Hey Rowsus, can you pinpoint what areas Cotchin needs to improve to increase his average over 110+??
Hey Alex_26,
I don't have a copy of the prospectus (they want around $60 to post it to Denmark), but just from watching his games, he needs to stop kicking short, and/or sideways so much. It's not a recipe for good SC scoring. Also, he seems to be getting more possessions behind the centre line these days, than he was in 2012. This leads to less score involvements, and less SC points. If he stop doing that, and regain an extra possession or two, he can be 110+ again. While he may have another 110+ season in him, I'm not of the opinion it will be a regular thing for him.

Hey Rowsus what u think about Shane Biggs? Had massive numbers in Sydney's twos just below titch in disposals. Do you know any more? Like possible position at the doggies and what do you expect from him this season? Thanks in advance
Hey Brett,
I'm always a bit wary of players posting big numbers in 2nd and 3rd tier competitions. Certainly I wouldn't be jumping on any Mid priced players with big NEAFL or SANFL etc numbers, unless there was something else to suggest they can step up. Rookie priced players are an exception, and Biggs is basically priced as high price Rookie. Having said all that, I must admit I'm no wiser than anyone else outside of the Bulldogs inner-circle, as to what Biggs may do this season, or where he may do it. Like any high priced Rookie, you'd want to see a really good lead in during the NAB, or you just forget him.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hi Rowsus,
I am interested to know what you think of four of the more popular midfield picks in the $500K-$550K range.
The four I have in mind are Wines, Crouch, A.Swallow and Griffin (assuming back is fine).
It feels like one of these will break 110+ this year, but it really is a crap-shoot on which one (in my mind at least).
Hi WHW,
I don't like Griffin at all. Reportedly still having back problems, and only the 1 110+ season by the age of (nearly) 29 doesn't inspire me there is another one coming. In his spike year he was the leading Midfielder for score involvements. Just one of the areas he needs to get back to be 110+ again. Well priced on potential scoring, but I'm not highly confident he'll make top 10.
Swallow has been there before, but like Griffin has only been there once. He's a year younger, has excuses for the last 2 seasons, and is $30k cheaper than Griffin. I think there is less risk to taking Swallow, as if he fails, he should at least hold or increase in value. He's currently sitting at somewhere between M4 and M6 in my various versions of my team.
Wines and Crouch are hard to split, and both appear to have upside. I think there is little downside in taking a punt on either of them as well. In the team that has Swallow at M6, Crouch is sitting at M5. I'm just a little worried about Wines' early draw.
I agree with your sentiment, it's a crapshoot, but one of the three could be 110+, and I think Crouch and Wines are the most likely.

U want us to organise to get one to you?
Surely we could get it there cheap
Thanks for the offer Brett,
to be honest I would probably only look at about 15-20% of it, so it's hard to justify the $100+ it would cost to get me one.

Not sure about the copyright implication but judicious scanning of a few pages could be an answer?

FYI Rowsus

The Digital version of the Prospectus is due to be released in the play store for android devices February 16th. Also the 2014 version is currently free so you could get that first try it out and determine if the 2015 version is worth the $$$

Someone did share a few pages of the 2013 copy with me, but not enough to infringe any copyright laws. :p

I wasn't aware of that mini, thanks for the heads up, I will investigate that further. :)

Hey rowsus , what are your thoughts on Crouch V Greene V Caddy? They all finished solidly at the end of the 2014 season, could it be an indication of a breakout season in 2015?
Hey steuby,
definitely finishing a season strongly can be one of the signs of a break out season coming. I rate Couch and Greene a fair distance in front of Caddy. Both Couch (injury) and Greene (temperament) have queries. I have leaning towards Crouch, as Griffin throws an unknown factor into Greene's equation.

The digital version in 2014 only cost about $12-14 from memory. Good value for all the high level information it provides. Rowsus may be able to access most of the data already, as suggested, check out the 2014 version which is now free. Will be in iTunes as an app as well on 16th.

Hi again Row. Thanks for your help thus far.

I'm interested to know who you think the alternatives are to Swan (besides Titch). I've got 530k and am really not sold on him - at the moment I've got Devon Smith and I'm also considering Roughy or Reiwoldt for the first few rounds with the view of trading him.
Hi again bloke,
I don't like Smith. He only scored well when the regular Mids were missing last season, and now he has Griffin there as well. There's not many Fwd's I like in that $450-$530k range, and the only one in my team right now is N Roo. Anyone contemplating N Roo should be thinking of him as a pinch hitter. Use his good early draw, and before his knees to start to hurt, make some cash and points, and bail out. I'd be more likely to start a J Martin (could he play Mid while Jaeger recuperates?), T Adams, or even Broomhead, before I started any of the other $450-$530k prospects. At least they give you upside, and loose change to maybe upgrade somewhere else.

Yeah J Martin has been in and out of my team. I like him this year

Hi Rowsus,

Jordan Lewis. Finished the year off on a tear.

Any reason he can't maintain something near that level this season and would be a massive POD as I'm yet to see him in a single team.

Cheers.
Definitely screams spike year, and comes from a Club with a recent record of Mids not going 110+ too often. I couldn't touch him, he looks way overpriced.

Hi rowsus question about the rucks.
I know there has already been a hitout to advantage
Percentages done but is there something about this that also
will tell me their hitouts to disadvantage and neutral hitouts
Aka Jacobs 30% hota/ 50% honeutral/ 20% hotda
Cheers mate thanks in advance
Unfortunately no. The lack of decent rucking stats really annoys me. You'd think we'd be able to get something better these days.

Hey Rowsus, I was wondering whether if anywhere on the site their is analysis of players coming into contract talks and how that impacts the season. A very important consideration RE Dangerfield.
Here in 2015 Value Premium Midfielders (page 2)
It's not an exact science, but it does show, that any sportsman at an elite level doesn't need much of a distraction to drop their output.

Hey mate, hard one for you. 4 premium mids or 5?
Really depends on what the rest of your team looks like. Are you running any mid-pricers in the MID (i.e.: Wells, Rich)? Or are you going a straight 4/0/7 or 5/0/6?

Also, and for me specifically, I would want to be able to better identify the rookie prospects (especially in the DEF line), as this will determine whether or not I need an extra premium in DEF, and consequently, one less in the MID.

At this stage, I'm looking at 4/0/7, but realistically, I can see that going back to 5/0/6.
Depends entirely on the available rookies, and as such is a pointless question until NAB Cup, if not R1 teams.
No doubt, Rookies decide this. I have 2 teams picked at the moment. One has 4-0-7, the other has 4-2-5.
Follow the simple selection rules.
1) Pick your two Captain picks.
2) Pick your Rucks, depending on strategy.
3) Fill the rest of your team with Rookies.
4) Have a preference order for those Rookies, and start upgrading the least preferred ones with Prems and/or whatever value picks you want with your left over cash.
When you run out of upgrade cash, there is your starting team!

Seems simple, doesn't it?! :p

Hey Rowsus i noticed Josh gibson most likely had a spike year this year in supercoach (92.5) was this due to him getting a new role because i think its a bit late in his career for him to break out, not sure if it was something with spangher or something but do you think that his average will continue with frawley joining the Hawks aswell now? or does Gibson still get the No.1 forward gig?
Thanks in advance
Hey Jordan,
he turns 31 soon, and it was his first 90+ season, and only his second 80+ season. Leave him alone!

How does the Official AFL Ratings consider Shane Edwards an elite mid-fwd and Dustin Martin only above average? I looked at their stats but can't figure out how it was possible.

Martin is definitely elite, while I consider Edwards only average.
Think I read somewhere that Martin had the most clanger kicks in 2014. Don't think either should be rated elite
Rating Player Club Position Trend Points
6 Brent Harvey North Melbourne Midfielder/Forward no-change 591.8
20 Steve Johnson Geelong Midfielder/Forward no-change 509.5
28 Dayne Zorko Brisbane Lions Midfielder/Forward no-change 482.5
36 Robbie Gray Port Adelaide Midfielder/Forward down 474.3
60 Shane Edwards Richmond Midfielder/Forward down 448.8
84 Matt White Port Adelaide Midfielder/Forward no-change 417.7
88 Dustin Martin Richmond Midfielder/Forward down 413.8
100 Danyle Pearce Fremantle Midfielder/Forward no-change 405.9
109 Cyril Rioli Hawthorn Midfielder/Forward down 395.3
141 David Zaharakis Essendon Midfielder/Forward up 366.2
144 Mitch Robinson Carlton Midfielder/Forward up 362.4
147 Lewis Jetta Sydney Swans Midfielder/Forward down 361.4

It is interesting however I do think Martin tends to be overrated by many people.
He is a very good kick but he still has a lot to work on his game to be really elite in my eyes.
I also think Shane Edwards is underrated so interesting in their own rating system he ranks higher overall.
No doubt Martin can have more impact with his kicking though and in Champion Data other system which SC is based on, Martin scores more points. Like cricket ratings system it does have a weighting system based on games played over certain amount of time. So it takes some time to climb ratings and also some time to fall. Rioli also suffers here a bit. Steve Johnson I suspect moves to pure midfield group when next updated but I cannot question Brent Harvey, Robbie Gray and Zorko as probably three best at this role.
The official ratings are based on a system that doesn't even closely resemble SC points. It will always throw up anomolies. I think the confusion people had with the new Rucking scoring, and what seemed like differences between the reported averages, and the Sc averages might be explained by it being some sort of rating, rather an actual SC averages that were being compared. I'm not 100% sure of that though.

AFL/CD Player Ratings are almost an order of magnitude different, with Ablett averaging 21 "points" or so.
