Rowell’s head clearly cocks back as a result of the high contact, AFL will surely appeal.

I agree as this sets the precedence for the season .....
- I'm not overly fussed by the players or teams involved ... to me it is the act and intent ...
- I don't for one second believe he had any chance to mark that ball ... for starters you generally need to be looking at it first ....
- Just saw that it was Intentional and Reckless to start with .... just lucky (thankful) Rowell is a tough nut, got back up and played on ...
- Anyway just my view ... easy to dissect in slow motion ...

I am stunned ... I thought the AFL were taking head injuries/ concussions much more seriously these days?
Said it many times already, the potential for a serious head injury was certainly there/ slight changes in height (Rioli jumping higher or Rowell being lower) & it would of been huge ramifications not just for Rowell's football career but his life in general (Daniel Venables). Love watching Rioli play but that was so dangerous, I was shocked seeing it live as that action could of had such huge consequences.

If this saga doesn’t result in the AFL having a good look at the definitions they use to grade actions at the MRP/Tribunal, then they are failing in their duty of care towards players, especially in light of the push to protect the head.
All the recent talk from AFL about protecting players heads now sound like pure damage control to make it seem like they are doing enough to minimise future lawsuits.

Just like the rules were changed to the sling tackle, which is dangerous to head injuries,
I think the AFL should look at strenthening rules on 'Players Acts' that are dangerous to head injuries.

........The new rule puts greater emphasis on the potential of any dangerous tackle to cause injury, rather than focusing on the actual level of injury inflicted.........
AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said
“We want to be clear; protection of the head is our highest priority and we want all players at all levels and age groups to better understand that these tackles shouldn’t be part of our game.
“Dangerous tackles have the potential to cause head injuries, and it is essential that this is taken into account when assessing an incident under the AFL Tribunal guidelines.”
