Jonathan Patton intrigues me

89 games / 130 goals

maybe it's the modern game but I would have assumed he would have averaged at least 2 goals per game

(how much are these key forwards getting paid to actually do what ?)

2012 - 7 games/4 goals
2013 - 3 games/5 goals
2014 - 19 games/25 goals
2015 - 3 games/3 goals
2016 - 23 games/38 goals
2017 - 22 games/45 goals
2018 - 12 games/10 goals
2019 - 0 games

In 24 of his games he has been goalless

8 times he has kicked more than 3 goals in a game

Could JJK be a good stepping stone and wind back the clock for first 6 games or so and avg big thoughts .
I had also had this thought float through my mind but saw this yesterday...
JK playing down his pre-season but it's great too see him out their for the full pre-season so far. Certainly a lot better than in previous years where he's come into each season under a cloud and with limited track work.

As he said he's old now, but he has looked good from what I've seen and is one worth keeping in consideration as a stepping stone. 5 of our first 8 games are at Optus Stadium too so the opportunity is there for a fast start to the season for him.

Ideally if you picked him you would want one of those 150-180 scores he has pulled out in the past... In the first few rounds to kick his cash generation along quickly and make the pick worthwhile. Could give you a nice jump on pack if he had one of those.

Thoughts on Connor Rozee? Same price bracket as Wingard and from pre-season reports has been an absolute stand out for a second year player, could be an interesting POD on the forward line.
Will be interesting how many CBAs he attends and his midfield minutes.

Awkwardly priced at $422k with a 77 average. I don't expect him to get huge minutes through the middle, just a few rotations and predominantly stay forward.

I have included him in one of my teams, he's near the top of players I'm considering, but at this stage I think he'll probably miss out. Reasonable chance of getting his average to 85-90, which you would have to say is not quite enough, but will be watching him this pre-season for sure to see if he could get that little bit extra.

The one thing that bugs me with Whitfield is his price and his historical numbers, compared to others at the same price.

Whitfield has missed 16 games the last 4 seasons and averaged 110+ once with that 110 possibly due to increased opportunity with injuries to his teammates.

Oliver has missed 9 games the last 4 seasons and averaged 110+ in 3 years. Note: the 9 missed games and missed average were in his first year.

Treloar has missed 10 games the last 4 seasons and averaged 110+ 3 times.

Now I know it’s not comparing apples to apples and is somewhat rookie reliant but it’s difficult for me to justify picking Whitfield over the other 2, even if he’s every chance to be a top 3 fwd on averages. If I was confident he’d go 110 again, it would make the decision a little easier but with the uncertainty (in my eyes) of his ability to back up, he’s my cash generator if needed.
I havent even considered not starting him until now. A lot to think about...

Jack Steven watch

- Had a calf niggle but is now back in full training
- Won’t play the first Marsh series game but is expected to play the second and be named in the round 1 team
- Club sees him as an inside mid who can also play as a half forward

All of the above is from Chris Scott.

"He had a little bit of a calf niggle, but he's a different athlete to the one that played pretty well for St Kilda towards the end of last season. We're pretty confident that that's been a good move for us,” Scott said.
What does this mean?
