Big Footy - The_Axeman
Intraclub game
It was a stinker of a day heat wise. I very quickly moved to the shade provided by the great John Jennedy Snr to watch the game with houdinihuddo & SYL. Ordovician joined us in the 2nd Qtr.
Here are my thoughts (sorry If I am repeating what others have already said or contradicting what others have said. Actually, on second thoughts, I'm not sorry):
Gold
Gunners
T Philips
Big Boy
Parsons
Lynch
Jekka
Shiels
Rule
Worpel
Ward
Morris
Lewis
Porter
Aducci
Hardwick
Newcomb
Green
Moore
Brown
Finn
Jaeger
Macdonald
Bramble
Seamus
DGB
Seeing
Kosi
Callow
Howe
Hartigan
Sicily
T Mitchell
Reeves
Ed Philips
Frosty
Scrimshaw
Wynd
Morrison
Best on (in my opinion):
Newcombe
Howe
Moore
Lewis
Newcombe
dominated in the midfield and went forward and had an impact. Kicked at least a couple. He is a beast. Remember, this is his first AFL preseason. Lock for round 1.
Lewis spent a lot of time playing on shorter opponents, nonetheless he was outstanding today. Great marking and a bag of goals. Don't know how many he kicked, 5 maybe plus a few behinds. He also got up the ground and took marks. Huge game from him.
Moore was brilliant. His overhead marking was a strength and he basically just caused havoc in the forward half offensively and defensively. Kicked a ripper goal . Sublime game from Dylan
Howe was excellent from the first bounce to the last. Spent time at half back and on the wing and was effective everywhere he went. I have him playing round 1.
Callow had a great day. He dominated early, dropped off a little bit but was consistently good. He got up the ground and took marks, delivered nicely to the forwards. I think he got a goal or two and did some rucking at one point.. Promising signs.
Ward & Macdonald were both excellent. I would actually give Macdonald the edge over Ward today. He combined well with Jaegar & Tom. Jaegar had a slow start but came alive in qtr 2 and dominated for a while and was very good from then onwards. Mitchell was also good.
Worpel was probably the next best mid after Newcombe.
Morrison was excellent. The epitome of composure and like Howe, just effective with everything he did, including some sublime runs down the middle. Round 1 liley, but who misses out?
Surprise of the day was Ned Long. He was really good all day. His kicking is outstanding.
Reeves had the better of Lynch in the ruck. He worked well with Tom & Jaegar. and took a fantastic mark in the back 50. Lynch got better later in the game thanks to his endurance. I also like the way that Lynch gets involved around the ground. Seems to be a reliable user of the ball. I think they will be a good combo in the coming years.
Defender wise, Sicily was outstanding just doing what he always does. Denver was unhinged in all the right ways. Hartigan had a bit of a downer but has been very good every other session I've seen.
Scrimshaw was classy as you would expect and Hardwick just did what he always does.
Seamus Mitchell had a 5 minute patch at the end of the the first qtr where he was up and about and probably had two or three goal assists.
Tom Philips was rarely sighted. Same for Jeka.
Did not play:
Wingard
Impey
CJ
Day
Nash
O'Hara
Brockman
(Would post the detailed write up from Kambo on BF that I mentioned previously but I am having a lot of issues with copy/pasting not working well tonight, it's over about 10 posts. Even this single post above has taken about 5 mins to copy/paste properly...).
