Young Giant asks for trade to Victorian club

GREATER Western Sydney defender Sam Frost looks set to depart the club after requesting a trade back to Victoria.

The 21-year-old is believed to have informed the Giants of his desire to seek a return to a club in his home state where his family lives.

Frost, the younger brother of Collingwood backman Jack, played 16 games for the Giants this season, for a career tally of 21 over three seasons.

The former rookie managed to hold down a key defensive post for much of the season in the absence of injured Giants Phil Davis, Nick Haynes and Tim Mohr, but can also be used in attack.

Frost, who is out of contract, was drafted from TAC Cup side Sandringham Dragons, with his athleticism and height important attributes.

The Giants are also considered likely to lose key position player Kristian Jaksch, who has attracted the interest of Victorian clubs.

And the No.2 draft pick in 2012, midfielder Jono O'Rourke, is likely to make a decision in the next few days about his future.

GWS declined to comment when contacted by AFL.com.au on Thursday.

The Giants hold pick three in the NAB AFL Draft ahead of next month's trade and free agency period, and have also activated a compensation draft selection at the end of the first round (approximately pick No.20)

All those young KPD's suddenly available dilute Frawley's market value somewhat. You'd reckon he'd take the reported $500K, 5 year offer the Cats have tabled and run! Can't say i'm all too happy about it to be honest, I'd much prefer that Geelong targeted one of these boys.

What's the thinking in getting Frawley? He is a dud forward and decent but not superstar defender. Geelong must be planning on moving Taylor forward permanently, which given he is the no.1 chb is a big risk.

Smart Clubs can turn players around. Look at what Geelong did with Rivers. He was struggling at Melbourne, and you couldn't be confident he'd get a game in a top 8 team, and now he's doing a great job.

Sounds like something must have happened at training and he is gone for the year and in heat of the moment retired. Some injury must be screwing him up and he has had enough.

Just read an article, Yep, gone, replaced by Ben Lennon in the squad.

Hardwick said the 28-year-old's 2014 season had been disappointing "from an output point of view" after a poor preparation.

"He's had a horrible run with injury, he didn't have a preseason," the coach said.

Jackson's place in the squad to face the Power was taken by Ben Lennon, with the final 22 to be named later on Friday.

I reckon it's for a medium term lonergan replacement, but they'll look to switch up Frawley and Taylor in the CHF/CHB positions in the interim. I personally hate the idea of moving Taylor out of the back line and as you said, Frawley's a dud forward. Would much prefer to chase one of the younger GWS boys as most are quite versatile too and I think their development will fit in closer to Lonergan's career timeline. But what do I know? Haha!

Yeah saw that, if he is to come back his manger said it wouldn't be with Melbourne although he will have to be traded through Melbourne due to him still being contracted there. Possibly a move to Collingwood involving Lumumba.

RECYCLED forward Aaron Edwards has been shown the door as Richmond clears space on its list in preparation for the trade and draft period.

Fringe players Brad Helbig and Brett O’Hanlon have also been delisted.

Former Eagle and Kangaroo Edwards finishes his career on 94 games including 12 for the Tigers in the past two seasons. He became a regular late last season and played in the 2013 elimination final, but managed just three senior appearances this year.

Helbig and O’Hanlon struggled to break into the senior line-up. Helbig played 16 games in three seasons (none this year) and O’Hanlon nine games in two years (one this year).

Rookies Orren Stephenson, Ben Darrou, Todd Banfield and Cadeyn Williams have also been told they won’t be recontracted.
