Cheers for the response - I'd have the numbers a little different to you though!
I'd pick Kelly instead of Ablett, who I'd put down for an average of 115 (instead of the 120 you have listed). And wouldn't ya be more likely to use Ablett's captaincy around 6-8 times instead of 4? (side note - wouldn't the captaincy scores I use for him also work out to a higher average than the 135 I have projected for him considering it would exclude scores that are presumably less than 135? ie the captain difference could be 140-120=20 instead of 135-120=15)
So I'd have the equation more like 8(135-115) + 6(20)=280 points better off.
And that's just off 8 games! There's a good chance he'll last beyond that.
I must admit, if you are that confident that the figures will be so good, it's not something that should even be up for discussion, you should just take him!
I think you are being a bit optimistic though.
You think you'd take Ablett as Captain 6-8 times in 8 games!
First, even if he averages 135 like your scenario says, he'd likely have a couple of 110 type scores in there.
Second, Geelong's "game number" for the first 8 Rounds is: 8, 9, 9, 9, 4, 2, 1, 9
That means you only get to VC Gaz 3 times in those first 8 Rounds. That stops you from "excluding" his low scores too often, and wearing the good with the bad.
What will you do if your VC scores 130?
I think you are looking at it with rose colored glasses a bit, but if you have the difference at 280, then have at it, and good luck to you!
