Any other rookies worth a look? Apart from Rosas.
I really liked Kreuger, good JS, reasonable scoring. Pitty he got injured R2 as was my FD to play R1. At $200k though not the perfect downgrade, but can avg 70. So if you want a Hall replacement to keep Daicos middle for whatever reason then he’s your man.

Those under $ 200k that played Round 6 and on the Bubble for Round 7.

Hayes , Callaghan , Parks , Hobbs , Lohmann (injured) & Baldwin

Quite a simple filter found the information in less than 2 minutes.

Dempsey , Curtis , Strnadica , McComb , Hately looked to be the 5 newbies that appeared.

I think your list highlights the lack of real options atm.
Hayes & Callaghan the 2 bubble boys worth looking at, and Parks the only DEF option but doesn't scream pick me.
Fingers crossed that those (like me) who went early on Hobbs don't get burnt.

Let's hope Clark is the saviour 😀

Be nice to have a few more newbies appearing/debuting this round or next to see if we have anything viable coming through , something for McCartin would definitely be good.

Only really interested in Hayes & McComb from that list. Everyone else is either too expensive to justify a downgrade or an unwanted forward rookie

This is probably the reason why I wont bring in S Hayes, already have Dixon and Xerri as Ruc/Fwds, will possibly bring English in as well. Have Witts R1, Preuss R2 which would mean that my ruckline is locked if I bring in Hayes.
On the flip side, both Hayes and Preuss are scoring at fieldable levels and given roles should continue to do so, starting them over a JHF, Rachele or NOD type is going to pay on-field dividends more often than not.

Hayes also a very good shot at making 250k, that kind of cash generation is a pretty massive sacrifice just for some short term structural gains, that's basically 1.5 upgrades worth of cash.

Reality is that he's pretty perfectly time for the byes as well, if he sustains current average then he makes 250k at his bye, admittedly the unideal first bye but could cover for the Witts, Gawn and whatever hell else is representing a ruck premium by that point. Preuss and Marshall the only relevant rucks that share his bye.

Personally I think Hayes is the first genuine must have rookie target (could argue Preuss if classifying as genuine rookie). He's a really good tap ruckman with an elite midfield group, that's a very good combination.

Would not consider going early on any rookie after past experiences.
All it takes is an injury and you're stuck with a donut (might be beneficial for looping)
There are very limited scenarios that going early can be justified but given you've still got injury risk it's not common.

The main scenarios off the top of my head being:

1. Genuine best 22 type, this is generally a round 1 thing with a guy like Preuss for example (who probably didn't tick the clear best 22 part). Sometimes though a top rookie misses early games with injury and can be picked early. I think Greg Clarke could be a contender for this for example.

2. Multiple targets. This is lessened with trade boost, but if there are, now, 4 downgrade options that are all very good, going early on one can ensure getting all 4. I did this last year with the Newcombe/Bramble/Third (I forget the 3rd) last year for example and recall also doing it with Serong a couple of years ago.

3. No one on the bubble or terrible bubble options. Pretty obvious.

4. Byes. Pretty obvious again.

You're right in what you've said, traded out Grundy last week so I could get Preuss on field (had him at R3) should have done it a couple of weeks ago but got talked out of it. Hayes is in to R3 and kept Dixon (hopefully out for just 3 weeks) Xerri is holding down F6 but he might go next week or the one after to help fund the final mid spot which will send Martin to F6, leaving me with 4 upgrades to complete the team. It's going to be vital to keep that cash gen bubbling along to finance those upgrades and I don't want to be scraping the bottom of the barrel to do it as I already have enough underperforming 'premos' that look like they'll be filling those 'end of line' spots.
