Anyone else considering Sam Walsh?

He started the year playing mainly on the wing but moved into the guts in the 2nd half of the season. He then averaged 114 points in the final 11 games of the season. Not likely to get tagged with Cripps & Williams there.
Has been in my midfield from the start and unlikely to leave.

AFL 2021: Charlie Comben cops tibia stress fracture at Kangaroos training

The Kangaroos have been dealt a nasty pre-season blow, with a young gun touted as Ben Brown’s replacement sidelined indefinitely.

One of the young key forwards North Melbourne hopes can help fill Ben Brown’s void has suffered another injury setback.

One of the young key forwards North Melbourne hopes can help fill Ben Brown’s void has suffered another injury setback.

Charlie Comben, the first of the Kangaroos’ three second-round draft picks in 2019, is set for an indefinite stint on the sidelines with a tibia stress fracture in his right leg.

Scans confirmed the fracture after the 19-year-old reported calf soreness.

He is yet to play an AFL game, having sat out last season recovering from a back stress fracture sustained in a pre-season game against Melbourne, as North took a cautious approach with him.

The 199cm forward-ruck showed promise before that injury, holding his own against more seasoned opponents with his contested-marking ability that helped earn him his ‘Mr Upside’ nickname.

Roos football boss Brady Rawlings said it was a disappointing turn of events for Comben, who was working hard to try to force his way into the club’s forward line.

“We will take an extremely cautious approach to his rehabilitation, with a view on his long-term career,” Rawlings said.

“Charlie has a lot of potential, he’s a hard worker, has a great attitude and we see him being an important part of our team in the future.

“We’re confident that Charlie’s resilient character and meticulous approach to training will put him in the best position to return to full fitness.”

Comben suffered a string of injuries in his junior days, including a broken wrist, collarbone and cheekbone, as well as an incident that left him with a broken tibia, fractured kneecap and a dislocated kneecap.

North Melbourne traded Brown to Melbourne in the off-season, meaning 22-year-old Nick Larkey ascended to the No.1 tall option in attack.

Ex-Collingwood recruits Jaidyn Stephenson and Atu Bosenavulagi, skipper Jack Ziebell, Cam Zurhaar, hotshot prospect Tarryn Thomas and swingman Josh Walker are other forward options.

The Roos are also trialling key forward and former Lion Sam Skinner, along with another ex-Pie, Flynn Appleby.

Option 2. For me, Heeney can go eat a bag of D's. Been burnt too often by him. Why wouldn't you put Danger in your Fwd Line?. That gives you another premium mid in mids.

You still need to have the cash to be able to get that extra premium. Having him forward or in the mids, it still costs the same amount of cash.

It does make sense to have him forward if you can, as mids score higher on average, but depends who else is selected.

Danger is currently in my mids. Won't stay there forever and probably means I have more certainty over who I want in my fwds than my mids...

Scrimshaw will develop and likely add a useful amount to his 2020 average.

But it's a wait and see at Hawthorn to see how that backline lines up round 1. Hartigan in. Plenty of chat that Impey may go to half back. If true Impey has enormous potential to build on his 2020 average.
I haven't been paying any attention to pre-season training, but I think he nearly needs to play forward. Not much in the way of forward options at Hawthorn if you look through their list. Defence is in much better shape.

Its all speculation at the moment. The predicted best 22's I've seen so far have Wingard at half forward, which could be a 50/50 mid/fwd role. If so our forward line is very short and Impey may need to play there. No Gunston early on wont help. Going to have to get through a season with a solid midfield, a developing defence, not a great ruck setup and a questionable forward line.

Yeah, think Wingard will have to spend a reasonable amount of time forward.

Who will play the most games this season from the below.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan
1 2 Crows Riley Thilthorpe
1 3 Kangaroos Will Phillips
1 4 Swans Logan McDonald
1 5 Swans Braeden Campbell
1 6 Hawks Denver Grainger-Barras
1 7 Suns Elijah Hollands
1 8 Bombers Nikolas Cox
1 9 Bombers Archie Perkins
1 10 Bombers Zach Reid
1 11 Crows Luke Pedlar
1 12 Giants Tanner Bruhn
1 13 Kangaroos Tom Powell
1 14 Dockers Heath Chapman
My predictions...

Plenty of Games: Phillips, McDonald, Ugle-Hagan, Perkins

Likely Plenty (But Awaiting Preseason to see how their sides structure up): Campbell, Grainger-Barras, Powell

At Times: Bruhn (Typical GWS in and out type rotation)

DGB might need to get his fitness up first. Training report says he finished last in the 2km time trial and was almost throwing up.

Not a fan of Preuss? Assuming he plays number 1 ruck, he will score significantly better than Daniher for not much more $$.

Of the two options, I prefer option 1 since Cripps is probably much better value than Gawn. But I think Sloane is pretty done and might play less midfield, while Titch is in doubt for round 1.

Carlton co-captain Patrick Cripps is getting back to full fitness following off-season shoulder surgery.

The former AFLPA MVP suffered three ‘instability episodes’ on his left shoulder during 2020 and opted to undergo surgery after the season.

Blues director of high performance Andrew Russell said the club has a different plan for Cripps across the 2021 off-season.

“He’s basically doing 95% of the training now, so he’s in great shape,” Russell told the club’s website.

“He’s had a fantastic off-season, he worked hard on his body strength.

“We tried to make him a bit lighter last year and get his run up, but we’ve gone back to making him strong.”
