Possibly from the 100k he will pocket from downgrading Mills to Papley initially?
Mills never loses that $100k, and you get to "realise" it when you trade him out. You can't add that into dollars you are better off. It's just dollars that are located somewhere else. Even if you could count that $100k, which you really can't, where is the other $150k?!
Isn't that the sort of accounting that got Exon in trouble?

Rowsus,

What is the collective noun for a group of Supercoach Players?

Panel of Experts
Bevy of Alcoholics
Diffidence of Introverts
Number of Mathematicians
Argumentation of Historians
Brood of Turkeys
Faculty of Academics
Pace of Donkeys
Ponder of Philosophers
Sequitur of Logicians

???
An arsenal of guns?
or if they are from this site
A band of Jays
If they all have too many Sydney players
A bank of Swans
Or if they have too many Adelaide players
A hover of Crows - (not murder of crows, that's just what we want to do to them!)
If they are good players, they might be
A wealth of information.

Congratulations on your great start! :)
You started without Libba for considered reasons, and while it is really hard to ignore that one game, it is still just that, one game. In exceptional circumstances. As for downgrading Pendles, I wouldn't do it if you think there is even a chance you'd want to get him back in again later. Seeing as you started him, it would seem that you might want him later. We that didn't take Libba knew he'd post some good scores at some stage, we were just hoping it wouldn't be Round 1. JJ too, is "just one game". He is an unknown factor, when the pressure is applied. Will he wilt, and become a mid 80's trap player? We just don't know. I'd stick with your plan for now, and hold your trades.
Good luck.
Thank you for the reply last week mate!
I didn't trade at all last week, poor round for me with my backline but that stuff happens. hope your SC team is travelling well mate.

not asking for help this week, weighing up trading to be honest at all! Don't feel good about rocky. If i am trading out rocky, just not sure if i should go papley, libba, parker or JJ. Or gresham for papley and hold rocky. sliding doors this week!!!

This thread is great, i enjoy just reading it all!

I suggest you seek help and advice from your bank manager. It might come down to re-financing your home loan, just to get through the night. Start with $300, and I'm sure you can find an atm, for that light night souvlaki on the way home.
As to your trades, if you are willing and able to put up with pain and inconvenience in Rounds 14 to 19, then you will have two or three trades left for the finals. History says you are unable to to put up with either of those things, so no, no trades for the Muppets in the finals...... again!

Yes, I remember. You drank so responsibly last time, you drunk dialled me at 2.30am!!!
Thanks mate, i love the idea of the souvlaki but not the running out of trades :( oh well it is what it is i guess.
I will pop into the bank tomorrow and see what i can get sorted :p

Hi Juzzo,
if you've got all the other good Rookies, I'd let Papley go. Dunkley might take 5 weeks longer, to make $50k less than Papley, but is it worth burning a trade to get that perceived improvement? Probably not.
Thanks mate, enjoy your time in Oz.

Hey Rowsus, I'm thinking of doing something a little bit risky... so many coaches have the rookie/barlow/rockliff dilemma and the same scenarios seem to be coming up

Im thinking a bit differently... Rocky out for Waite and Dunkley (if not named) out for Parish.

Reason: Waite is obviously not going to keep up this scoring, however he has melbourne this week, Essendon in a few weeks time and I've liked that he is laying some tackles- not all his scoring is dependent on goals.
The plan with him would be to trade him OUT again when his BE is too high to get a full fledged MID premo

Is it a waste? other alt would be get Robbie Gray in.
But i remember a previous winner doing something similar with Cloke when he was firing early in season?
Thanks in advance

Hey Rowsus, Not sure its fair asking for advice as I'm playing you in the Old Farts league - LOL what an accurate description (speaking personally of course ) - I might have to buy you a beer :D.

If I trade out Rocky am I better off getting Hall in or replacing him with someone like Titch? I feel Hall is the better value but one of my fwds will be out of position for a while. I'm also planning swapping Gresham for Papley.

Yes this was based on the $100k trade-down difference.

Call me Daniel Plainview, but the way I see it, that is $100k "cash back" PLUS the 40-50k cash generation differential.

Interesting thought, but as useless as Melbourne are there is no way Dunn is going to let Waite off the chain this week like we did Daniher last week. He is a much better one on one contested player. Waite may still kick a few, but hopefully won't go massive.

I like the Gray selection a lot.

Thought i would just point out that DimmaWitts 2013 winner started with Cloke and then traded him out at max price, what you are suggesting is 2 trades for a 100-150k return, imho not worth it at all.
(Sorry for the interruption)

Hey Rowsus, great advice here! I've been reading this thread for the last hour or so, time flies by when you're having fun!

I'm thinking of going a bit left-field here and trading Rocky to Blicavs. I was really considering some mids around the price range of Rocky such as Titch or Ward but I'm not convinced on which mids will finish in the top 10 just yet. Whereas Blicavs should almost certainly be a top 4 ruck. My thinking is that I bring him in for Rocky, and then swing him into R2 in a few weeks, and then bringing in a premo mid who's shown that they can perform consistently and might finish in the top 10.

I know this looks like a bit of a risky tactic but I think it's one that could put me ahead potentially (assuming Blicavs keeps up some decent scoring and averages at last 105-110+ for the year). He hasn't been relying on his HOs much (9 HOs in rd 1 and 5 HOs in rd 2) so it shows that he's scoring most of his points as a midfielder, and who wouldn't love a midfielder as their R2 right?

Thought I'll chime in here from another perspective.

Yes, you pocket $100k from going Mills to Papley right now- but you need to look at it another way.

Consider this:

Scenario A) You kept Mills. Let's assume he gets to $350k. You have $350k to play with when upgrading to a premium.

Scenario B) You traded Mills to Pap. You get $100k in the bank. Pap then reaches $300k, and you still have that $100k- meaning you effectively have $400k to upgrade with.

So you actually only "make" $50k from doing it- because Mills will reach a higher price, making an upgrade easier.

I hope this made sense.

The problem with most of this kind of thinking is that you assume that Mills will score higher than Papley, while the reality is that Papley is outscoring Mills by 30/35 points. If they both score 70 for the next few round, by round 10 they will both be around the $330k

GoGeta nailed what was going to be my main point. Dimma started with Cloke, and actually no plan to trade him out. Circumstances presented themselves, where he could go Cloke to SJ AND pocket some cash, while Cloke was on a big B/E. It was the perfect storm, not planned for, and used only the one trade. You are hoping to replicate this, but are using 2 trades, and are hoping the storm will come along. The other problem is, you really need Waite to play nearly fault free for it to work. If he scores 120 for each of the next 5 Rounds, his price only rises $128k to $563k. If he throws a 70 in there somewhere, that drops to a $88k rise, and $523k. It really depends on too much going right, and commits 2 trades in the hope that everything falls into place. Way too risky. The upside just isn't great enough, compared to the downside, to commit 2 trades to this venture.

Hey Bones,
if memory serves me correctly, I might owe you a beer or two. Hall and Titchell are two players I really like, but in your circumstances, I would go Hall. Both are chances to be top 6 on their line, but Hall would appear to be more likely to do this than Titchell. Titchell's B/E is 75, and Hall's is 1, so Hall's price is going to move faster, and lastly, Hall has the added comfort and versatility of being currently $135k cheaper than Titchell, and that is something that won't happen again this season (imo).
Good luck :)

Hey a_gups, welcome to the site. I'm glad you're enjoying it! :)
I think a lot of this depends on two things. Who you're current R2 is, that will eventually make way for Blicavs, and whether Blicavs can maintain this current role, and not get called on to play tall Def roles. If you are confident he can stay in that 105-110 bracket, there is no reason it can't work. This would appear to be the biggest risk in your plan, but if you are confident, then I say go ahead and do it.
Good luck :)

You might have missed the opening posts, where figures of 70/game for Mills, and 60 or 70 for Papley were floated. The conversation was based around these figures. We weren't assuming anything as such, just basing the values in the discussion, on those figures that had been put up.

Yeah i think he could avg around that 105 mark, with potential for more possibly. I like the fact he's so versatile i think and doesn't just earn his points in one way.

My current ruck setup is Gawn and Zac Smith. I'll obviously be trading Smith out in a couple of weeks, my initial team setup meant I had to roll the dice with a mediocre R2, but it shouldn't matter much with Blicavs replacing him soon.

Do you think Titch could realistically finish in the top 8-10 mids this year? Without looking at any stats, he'd have to average a touch under 120 at worst I imagine. I think I'd love to bring him in eventually but I would like to see how he goes against some decent competition first. Swans have had two pretty easy wins where most of their players have dominated.
