In defence you’ve listed enough names without even Hill or Greaves to push Roberton right up to D2 potentially. It feels to me like in previous years that’s where the rookies are again. I see that as a way to avoid too many expensive first year mid rookies who in my experience tend to not score to the level to justify the extra spend with a few exceptions like Walsh.

Say if Greaves is named he could score as well as Serong at $60k less especially if you aren’t even running him on field and you could look at Acres/Steven/Wingard in your mids.

Hopefully Marsh 2 makes this clearer and we can optimise that rookie spend.

I also have this thought that Pickett is not going to score as well as we think and the GF was one out of the box but who knows.
I think I’ll be happy to get 3 basement def rookies named in R1. None of Williamson, Greaves, Watson, Brander or Gould seem to be a “lock” for R1 - all competing with others for spots, although new Hardwick injury may now help Greaves (but Jiath may take the spot as well). Creates some risk even if they get named for R1.

Serong/Green could have better scoring potential as well. I feel Green has JS as well.

I just don’t think it’s the year to go thin in defence but let’s see what happens in Marsh 2

Without trying to continunally pick at your points but for the sake of the discussion - on Green and his JS it's worth noting the two recent similar comparisons at GWS. Taranto 2016 12 games at 61.4 and Hopper 2015 8 games at 68.8. Mainly looking at the games played rather than the scoring although both are bulls and neither could crack 70 in their rookie year. Now they are set parts of their midfield but it's taken 2-3 years.

Green could be an exception but I worry he is a premium priced first year player in arguably one of the strongest teams in the comp, particularly the midfield. I'd be way more comfortable if he played for the Suns.

On Serong, I have found only 6 premium (over say $140K) priced rookies that have averaged over 70 in their first year out of the last 4 years - Walsh, Smith, Mills, Rozee, Parish and McGrath. My sample size was 48 being the top 12 draft picks 2015-2018. So he could do it, but he might not and if he is on your bench you must be a little unsure as well.

Fully expect Greaves to play rd1 now. CJ is a fair bit off being AFL ready imo (despite being a fan fav).

No Taranto or Ward in possibly the first month is the thing making me feel like green has good JS. Looked really good on the weekend as well, reminds you of Cripps.

Taranto IIRC wasn’t a “bad” rookie either, still made 150-200k.

The reason I have Green now is because I've heard rave reviews about him. Some are saying he was a top 3 draft prospect that slid.

If you did then your eyes would tell you that he's well short, in height & size, to be a direct replacement for Pearce.

FYI Brennan Cox was filling in for Pearce.
Afraid my weakness of listening to reports and not observing myself has come back to bite me.

Can't remember where I read it but that's all I knew of Watson - but maybe it was meant as a shuffle replacement rather than like for like.

whats your reasoning behind thinking Gould isn't a lock?

If named, Gould is a lock in SC but the Swans first choice back 6 seems to be:
Lloyd Brand Rampe
Mills Aliir Dawson

Gould is a third tall so would be competing with Rampe for that role. It is possible that Mills/Dawson are released into a more wing role and Rampe plays more as a HB to create a spot for Gould. Or the swans play 7 defenders.

Sydney supporters may know better but from what I read there were suggestions that Gould may start in the NEAFL.

So here I am at the moment. I'm still trying to balance my mids, as I want Fyfe over Oliver really. Have looked at Telly too, quite like him.

D: Ryan, Sicily, Houston, Doch, Ash, Gould (Wlliams, Watson)
m: Macrae, Kelly, Cripps, Danger, Oliver, Rowell, Green, Pickett (McInerney, Budarick, Close)
R: Grundy, Naistmith (Xerri)
F: Whitfield, Dusty, Petracca, Smith, Brander, Cameron (King, O'Connor)

I don't think I'll be able to run with it though, rookies on the bench aren't that strong.

Yes fair points one to watch again

But still we need him for longer than when Ward and Taranto come back and they are stacked for options.

I have Serong on my bench too, can’t find any cheaper options. Budarick at F6 for me. Serong, McInerney and Mahoney (FD) on my mid bench, Rowell, Green and Pickett on field.

McHenry (injured his hammy), Philp (low tog) and RCD (poor score and low tog) seem unlikely for R1. Hibberd is a chance but he’s underdone.
I think Mahoney is highly likely rd 1 for North

Taranto I think may miss a fair chunk so when Ward returns it would theoretically be a competition between Hately and Green for a spot. I think if you’re talking about a competition for spots from R4, it’s usually better to take such player if named in R1, chances are that there will be another injury to a B22 player.

What am I missing here?

Oliver 70.3 from 13, Hopper 70.4 from 8. No?
I used fanfooty

Oliver 69.8, hopper 68.8 according to FF if I copied the numbers correctly.

You’ve obviously got a different source but either way close to 70.
