That advantage can be lost pretty quickly with limited rookies providing suitable bench options.

I'm keen to start 4 of Macrae, Steele, Touk and Oliver and Neale and I've got a team I really like but the bench is scary and I'm not sure I like Ridley over Cripps.
Plenty of bench options available , people just don't like paying the price.

Gibcus , McCartin
Rachele , Ward , D Stephens
J Hayes
Durdin , Baldwin (Dixon)

5 $ 200-300k forwards
Berry
Grawndy
take a punt on a Blakey , Bowey , Chapman , Richards etc

Amazing what you can end up with 😀

Key is use or lose Cripps & Rowell

Hawthorn is confident No.7 draft pick Josh Ward will be fit to take his place in the round 1 side if selected but has been hit by a spate of Covid positives ahead of the clash against North Melbourne.
Ward put in a slashing audition for his debut against Richmond but pulled up with some calf soreness ahead of Sunday’s clash.

He had scans but was cleared of any damage.
The Hawks believe he will be fit to take his spot in the side if handed a debut.
While they are yet to confirm he will play it is understood he will be picked for round 1.

“Round 1 injury and selection news: Stay up to date with every club
Hawthorn is dealing with a number of selection concerns after a host of senior players entered the league’s health and safety protocols.

Unfortunately for the Hawks they have a number of players in health and safety protocols that would have been selected in their senior side.

It means the Hawks will go into Sam Mitchell’s first contest well short of full strength.”

Whitfield , Sicily , Hewett , Blakey + 4
Macrae , Steele , Tuk Tuk , Neale , Cripps , Berry , JHF , Daicos / Rachele , Ward , Stephens
Grawndy
Dunkley , Cogs etc etc

Weaknesses are Hewett , Blakey , no Butters/Heeney , but already have 4-5 premium mids

You are a brave man for having Hewett as D3.

FWIW Hewett is currently D6 in my team.

Against that midfield 🥰🤗🥰

Wait for the premium defenders to reveal themselves , get them for $ 500-525k.

Hewett or Blakey becomes Oliver in Round 7 via Daicos.

See if McGrath , Merrett (?) , Pendles get DPP

Plenty of options for structures this year.
Pendles will get DPP. Merrett won't get DPP.

Mcgrath might get DPP.

But with Pendles, if he's spending a reasonable amount of time down back to gain DPP status, I don't think he will average that well anyways given the number of rebounders we have down back - Howe, Crisp, Maynard, Quaynor, Noble and even Moore.

Mcgrath could be interesting, but still more or less the same problem.

Neither Pendles or Mcgrath (6th - 10th range at best) will be a must have in defence if they play enough time down back to dilute their scoring potential.

And once Tay Tay & JDG get injured again Pendles will be back in the mids and his average will rise again 😀

Crisp will be in the mids , Noble will be in the VFL and the rest will be instructed to give the ball to Daicos & Pendles at all costs.

Sounds like a lot of conditions for a player with an upside of 95 even as a full time midfielder.
