I guess the extraordinary circumstances of this season open the door for throwing all rules out the window.
Having said that, you have to ask yourself, how strong were you on Bont/Dunks when you first took them?
If it was pretty strong, then I wouldn't be changing my opinion on one games worth of info.
If it was a bit umming and aahing, then that might open the window to say "Nope, i'm correcting it".
Bont was in the last 4 or 5 players I put into my team, and it really was a case of, there weren't any other Mids I was strongly keen on. My other Mids are currently Macrae, Neale, Fyfe & Kelly. Maybe I'm justifying dropping him, but I'm currently looking at axing him, because I wasn't strong on him to begin with. If I do, I will be taking him down to a value pick (not Viney), and trying to strengthen one of my other lines.
Would your value pick happen to be a Sydney mid or a Carlton Mid/Def?

Just thinking, with Zaha losing endurance and Heppel battling recurring foot injury, does this open the door for the #1 recruit from 2016 draft to move to a permanent midfield role this year.? Had two good games preseason and opened with a 100+ round 1. With every one on viney could be a sneaky move.?

My guess is a certain North mid/fwd, that I'd personally like to get some thoughts on
Simpkin - $383,000 - M/F - BE 7
I think Simpkin is worth a risk, if you are heading in that direction. Interesting he averaged around 81 in Wins last season, which means he averaged around 62 in Losses. If that is an on going trend, that he averages 20 more in Wins than Losses, will he be a good pick?
Nths Draw is: GWS (away), Syd, Haw, WBull (all home),
Simpkin is in the breakout window, and it wouldn't surprise me if he pushed his average into the 90's this season, which at his price is very acceptable for a M/F. For the moment, I'll go without him, but if Nth get an easy patch of Draw, I will definitely be looking at him again.

McGrath - $399,000 - M - BE 30
Funny thing about McGrath. I was having a poor season, and needed a value pick or two to finish my team, and I could see watching the Essendon games, that McGrath had started to play more Mid time. I took him, and he kicked me in the nuts. I ended up trading him out again!
I think his Rnd 1 score was slightly high, just looking at his stats, but we are going to see a lot of that this season. He could turn out to be an inspired pick, and take himself into that 105 area, but at the moment, i'm thinking it's more likely to be in that mid 90's area. Time might prove me wrong, but I'd want more from a mid only at his price.

This is actually SPS from Carlton. D/M. Haven't heard any real talk about him as a SC prospect. Could be a smokey.
I shouldn't have been in such a hurry, and I should have checked the numbers! You did give me a whopping hint it was a Carlton player.
SPS is interesting. He has a reputation as a butcher, but I'm at work right now, and can't check to see if that holds up.
In a season where all the rules are out the window, we need to find fun in the game where we can, playing a POD like SPS, is far from the worse move. It's the same reason I'm looking at that certain Sydney player.

Would that Sydney player be of the French variety?

SPS DE% last year, 70.46%. Not great, but not horrible, somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Is Tom McCartin French?

You nailed it. Florent. If Heeney is playing Fwd, then Florent plays MID.
Florent had 6 Clearances in Rnd 1, and was 2nd at Sydney in the preseason for CBA's.
Haha :ROFLMAO:. I thought it was one of Florent or SPS. Yes, Heeney more than likely to play forward may open up even more opportunities for Florent, running machine and in that Breakout territory. (y)

To my eye sps is very good at the 15-30 meter disposal but goes a bit awry with longer more penetrating disposals. Not gr8 for sc BUT if he has improved the longer efforts could be a worthwhile pod.
Thanks for the opinion, Brian. Good to get a Carlton man's feedback.
Looking at SPS' Round 1 numbers:
113 SC, 11 K's + 8 H'b @ 58% CP & 89% DE.
2 Tackles, no Marks, Goals, or Goal Assists. 84% TOG and only 211 Metres Gained.
I'm not sure it's good enough to be consistently sustainable.
His DT : SC of 59 : 113 is very worrying. With the shorter quarters this year, a 15% boost on DT : SC is probably do-able, some might even sustain 20%, but SPS was 92% in Rnd 1. A 58% CP rate combined with a 89% DE is not sustainable. Both probably come down, which hurts his score.
0 Frees Against (2 For) and 0 Clangers is also not sustainable going through the season. What he might gain in more Tackles and Marks, probably gets eaten in more Clangers and FA's.
Unless he has further improvement in him, which is well possible, I think he's looking like a Mid 90's player at best, and at $443,300, even though he is D/M I'd want more to his upside, as his upside looks like what you'd need to be happy.

Thanks Row.

Heed this advice everyone. Stay away!

I may be bringing in SPS this week.
