Rod Owen. Now there is a name of an interesting character...
Did you ever meet him Oz?
I know his oldest brother very well.
In todays system he could have been a really good player, but back then, he ended up at the worst Club he could have. St Kilda was a real "party" Club in the early 80's, and Rod might have thrived a bit better in a stricter atmosphere.

Nah, never meet him Rowan. Just heard a few stories about him. I do remember him wearing number 7 for Saints from memory and having a very interesting duel one day on my favourite Carlton player ever.

You are one lucky fellow Rowan to spend a night on the **** with the great man Plugger.
I suspect he was a man of few words but boy could he play.

Edit: Was just looking up Rod Owen playing record. Kicked 8 goals in a game once. Even played for your Dees but do not remember that. Also ended up at Brisbane.

A recent picture of him at a St.Kilda function late last year.

Lazar Vidovic, Rod Owen and Mick Dwyer

The St Kilda former player annual reunion at Trevor Barker Beach Oval last Friday was a roaring success, according to St Kilda Football Club historian Russell Holmesby.

ROD Owen summed it up accurately when he described his fellow taxi passengers on the way to the St Kilda Past Players reunion.

“I reckon you would get enough stories for a book out of our cab!” said Owen with a trademark grin as he explained that he shared the cab with Ricky Nixon and Lazar Vidovic.

Any Saints fan with a knowledge of the trio would be aware that they had been involved in amazing life journeys which even spilled over to news headlines at times, but on this balmy Friday night in November they were at “home” among kindred spirits at the yearly past players get together.

You were close. He wore 27 at St kilda, but he did wear number 7 at Melbourne in his first season there, then swapped to number 5.
I can only imagine the stories you heard, and they were probably all true, knowing Rod.
Plugger was pretty quiet, but you didn't have to drag words out of him too much.

I haven't laid eyes on Rod for about 20 years. Good to see him again. Thanks Oz. :)

Round 10 teams thread is listed as a closed thread... I'm guessing this is a mistake?
Cheers mate not sure what happened there. It may or may not have been the beers and two bottles of wine I had with dinner last night :p

Should be open now

I was going over Leigh Montagna's SuperCoach history and I noticed he scored 140 (!!!!) in the 2010 GF replay - even though he only scored 48 AF points and the Saints lost by 56 points. He recorded 13 touches (10 kicks, 3 handballs), 1 mark, 2 tackles, 3 I50's and 1 behind.
Clearly, match situation is out of the equation when Collingwood won so comprehensively. How is this even possible??? Unless it's an error...

Interesting stat - The 7 teams Collingwood have beaten this season currently make up the bottom 7 on the ladder.

Juddy retires. Well done champ.
Saw great players like Greg Wells, David Rhys-Jones and Greg Williams do deals to get traded to our club and achieved the dream of premiership success with us.
Sadly for you, were not able to be a premiership player in our history but you gave your all in darkest period of history for our club and for that appreciate your efforts and example set to younger players.
You will be missed from the game.
The baton is handed over to younger types like Patrick Cripps to continue the campaign forward.

I echo your call MMM and cherish the memory of being at the G with my sons watching him tear Richmond apart in the elimination final among many other memories.

That second half broke my heart. The only saving grace was that C Judd 3 votes turned back the clock. I know he played some rippers for Carlton, and a Brownlow for 2 different clubs doesn't come often (Stewart, Diesel and Judd that I can recall), but gee he was awesome with the WCE, especially the 06 finals series

Edit - quick research showed Peter Moore did it as well, but I'd take Juddy over him. Just wish he played for my club - that's the greatest level of respect I can give

Judd's best game for Carlton, what do you reckon?

For mine it was the game at SCG about 3 or 4 seasons ago where every other player on ground from both sides seem to struggle but he just excelled winning contested ball after contested ball. Simply in awe of him that night. For West Coast cannot say his best game as did not see enough but a game at Gabba was really special earlier in his career when he relied more on his explosive pace than his contested beast work he did when injuries slowed him down. He had to learn to become more of a contested beast at Carlton compared to his days at West Coast his outside work was just awesome too. Love the 2 different style of player he excelled at being.
Still remember a game against us in night series final where he just blew me away with one single bit of play. I had to go rewind it back on video was recording of it just to watch how good it was. Can name on one hand the number of players I watched that could blow me away for sheer elite talent and he was one of them. Past his very best a number of years back but still a top player to the end. Best full career I seen in the league since the likes of Vossy and Jonathan Brown ended. What a champion of the game.
