If the aim of the game is always "keep as many interested as possible"... just give everyone 2 trades a week, every week like AFL Fantasy.

This game has never had that, and always valued trades very highly. Best coaches are those who have used them wisely - until 2020, where organisers have effectively ensured only those who were aggressive early had a chance of winning!
Understood, but let’s face it, if visitors to the site drop considerably then they don’t make as much from adverts, then they don’t invest it and ultimately it gets pulled.

It’s free to play, but it’s not free.

Treat the season as the outlier it is mate. Was always going to be a mess. After they completely shafted a significant portion of coaches with the ESS/MELB bye, the year lost all integrity.

As much as this format sucks, any SC is better than no SC.

Fully understand the commercial nature of the game. However, I think that existed pre Covid-19 and during the initial set up of rules where the scarcity of trades was created.

As I have said when the decision was originally made, increasing trades during the middle of the season to 3 per week would have created the same patronage at that time. It is only the back end of the season the increase in total trades would change site traffic. There is always a large drop off at the back end of seasons, can see that with all the ghost ships! So not sure they actually solved the issue you think they did either..

I’m not saying I agree btw, or suggesting it’s a perfect solution to their issue, but it’s my take on why they did it.

Well said mate.

Personally my season went off the rails with the ESS/MELB game as I was heavily affected, more so than most. If it hadn't been for the extra trades and the chance I could try catch up (well as much as possible considering how I was affected)... I probably would have stopped playing.

Direct from HS article. I better hurry up and do my trades this week because it looks like they are taking one off us. Like @THCLT I am not complaining and think it is reasonable however it not entirely consistent with the first condensed fixture changes.

R12 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades
R13 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades
R14 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H finals week 1
R15 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H week off
R16 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H finals week 2
R17 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades + H2H finals week 3
R18 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades + H2H Grand Final

The three extra trades will be added to the season total.

3 extra trades, and the problematic round 15 is now a bye for Supercoach.

Finals will start in Round 14 and skip a round before continuing in Round 16. This dodges the most treacherous bye round when six teams — Geelong, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs — all have the week off, avoiding SuperCoach elimination finals being decided purely on the number of players available — or unavailable — that week.

The three extra trades will be added to the season total.

Here’s how the rest of the season will play out in KFC SuperCoach:

R12 — normal week: best 22, max 3 trades

R13 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades

R14 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H finals week 1

R15 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H week off

R16 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H finals week 2

R17 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades + H2H finals week 3

R18 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades + H2H Grand Final

With round 15 as a SC bye, it changes how we look at players from Geelong, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda & Western Bulldogs. They can effectively be considered as having had their bye, as there will be no impact while they are out.

Hmmmm. *insert pauline hanson voice* I don't like it.

Extra trades not needed, bye round for H2H not needed. Extra max trades fine, but make people use them wisely...which ain't what's happening. A doughnut or two never hurt anyone.

In terms of leagues yes. But for those up there in the rankings (not me unfortunately) it could have a massive impact
