I’d hoped on keeping him a bit quiet for next season but we all know that doesn’t happen anymore so just wanted to draw attention to Tom Greens game last night.

21 CPs among his 30 in 67% game time against a pretty handy midfield group. With another preseason in his legs he’s at the top of my list for an Oliver type second year.

I’m still firmly in the camp that he’ll end up the best player out of that draft when we look back in 15 years.

After last night's game he will be approximately $ 398 k for next season (possibly gets a discount) so is too expensive as a mid to be a stepping stone ?

Certainly was impressive though.

Before today he was the 10th highest scoring defender and had scored less than 100pts fewer than Ridley or Laird across the whole season. Even though he's been frustrating, that's hardly a fail for $430k.

Hear, hear. Coaches have to learn to temper expectations with both starting picks or inclusions throughout the season as it is not possible for everyone to average 110+ during their stay in our sides.

And given 90+% of the top 5000 either have him or have traded him out I'd say hes definitely been a good pick

Nah, the Blues will fly him up to Noosa for a really fancy time and try to get his signature, then my Bombers will convince him that we are in the premiership window and he is the missing piece to our puzzle. Then he will play 10 good years of footy with us as we finish 10th - 13th most seasons, might even get to play in a losing elimination final or two. But he will still bring a Brownlow to the Hangar in 2024.

Not going to lie, I hate that we are gifted a gun mid/fwd or two every single season. Over the years we've had Swanny, Danger, Fyfe, Dusty, Whitfield, etc. It sucks because they pretty much become an automatic selection. Takes a tiny bit of fun out of the game for me. It's the same reason I don't get excited to see Cripps/Docherty/Grundy etc. score really big - because every man and their dog has them so I gain approximately nothing. I would much rather research and choose 3 or 4 starters out of a real dodgy bunch of 12 or 13 possible top forwards at the start of each season.

There is some strategy though with it. Ie Whitfield was actually a poor starting selection this season although he will still be a top 1-3 pick. Could say the same for Dusty.

Tom Stewart is locked, Laird is locked (and should be Dpp), Lukosius worth a look

Cripps will be too cheap to pass up, Dunkley will be at a great price. JKelly and Fyfe worth a look. Walsh and Bailey Smith both big breakout candidates.

Whitfield looks like he'll keep forward status so he and Dusty are likely starters, as is Marshall if he gets Ruck-Fwd status, which appears likely.

He finally made it into some of the summary pages last week (as his overall average season rating was impacted by his injury game early in the year), and they have him as a MID/FWD. But then in the HS article released last week where they gave some 'current' 2021 positions, they had him listed as a DEF. So it's a bit of a strange one. I suspect he'll be a DEF, and that there may have been a mistake in not having updated Whitfield's position for the AFL Player Ratings summary tables.

Very interesting, I just found the same article. It also said Dunkley could be a mid-forward and that Fyfe was close.

Maybe after that article was written he’d spent the next week forward/wing and the balance of his positions shifted? Not sure but you’re probably right and it’s a mistake

Not sure if Dunkley is that injury prone, had a couple of injuries which seem more unlucky than due to injury proneness. A dislocated shoulder and a Syndesmosis injury are the two injuries which have kept him out the most to date. If Dunkley is a forward next year he's my first picked player in that position.

Fyfe on the other hand is as injury prone as they come.

Probably better that Fyfe and Whitfield don't get forward status so that more skill is involved in selections and so that we are able to start some cheaper options knowing they have a chance of top 6-8.

Will be a pretty popular strategy to start Marshall in the ruck alongside Grundy and pray that Gawn drops a bit early.

Even so it’s a fairly stacked forward line. Fyfe, Dunk & Dusty pick themselves as forwards and with Heeney likely to be extremely popular, those four seem like the obvious starting picks this far out.
