Could be a scenario where I just roll the dice on the defence and just stack the mdifield and forward line though, especially if some of the mid pricers stand up in the pre season games.

100% my preference. Mostly because I have no feel on the defenders right now so I'd rather pay for information there.

If the rookies look roughly even with other positions then I'll be stacking hard.

Doesn't hurt that you've got Whitfield, Crisp and Short all currently in the mids that could definitely get DEF status and also definitely could be top 5 if they do which is just another reason to not be loaded up down back.

I do hope that there's enough rookies spread across to actually allow some different structures this year, last few years where we've basically been forced into the same structures have been kind of bland. Lot more fun when you've got people going heavy defender rookies or heavy mid rookies and the like.

Out of interest, how deep are we currently batting in the mids?

I'm flip flopping from Hopper at M5 or M6.
Hopper currently at M5. Still undecided on Yeo at D3 or D4 and what to do at F4.
Add into the mix of the multiple options you have with Callaghan, Culley, Erasmus (M5-M6) over hopper and i am more uncertain on the midfield structure every time i look at it.

The countdown continues........

North Melb.
Hopper at M7

Laird, Oliver, Bont, Steele, LDU and Green above him.

It means Will Phillips is warming the bench and I'll happily restructure to put him on field if there's three playing mid rookies to fill the slots below him. Donut at R3 currently so don't really want one at M11 as well.

I'm considering a side with :
Yeo
Settlefield
Hopper
Sheed
Draper
Cunnington
Nic Martin
Ziebell
Fyfe
Allen

Will it stay like that? Probably not, but shows what you can do going all in midpricers

Interesting excerpt:
“When you drill into the scoring numbers of Brayshaw, there is an interesting little trend. Over his AFLFantasy/DreamTeam career, he hasn’t scored more than three consecutive tons. While in SuperCoach, he has yet to do more than three in a row over his past two seasons. The thing about a stats line like this is that you can view it in two lights. Firstly, for him to still go at such a high-scoring clip and do it with a low consecutive nature of tons is only a good thing. Remember that history isn’t always an indicator of the future. Maybe the big run of tons is coming this year. The flip side is that without historical data of being runs of tons, he’ll always feel like he gives you a window of cheaper availability. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.”

That's one stacked midfield Pete, your other lines must be garbage? lol
I love the idea of a deep midfield but I just dont see how you do it without compromising everywhere else, also is frequently one of the better sources of cash generation through the season so dont want to be locking yourself out of those opportunities.

Oliver, Laird, Miller, Bont combos look great, then you see people like Sinn and Ben King on field on the other lines.

That's it Shaun and I was only being tongue in cheek with Pete, but yeah it can feel like a massive mistake going very light on a line and then they all proceed to drastically under-perform to what you expected, I feel like I've gone reasonably deep in the mids with Green at M5 and Ashcroft, Mackenzie and Phillips M6 to M8 (no Hopper). I am fairly light down back with Stewart, Daicos Yeo. Coffield and 2 rookies. Thinking of going Fyfe and Ziebell fwd too.

It feels a bit easier this year for some reason. Probably the cheap backs which could quickly fall away but definitely feels nice. Midfielders also generally pretty easy to get good value on as well, either the types who fade under tags copping a couple (Merrett springs to mind) or guys who just end up forward for a few weeks and drop off 20% (Bont or Petracca prime examples).

That said, feels like given there wont be any DPP changes that effect the mids it's a lot easier to pick the top guys, if you've got a Bont type and he gets forward status then you just swing and pick the next cab off the rank. Basically the starting mids are the safest because no one is coming and replacing them or changing the dynamics of the position.

I'd honestly like to get 6 as I've got plenty of room for Neale, Petracca and Macrae that aren't currently in my side and could also definitely see my self picking a Tom Greene type also. Steele is the one I've got right now with the most questions about him.

PS. It's also odd this year that so far the mid rookies definitely aren't screaming out, it will probably change but normally there'd be 4 or 5 names being thrown around by now.

True - latest I heard on Sinn is he is only just back in training now so I doubt he will be playing round 1, more likely to start in the SANFL I think. King I have no real interest in tbh.
What I am seriously contemplating if Mackenzie impresses in the practice games & looks start worthy (even after the scars of Ward last year 😜) is going 4 fwd premium deep in the fwds/ then Fyfe & McLean at F5/F6.
Those with King/van Rooyen/ Fergus Greene/Combden on the field at F6 are taking a real risk with potential low scores.
The only other cheap fwd I am looking at currently for the F6 spot is Luke Pedlar (173K) who is having a great preseason, looks set for half fwd role - very keen to see him in action in the preseason games.

Its late in the evening but im thinking the best value play this season is T Green . GWS
I need to see a fair bit to pick him personally, there was games last year where the role was fine and he still struggled to get near the footy, obviously natural progression is expected but I'm struggling to see the consistency over 4 quarters being there to the level that we get a 110+ mid here.

I just question if the tank is there when a guys consistently getting their time on ground and centre bounce attendances capped.

No Taranto or Hopper, I am excited. Gotta lead the CBA count

He had a block where the time on ground and CBAs were up but then it completely dropped away again, just makes me concerned from a guy we are picking wanting to get a keeper.
Hopefully he isn't attending 63 ruck contests this season.
