Same here Rowsus. Cripps looks very slow and indecisive.
He did, but if you isolate his 2nd half, he actually did what we wanted/needed him to do. It's just his 1st half was so dreadful. Also, they need to teach him where to run. His movements were largely wasted. I saw him running to what I thought was the wrong position quite a few times.

Hi Burly,
I apply a rule to a player I select, that I know I am going to, in all likelihood, trade out/upgrade. I want them to make at least $100k profit. Rookies more like $180-$200k, but Stepping Stones, I will say "wellllll..... ok" at $80k, but less, and I think you should have gone another route. That rule may be too harsh in this situation, given the special circumstances around the R/F coverage. If you were to apply it, TBC needs to average 80 to be a good pick. I have a few things putting me off him. Firstly, I am avoiding all Essendon players, just because of the uncertainty with them about preparation etc. Secondly, his scoring and injury history. Lastly, I believe it is in the realms of possibility, even if unlikely, that Lycett could score at a F6 level. I don't believe TBC can. TBC will/should naturally improve with experience. We all know Rucks can take 2 seasons longer than a normal player, to reach their potential. This could be TBC's year to do that, but with everything else, I don't want to bet on him doing it.
Your reason for taking him is quite legitimate, but I would have a plan with him. We know he may be unreliable, so I would really be setting a Rnd 6/7 target to get him down to your Fwd line, or to R3. It's all part of the risk/reward equation. TBC is your risk, a better M5 is your reward. There is nothing wrong with that move.
Hi Rowsus,
Hope you're getting enough sleep at this stressful time.
The other thing with TBC is if he breaks down in say round 2 you're left with nowhere to go at that price. You'll need to burn two trades to get in a viable ruck. And he is injury prone and has Giles and McKernan breathing down his neck.

Also re the new ruck rules, should we now be looking for rucks with a high marking average?
I looked at a small sample of stats for Goldstein, Maric, Lycett and NicNat from last year and Maric's one game so far. Lycett came out best for marks. Goldy was noticeably not a big marker. Repeat small sample though - max 3 games. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I didn't get to Mummy yet. Blicavs too is starting to look more attractive due to his unique multiple roles persona.
Appreciate any thoughts thereon

Hi Rowsus. My R2 dilemma continues and I am no closer to making a choice it seems! I have been interested in Lobbe as a POD but was worried about what affect Ryder may have on his scoring potential. There is an article in today's Adelaide Advertiser where the coaching director states "I'd imagine Paddy will spend more time forward than Matthew Lobbe" and that "He won't just be a ruckman who goes to the bench......He'll definitely be a ruckman who goes forward and spends his time there - he'll certainly spend more time forward than he's ever done in his career".

Do you have any thoughts on how this may impact him. Obviously it can only be a positive that he will rest forward rather than on the bench.

Angus Brayshaw named today after playing 0 NAB games... Does this make him a lock? Like Lewis Taylor last year

Hi Rowsus,

Thank you for your help thus far, hopefully my last question.

Which do you think is the better option:

Neale, Higgins, Bellchambers
vs
Selwood, Newnes, Lonie (means I would have to play Hogan on-field)

If I go with the second option, I am worried that my team is too cookie cutter and my forward line would be too weak. Thoughts?

Thanks again

I personally like the first option.

Hi B4C,
I think you're absolutely on the right track. If you are not sure if your selected Ruck is going to get a good number of HOtA, you want him to be getting involved in the game in other areas. Obviously if they are taking a lot of marks, that is a great indicator.

Hi Bobbie,
it pretty much just reads like Ryder will play the same role he did at Essendon a few years ago, when they had a couple of other Rucks. Ryder scored best when he played more Ruck. As to Lobbe, it is robbing Peter and paying Paul. I think Lobbe has some improvement game wise in him, but SC wise, that might get eaten by Ryder's affect, and the new Ruck rules.

Hey mate,

Don't usually ask for any advice but what option do you like of the following...

Rockliff & Griffen

or

Ward & Sloane

Currently going with Rocky & Griffen but pretty hard choice.

Thanks In advance.

I believe so, changed my team to get him in :)
Too late for anybody, but I have put him in too! I had to replace Young, who was emergency this week, so it wasn't a big re-shuffle to get him.
It also worked for Shiel from memory. No NAB Cup games, but was a great Rookie pick from Rnd 1.

Hey LITS,
Rocky and Griffen is definitely "sexier". Ward and Sloane are more bankable, and less likely to cough up 90's, but the other two are way more likely to score a 130+. Go the sexy option, but have an exit plan with Griffen I reckon.

Thanks mate, That's the way I was leaning... Much higher ceiling with Rocky & Griffen. Ward & Sloane probably more safe.

Yep an exit plan on Griff is a good idea and planned with that option.

Played well today and got a solid score. Should keep getting games as the intensity he brings around the ball and how he tackles a lot is something Melbourne need to keep in their team. Happy replacing Jed Anderson with Brayshaw so far

Not a lot in it, as they are 4 decent players. I'm going to say Selwood/MJ. Mainly because I expect MJ to score more points (but average slightly less), than Shaw, and Selwood to outscore and out average Dangerfield.

Hey Slammer,
I too have both Ablett and Rocky. I already have Pendles, and he does look the obvious choice for you.
I'm going Rocky to vandenBerg, as I think I'll need both trades next week, and even if vdB stinks it up with a 40, he'll have a pretty decent negative B/E. I then just decide if I "fix" Miller or Oxley this week, or sit on my cash, until I assess after Rnd 2.

Hi Rowsus,

I thought I was a genius including N Haynes in my backline. At QTR time he was the highest scoring Giant with a few intercept marks etc. Then did bugger all after that ending on 67.
Anyway I too have Rocky and was thinking to trade him and A Saad for R Gray and Garlett/Vandenberg/Heeney/Newton?

Thoughts appreciated Rowsus

Rowsus, hope your round 1 has so far been ok.

I noticed that you have Lycett in your fwd line (like me) - considering the now seemingly apparent changes in the ruck scoring, is he still an efficient/useful addition to our teams? (Bont is not far away from him in price and looks like increasing in value very quickly comparatively!)

Cheers in advance. :)
