I hope he takes his opportunity as I have family that know him from his Falcons days and from all reports hes a ripping bloke, just not sure he defends as comfortably at senior level as he did in the VFL theres a pretty drastic difference in quality IMHO, not sure the scoring output or general performance warranting his spot in the best 22 will be there which you really need when a rookie is slightly inflated in value.
No disagreement here, physically he's well and truly good enough to do it and it does suit the skillset well, imo.

His brother is our clear #1 KPD. Rampe will ideally be the 3rd tall. Which leaves one spot, from what I've seen Sam Reid would be the top of the list for that spot right now but he's got the most unreliable body going around. So then it's Melican vs Paddy as the other two who could win the spot, I think Paddy has more potential than Melican but Melican has been a very serviceable player as well.

Hopefully we don't need to go to picks like him but if he did win a spot I think he can hold it down for the season and do similar to a Butts type last year, perhaps with a bit more ball winning thrown in.

Ive thought for ages Reid should play back, so its good to see they have finally done that, generally easier on the body and still think theres a talented player there deep down, could get a couple years of good service yet.

Has done it at times in the past and he's pretty good at it. His body doesn't seem to hold up regardless of position though unfortunately. Could have been anything if he could stay fit.

Is this the year to fade the top 2 draft picks due to projected roles? With a plethora of mid rookies. Long way to go yet with practice matches to come. Maybe an extra premo or a couple of 2nd yr Bowey or Powell types?

Love him as a player but no way am I going near him yet. He’s always injured. Played great early then got injured then came back mid year and got injured and has had a limited pre season because you guessed it he’s injured and getting managed again.

Need to see him string at least 10 games together to be convinced he can be a consistent supercoach player. High side is that he looks amazing when he plays and the potential is there but yeah, factoring in constant injuries and I think he’s an easy avoid to start the year

..........young defender Will Day did not take to the field and continues to be managed through the summer..........
AFL 2022: Sicily, Gunston impress as Hawks’ young gun signs on (smh.com.au)
He would be in my team for sure at that price if he was fit, but with an interrupted pre-season I'll pass. Looking to be an absolute gun if he can get/stay fit though. He would actually fit in nicely - I have a setup I quite like where I need a player around that price or slightly higher for D5. If he does get back into full training and looks good in pre-season matches, I might still select him, but not convinced he will.

I'm definitely thinking the opposite. DPP changes means you're likely getting a DEF and FWD out of those two that can be relied on until the byes. Probably doesn't hurt that I love the Daicos role and think the JHF role will also be solid, I'm expecting Daicos to be comparable to Heppell's rookie season/role and JHF to be at that Heeney/Fyfe type level. I really rate them as prospects.

Also think they're both outstanding prospects.

If better options do pop up then I'm happy to not pay for them but at this point they're both firmly in my team and would need to be pushed out by strong narratives elsewhere or a significant weakening of their own narratives.

Day's durability and lack of proven scoring would need him in the 250k group personally and would still need a perfect preseason. Stud of a prospect and just hope he can get his body right at this point.

Someone tell me if I'm looking at this the right way...

Say I have Rowell and Berry under consideration: Rowell is $342.9k, Berry is $268.5k. Suppose I think they have roughly equal cash generation prospects and will make $130k in decent time.

That means Rowell averages something like 98 and Berry 83, or in dollars per point, pretty much 3500 $pp for Rowell and 3235 $pp for Berry.

Given they both still require a trade to turn them into a keeper, isn't this saying that Berry is ultimately a better pick? He costs less outlay to make a useful profit and also generates a better points return for the dollars invested.

There's the fact that Rowell would have scored maybe 105 more points over 7 rounds, so that tilts it the other way, and I guess the cash vs points equation weighs in somehow as well.
