Hi Row,

My ruck set up is: Kruze, Gawn, Olango.

Any merrit in grabbing say English (assuming not playing) for Olango and Cox for Lobb before lockout this round.

Cox will be cover for Kruze. Or just trade out Kruze?

Or bring in Lycett for Olango.

I went through this in my head pre season and decided if a ruck goes down I will simply use a trade.

Thanks mate.

Hello Rowsus, looking for advice on my team.

Currently I have McLean in my forward line and I'm starting to get cold feet. I'm considering starting with Robbie Gray who is obviously suspended for round one.

It will force me to field a second rookie in the forward line for round one.
It will save me a trade but there will obviously be a loss of points in starting a rookie over a premium.

So the questions are: is it worthwhile? Or do I try to pick Gray up later in the year? Will the loss of points in round one be o***et by the trade saved?

Morning Row,

Just wondering - did you end up in the 'pick Danger and take the hit this week' camp or the 'not pick Danger and find a way to get him in later' camp?

If you were in the latter, what are you plans to get him in?

Hey Row,

Once again thanks for all the effort on providing great responses in this thread, very much appreciated!

My final question before team is set:

Do you have any stats on players avergaes + age. Specifically, when older players experience a drop-off, what is the likelihood that they recapture their best form? (or close to it).

Referring to David Mundy and Kieren Jack.

Here is Mundy's averages for the past 5 years:

2013: 103.7
2014: 102
2015: 113.2
2016: 93.3
2017: 89.4

At the age of 32 (33 in June) is it possible he can get back near that 100 mark, or does history suggest the decline is permanent?

Cheers

If Kreuzer is out for longer, and you are going to trade him anyway, you may as well just wait.
If it sounds like Kreuzer can be held, I think you'd be crazy not do the first option, as GFB said, taking (a free) insurance policy, after the accident happened ...... GOLD!

Hello 1%'s.
if you are pretty sure you'll end up with Gray anyway, and you're unsure of McLean, you may as well do it now.
Also, if you think Gray + 1 Rookie score will out score McLean, you may as well do it now.
It possibly allows you to loophole your FWD bench this week, which might be worth 20-30 points towards the difference anyway.

Morning t.t,
I never intended to start Danger, so I am disappointed with the developments, that have seen his %'s drop.
My team is pretty unique, and I'm confident the opportunity to get Danger will present itself, without throwing out the baby with the bath water.

I thought your team might be a little more unique :p
I had him in until he was a confirmed out and then went to Dusty with the thought that with the money saved and the fact that he's priced quite high, there would be a chance to get him in later (as long as there are some funds). Having Dusty as VC was also handy.

Just need to plan carefully I guess.

Perfect! That gives me the confidence to go for it, regarding Gray. I do think he's going to be one of the top forwards this year. Now to try and nail down the rookie selections.

Thanks for the quick response Rowsus, all the best with your own team this year!

Hi row

Hopefully my last question before the preseason research is completed. I am not sure who to pick in my side out of Lloyd savage McLean or Walters. I feel they all present risks. I read your comments regarding savage and his in my team atm but I’m not confident. Where do you see all the 4 players averaging and who would you start?

Hi ad,
Lloyd seems to have his role affected by who is in the team along side him. McLean will probably have his role affected by Bevo's rotation policy. Walters is Walters. He will score big some games, but not often enough to make the end of season list, imo. Savage seems to be the best chance to have an improved role over the season.
If I was forced to take one of those four, I'd take Savage.

Hi Rowsus,

Best of luck for the season!

Thought I'd get in early this year to get your thoughts re J. Kelly v Parker. Kelly seems the obvious choice - better bye round, easier draw to start the season and likely higher scoring potential however I believe Parker also has good potential and he gives me enough cash to trade him (if necessary) to Danger (yes I'm holding a warchest!) in a few weeks. Lets me assess the scoring of Parker/Danger and plan the timing of a Parker/Danger trade or come up with something else if Parker is doing well. Also leaves me plenty of cash to improve my team elsewhere if I decide to delay the Danger trade. Possibly upgrade a poor rookie to someone like an Armitage type, or Christensen to a premium forward (once we have a better idea who's the best choice - Heeney, Greene, Menegola - could even be Petracca!).

Have done a rough analysis and figure that getting Parker over Kelly will cost me about 75 points (Kelly @120, Parker @105) over 5 rounds (less if Dangerfield trade completed earlier), but seems to give me a lot more flexibility and potential opportunities to more than make up these lost points across my team (if I use the cash to upgrade elsewhere than on an early Danger trade), not to mention that Parker could turn out to average 110+ and stay in my team. Parker (7% ownership) much much more of a POD than Kelly (25%) too, if he does finish up staying in my team.

I definitely want Kelly (and Danger) in my team at some stage this year, so question my sanity in not starting with Kelly (given the likely lost of points and the trade it will cost me later) but wondering if going Parker early provides me with more options and has more potential long term benefit for my team?

If I go with Kelly over Parker however, I'm not sure I'll have enough cash to swing a direct Danger trade in a few weeks time nor do I know who I would potentially use to make the Danger trade.

Anything you might be able to suggest would be greatly appreciated!

Hi FFL,
good luck to you too.
I rate Parker as a pick this season, and Kelly too. The difference is, Kelly is priced to his potential, and Parker has the potential to go 10/game higher than last season. Even though my view might be biased, as I have Parker in my team, Parker + cash seems like a much better avenue to Danger, than taking Kelly, and wondering what you do, if Danger bursts from the blocks.

That's brilliant thanks Rowsus and thanks also for the incredibly quick reply!!
