ambrose, I could upgrade under performers like Swan, Enright, Burgoyne
Hey dyii,
I think I like the Fyfe option better. He should outscore Parker comfortably, and it facilitates up grading a "problem". I think Parker will just continue on, averaging around the 100 mark for the rest of the season. Obviously with one or two good weeks, and one or two bad weeks in there along the way.
Good luck :)

Hey JJ, welcome aboard!
(rep points to the first to tell my why I called HNS JJ! :p)
Looking at your team, I think you need to concentrate on strengthening your cover, rather than rage trading Joey out.
At the moment you only have Langdon covering both Mid and Def lines, Derickx covering your Ruck and Ambrose covering your Fwd (with Cameron hopefully to return at some stage).
Firstly to Derickx. I think you'll need him for maybe 2 or 3 games in the coming weeks. If you are happy to eat those 50-60 point donuts, then cash him out. If not, then hang onto him. Certainly the near $200k you can get for him can/should produce more than the 150-180 points he'll bring to your team. The question then becomes, how many points will that trade save you, if you kept it and used it to fill another gap? Of course, we can't answer that, but given your cover is thin, I think I'd just hold Derickx. If not for the Ruck coverage, then just to try and get better use/coverage from that trade.
Cameron to Honeychurch doesn't look like a great trade right now. Firstly we need Honeychurch to show us something, secondly he might better served on your Mid bench, so you can utilise his DPP.
If you are set on ridding yourself of Montagna, have you considered taking Miles instead? It gives you $130k on the change over, lets you go Ambrose to Parker, and keeps Cameron for loopholing purposes, and coverage when he come back. If you do get Parker into your Fwd line, then I think you need a Spina/Honeychurch on your Mid line for coverage purposes. You'll have a "Premium" sitting on your Mid bench, and it would be good to loophole them with a FD if possible. That would use 3 of your 5 trades, and by the time you got your FD on your mid bench, you'd still have Money to upgrade Suckers to nearly anyone, and have a trade left. Your bench coverage would look something like:
Def: Langdon , Bews
Mid: Spina, Hunt
Ruck: Derickx, King
Fwd: Parker*, Cameron
*Parker of course goes into the 22 and Walker etc go to the bench, hopefully for loopholing.
The other option would appear to be, prepare for multiple tragedies now, and just go Acres to miles, shift Hunt back up to your Mid, loophole Miles/Montagna, and hope you can nearly straight swap Suckers and Mitchell 2 or 3 weeks after Mitchells return, leaving you 3 trades for back-up/injuries.
Good luck, whichever way you jump. :)

The only innocent player from the infamous "Chicago Black Sox".
Give the man a cigar! (and some Rep points!) :)

ps - The film "Eight Men Out" is worth viewing if you haven't seen it. :)
I haven't seen it, I'll definitely give it a look. Don't mind a good baseball related movie :)

hi rowsus

i was wondering if i can get your advice on my team and the trades that i am considering this week

My current team is

hibberd, mcveigh, bartel, swallow, hanely, langdon, cameron, aylett

ablett, pendels, beams, kennedy, fyfe, libba, selwood, obrien, beams, acres

jacobs and sandi

parker, martin, danger, pav, roughhead, shenton, impey and lennon

I have 248k in the bank

i am assuming langdon will be out which means i wont have cover and i was thinking of trading him out for either malceski or simpson. I would like to wait a week on simpson as his price will reduce signficantly this week however it will mean i wont play a full side.

If i trade in simpson this week and remove shenton i can have approx 250k in the bank for next week and then i can trade in robbie grey the following week for impey or trade in another rookie and get rocky in, which will leave me 8 trades plus one more upgrade to perform.

My goal is to win the league and i am currently sitting 1st.

Whats your opinion about my trade strategy? do you think there is better value other than simpson or malceski?

Hey bloke,
Bennell is an excitememnt machine, that's for sure. He will give you the chance at more WOW scores than Dal, but Dal will give you better scores week to week, and probably more points overall. Given your trade situation, I don't think you can afford to do a 2 trade upgrade here, or side swap Cotchin. I assume you are upgrading Shenton, not Miles. Looking at your team, you might even consider running Miles at M8, and strengthening your Def line instead. Maybe something along the line of Shenton out, Hunt up to re-establish your M/D DPP link, then Birchall/McVeigh in. It strengthens your Def line, and your Mid coverage. Most weeks you should be able to look at Miles' score and decide if you want it, or if you should shift a M/D up and take Taylor/Jaensch instead.
Good luck :)

Hi Adrenaline,
that's a tough one.
There are so many things to consider, including:
How far in front of 3rd on the ladder are you? (Is there a prize for minor Premier?)
Can you win the match-up, even with a Langdon/Hibberd donut?
Team selection this week will have a big bearing on what you should do. In general, the Mid line and Fwd line in your team need more work than your Def, though it is possible/probable the Def line might need to take priority this week, due to circumstances. If you only had 4 or 5 trades left (instead of the 10 you have), and you have an 8 point buffer to 3rd on the ladder, you might just be better off eating that Def donut.
Simpson would appear to be a case of waiting would be better. Birchall might represent value, if you need someone desperately this week.
If you let me know how your match-up looks this week (weak/strong opponent), and how far off the 3rd team is, when the teams are announced I am happy to have a further look at it for you.
Good luck :)
