Are you just making those teams to see if it can be done? Those teams don't actually look too bad on paper with such major restrictions.
Haha thanks Anfa18, yes it's good to throw things around a bit and see combinations not immediately thought of to refreshen one's outlook.
When I make these teams I'm learning player's prices, positions and who some lesser known first year players play for.
Mainly I like to do them to stretch the extremes of what can define a team, besides everyone's usual objectives of setting a serious side.
If I can share some laughs along the way that's great :)

So I have been playing with my structure and have now come up with 3 possible teams based on different structures and would love some assistance. Before I go through them just a little bit of information, I class all players above $400k as keepers and I will bold them in my teams, Mid pricers are classed as players below $400k with AFL experience and will be in italics in my teams and rookies are classed as below $250k with no previous AFL experience. Also the rookies are not set, and I have deliberately gone with some more expensive starting rookies to give myself the flexibility of going with them if they emerge as the best options.

Team 1 - The strong defence
Def: B. Smith, H. Shaw, H. Taylor, J. Newnes, S. Colquoun, J. Lever ( E. Vickers-Willis, D. McKenzie)
Mid: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, N. Fyfe, J Selwood, C. Petracca, A. Brayshaw, I. Heeney, B. Boekhorst (N. Freeman, T. Dumont, D. Cavka)
Ruc: N. Naitanui, M. Leuenberger (M. Cox)
Fwd: R. Grey, B. Deledio, H. Bennell, D. Swan, T. Bellchambers, J. Hogan (J. Laverde, J. Steele)
Cash Left: $4k

Team 2 - The strong midfield with good bye structure
Def: B. Smith, S. Hurn, H. Taylor, B. Waters, B. Whitecross, J. Lever (D. McKenzie, D. Viojo-Rainbow)
Mid: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, J Selwood, R. Sloane, S. Sidebottom, C. Petracca, I. Heeney, B. Boekhorst (A. Vandenberg, N. Freeman, D. Cavka)
Ruc: M. Kreuzer, M. Leuenberger (M. Cox)
Fwd: B. Deledio, J Bartel, H. Bennell, D Swan, T. Bellchambers, J. Hogan (J. Laverde, J. Steele)'
Cash Left: $600

Team 3 - Set and Forget rucks with strong DPP links
Def: H. Shaw, L. Hodge, H. Taylor, G Rohan, J Lever, N. Brown (M. Fuller, H. Goddard)
Mid: G Ablett, S. Pendlebury, N. Fyfe, J. Selwood, C. Petracca, A. Brayshaw, I. Heeney, B. Boekhorst (N. Freeman, T. Dumont, D. McKenzie)
Ruc: S. Jacobs, S. Mumford (M Cox)
Fwd: B. Deledio, H. Bennell, D Swan, C. Wingard, T Bellchambers, J. Hogan (J. Finlayson, J. Steele)
Cash Left: $0

Which way should I go?

Swap Boyd for Hogan and Grimley for Read. Hogan dominated the VFL as an underage player and is much cheaper than Boyd. Grimley is an expensive dual position link to your forward line who is unlikely to play and if he does by the slightest chance play you can't use him for a loophole. He did kick a lot of goals in the VFL and if you think he will be a regular than he is a good pick. But if you don't think he is best 21 at Hawthorn than you are better off putting in a cheaper link to the forward line.

Take some stones to roll with that side round 1.
Not your cookie cut team that's for sure.
Nothing wrong with going with your gut man and not following the crowd. If its the year of the mid pricers you've got the jump

Ok, so this is stage 1 as a supercoach coach, let's be honest, everyone has been here. It is the period when you believe that one must have numerous points of differences while taking enormous risks to achieve anything noteworthy. However, as history suggests, these actions are unnecessary, winners earn their 50 grand with precise decision making throughout the season.

Cheers mate i feel its easier to start these 5 than try to get them in later, and the likes of buddy, grey, smith ect in fwd and def are an easier upgrade target than any of these guys, being approx 100k cheaper thus needing rookies to moo less to upgrade the squad

Hasn't Alex Johnson already been ruled out for 2015 ---- my last check he is a long way off (sadly).

He may well have been but rookie priced players are just there to fill the gaps for now until I see some nab cup games they will stay as they are unless the coach comes out and says player x will play

@ Brett

I like your team, just think you are paying too much for Selwood, historically he has a lean patch
and you can pick him up for circa $520, then again, this could be the year I am wrong!

Yeah mate your right he does have a lean patch through the middle of the season but he starts off on fire generally so tgats my reasoning behind starting him

Some would say its a risky ruck combo but until we see how the new scoring system effects the lads why not go it.
Yeah it's risky but its only as risky as picking Nic Nat and Kreuser or luey like most I've seen so why not go someone cheaper again and they both have good ceilings too. Kreuzers 2013 was pretty impressive when I looked through the analysis on him in the ruck thread with some monster scores. As for luey I believe he is and will be no1 ruck. Generally rucks have one good year then not as good the next. They both coming off bad years inj wise so hopefully this year is both there years

Hi Brett,
Nice looking side! Needless to say, awesome midfield setup. Intrigued with the S.Fisher selection.....you think he can recapture his glory days this late in his career?
