39. Western Bulldogs - Tyler Keitel

Age: 18
Height: 194cm
Weight: 86kg
Club: East Perth
Plays like: Jarrad Waite
Player summary: Strong marking key position player

Why: A genuine swingman with a healthy bit of attitude, Keitel could well go higher depending on how the cards fall. The Dogs will be extremely happy to have him fall this far. More than adequately covers the loss of Liam Jones. A handy growth spurt created a key position player out of the former lightly-framed flanker. Exceptionally mobile as a tall and with his natural instinct as a medium sized player meaning he is prepared to roam far and wide seeking out the ball rather than demanding it come to where he is, Keitel perhaps play his best football as a high forward. He is however, a very capable defender, where his huge leap and physicality allow him to mix it one-out with the big forwards.

Pick 40. Melbourne

Toby McLean (Vic Metro/Oakleigh Chargers)
Small Forward/Midfielder
31.1.1996 Height: 179cm Weight: 70kg
Player Similarity: Jamie Elliot

Why: What team doesn't need an exciting small forward who can take a speccy, kick goals and star for his team in the midfield on the big stage? That's what McLean has done this year and it's sure to get him noticed. He's a forward who is very aware of where the goals are at all times and exceedingly dangerous with it in his hands. He's got a nice side-step to evade any tackler and the silk to shoot from anywhere. Not to be ignored is his midfield game as he's had plenty of 25+ disposal games so is comfortable there but he may naturally transition forward anyway as players of his size do. As stated he's not afraid to try and leap on the shoulders of others to take a mark for the highlight reel.

Glad you picked Keitel there, I didn't know how far I could let him slide and didn't really want to give him to Melbourne :D

Daniel McKenzie seems to be getting lots of the late mail recently, you rate his midfield game quite highly?

Winner winner.

Don't know Connor personally but have sunk plenty a can with his older brother who was a handy footballer as well. From what i've read he could go as high as mid teens to as low as 30s. His light frame is a bit of a concern. if big Sandi happens to run through him, he may never get up!
Someone lit a fire under him towards the end of the year, he started turning it on quite a bit and was flavour of the week when BOG in the Jets' finals loss. 27 possessions and a couple of goals I think, quite impressive. You've summed him up well there, would be surprised if he was still around into the late 2nd round so should be drafted.

What were you feeling with Keitel was what I was feeling with Lamb last round!

I rate it just as highly as the average spectator, nothing too substantial. I more just see GWS trying to turn him into a damaging rebounder, couldn't really see what else they would need after picking up Wright, Lever and Ahern earlier and without a standout selection for that role I looked towards McKenzie to be the one they might look at it. Just seems like the type of player GWS would take a punt on. Don't ask me why, just a gut feeling haha. I really considered Duggan at pick 7 to be that guy for GWS knowing that there would be similar players to Ahern (midfielder/forwards) at around pick 23.

Yeah, GWS is hard to predict how they'll go for that last pick, there's not a lot they exactly need is there and it's in that no-man's land area.

Actually with Keitel think I messed up as I could see North going for him as early as 25, which would mean Menadue to Bulldogs, who would be a good fit as they do need run as well. I suppose that's the thing with these, so many different permutations :D

Not sure how well the B-class mids in Neal-Bullen or Blakely etc will be for Supercoach but I quite like them for what they do. This draft pool is too full of flankers-types for my taste. Bring on the midfield mania next year will deliver!

Well done boys.
There doesn't appear to be that nice combination of teams bereft of talent with high draft picks. Petracca to the Saints is the only one I can see. Paul Roos doesn't like playing rookies, GWS now have competition for spots and no Brisbane or Doggies in the first round.
Who do you guys think can get game time from Rnd 1?
Just coming back to this - I think that some cheaper second year players might provide some better options, in terms of both scoring and potential for games early on. Think Salem, Freeman, Sheed, Lennon, Cripps, McCarthy, Z. Jones, Lang, Dumont, Jansen etc. as well as players from previous drafts that haven't quite had the run they've wanted but have potential to next year with players such as: Jed Anderson, O'Rourke, Woodward, Nick Kommer, Morabito, Karnezis, Kavanagh, Nic O'Brien, Membrey, Liam Sumner fitting that description. All these players I've just mentioned will be priced as high-priced rookies (max $220K) or even as low as the $123K. These are the players we might have to look for next year in terms of Supercoach, because I don't see many debutants playing round 1 next year. Not many at all... hopefully this helps. Watching over the NAB Challenge I feel will actually be vital this year in getting the rookies right.

41. St Kilda – Keenan Ramsey

Age: 18
Height: 192cm
Weight: 86kg
Club: Port Adelaide
Plays like: Lachie Henderson
Player summary: Tall rebounding defender

Why: Somewhat of an heir to the Sam Fisher throne. Brenton Phillips’ (SA U18 Coach) move to make Keenan Ramsey South Australia’s number one key defender proved to be a masterstroke. After a move that created the unlikeliest of heroes, Ramsey can find himself very stiff to be overlooked as the All-Australian full back after a flawless championships. If you don’t know Ramsey’s back story –retinal cancer at the age of two meant that his eye was removed and such he has a glass eye, but that hasn’t stopped him. Ramsey may lack peripheral vision, but if anything it makes him move his head more, opening up greater options and angles.

42. Melbourne – Billy Stretch

Age: 18
Height: 180cm
Weight: 69kg
Club: Glenelg
Plays like: David Mackay
Player summary: Quick, high production outside type

Why: Father/son selection. A very outside player, Stretch can play off a flank or wing to a high standard. His speed is a highlight, and he enjoys breaking the lines. His kicking is okay but not excellent, however unlike most; his kicking does not suffer when running at his top speed. He possesses excellent endurance and some good evasion. His performances in the SANFL seniors this season have been excellent, with several 20+ disposal games and his 26 touch, 12 mark and 2 goal game against the Adelaide Crows reserves a particular highlight.

Pick 44. Adelaide

Declan Hamilton (South Australia/Port Adelaide)
Midfielder/Forward
DOB 18.3.1996 Height: 183cm Weight: 68kg
Player Similarity: Zach Merrett

Why: Another good flanker and prospect from South Australia his skills are really quite under-rated. Able to play in the midfield as a high-endurance runner but it's up forward on the flank or around goals that his game really comes to light. He is just such a good neat, efficient user of the football and is always thinking about where he will send the ball, whether it is laying off to a teammate or having a shot himself. Great at ground level he has no problem finding the all at stoppages and getting it away. Big knock on his game though right now is his small frame and it will be a couple of years at least before he is ready for the rigours of AFL football which may see him slide more come draft day

Pick 45. Brisbane

Liam Dawson (Queensland/Aspley)
Defender/Midfielder
23.1.1996 Height: 188cm Weight: 81kg
Player Similarity: James Kelly

Why: Good pick up for Brisbane, the best player from their academy this year. Very smart footballer who has been used around the ground but his main position is in defence, and rotating through the midfield. He's got the ability to play the loose man and make the intercept, showing strong marking and smarts to get into position. He has a long kick that needs work on to improve accuracy. In his time in the midfield he's shown ability to accumalate possesion easily with a good read of the game at stoppages. Tank is not all there so is a raw talent at this stage.

45. Western Bulldogs - Harrison Wigg

Age: 18
Height: 179cm
Weight: 74kg
Club: North Adelaide
Plays like: Matt Suckling
Player summary: High production, efficient kicking outside type

Why: Somewhat of an heir to the Robert Murphy throne. Widely dubbed ‘the best kick of the draft’, Wigg is a small defender/midfielder with some classy, ball-magnet attributes. Wigg – who averaged 18.6 disposals (at an efficiency of 79 per cent), 3.3 marks, 2.3 tackles, 1.3 clearances and two inside 50s in his six games – took home not only South Australia’s MVP, but also All-Australian honours. Despite playing in defence during the carnival, Wigg plays as a ball-winning midfielder at North Adelaide, averaging 28 disposals at 77 per cent disposal efficiency, including 7.2 marks, 2.5 tackles, five clearances, 6.2 inside 50s and 1.7 rebound 50s per game at Colts level.

Pick 46. Western Bulldogs

Jaden McGrath (Victoria Country/Bendigo Pioneers)
Small Forward/Midfielder
15.6.1996 Height: 179cm Weight: 73kg
Player Similarity: Jarman Impey

Why: Good speedy midfielder with high endurance to run out a game which is what the Bulldogs need and also someone who is great going forward and having an impact on the scoreboard. He is sliding because he's had an injury riddled year that has affected his output but what he can do with the ball is really devastating and his decision making to lower his eyes makes him really efficient with it. When playing in the forward half he puts his good foot skills to use by either scoring or setting a team mate up. Not very high production numbers, it what he does with it that counts and he will be hoping for more consistency in game time, less injuries and improving his bulk to be able to compete with the best.

47. Geelong - Daniel Capiron

Age: 18
Height: 189cm
Weight: 81kg
Club: Dandenong Stingrays
Plays like: Andrew Mackie
Player summary: Versatile kicker

Why: Somewhat of an heir apparent to the Mackie throne. A really slick player with a good dose of pace and a knack for really taking the game on, Daniel Capiron can be replied upon to take kick-ins, offer rebound from half back with a penetrating kick, and take strong defensive grabs overhead. Coupled with really good vision and awareness and strong decision making, Capiron is polished by foot and by hand, possessing similar traits to that of Andrew Mackie. He isn’t blessed with speed, but his agility and overhead marking feature highly. He zones off well, spoils strongly, does the team thing and drops back into space to always present an option.

Pick 49. Hawthorn

Jack Lonie (Victoria Country/Dandenong Stingrays)
Small Forward
13.8.1996 Height: 174cm Weight: 67kg
Player Similarity: Hayden Ballantyne
Why: Very skilled small forward who can light it up and provide a bit of spark in the forward 50. With a deadly left peg he's always dangerous and creative around the goals, he has all the tools to be a great small forward and provides that x-factor to a game. What will help him get drafted is his ability to play in the midfield on occasion, having no problem finding his own ball and getting 20+ disposals be it on the wing or in the engine room and is more than capable of running out games with excellent stamina and endurance.

50. Hawthorn - Daniel Howe

Age: 18
Height: 191cm
Weight: 84kg
Club: Murray Bushrangers
Plays like: Tom Langdon
Player summary: Overage backman

Why: A case of best available. Looming as the Tom Langdon of this year’s draft, Dan Howe is a tall utility who has really found a home at half back this year for the Bushrangers. In particular, he has starred in the role for Vic Country in the Championships. The 19-year old prospect has gone from rangy forward to a rebounding defender, who isn’t afraid to take an overhead mark in defence and use the ball confidently by foot under pressure. He uses the ball quickly, but his composure in particular is terrific. The way in which he has evolved himself into a more damaging and versatile player since being overlooked last year points to positive signs for further development, in which he’s projected to become a permanent midfielder.

Pick 51. West Coast

Jordan Cunico (Victoria Country/Gippsland Power)
Outside Mid/Forward
7.5.1996 Height: 184cm Weight: 72kg
Player Similarity: Josh Kelly
Why: Can play on the outside in the midfield running down the wings or around the forward half kicking goals. Offers a quick burst of pace that helps him break away and go on runs. He's a useful kick as well which can be described as penetrating as it's really quite skilled and is a good decision maker. Very outside player though, who doesn't win a lot of possessions but what he does with it is the key factor to his game.

52. Richmond – James Rose

Age: 18
Height: 186cm
Weight: 78kg
Club: Sturt
Plays like: Tom T. Lynch (Adelaide)
Player summary: Medium forward

Why: Another case of best available. One of the most exciting development prospects in this year’s draft and a player who is grossly underrated, James Rose has an explosive natural leap and outstanding hands overhead. The medium forward cuts dangerous leads, beats his opponent with his smart leading patterns and isn’t afraid to get in his opponent’s face. Despite his rangy frame, Rose is an aggressive and combative type who relishes the physical aspect of his position. More importantly, he is a difficult player to match up on, such is his agility and his versatility to play small or tall. Rose has a thumping kick and bagged 30 goals from nine games in 2013. This year saw him really improve his endurance capabilities, which has allowed for him to play a higher role, winning more of the ball.

Pick 54. Fremantle

Josh Glenn (South Australia/Central District)
Defender/Midfielder
10.3.1994 Height: 180cm Weight: 78kg
Player Similarity: Luke Hodge

Why: Overage prospect who chose to sit out last years draft as he didn't think he was ready. Should be picked up this draft as he's shown consistent improvement. A back flanker who is also good in the midfield he's a great general behind play using his kicking skills to good effect as well as the athleticism to be able to run and carry out of defence. In the midfield he is not afraid of the contest and winning his own ball and uses his other skills to push forward on the attack. Plays with high determination and with real mental toughness about him which will stand him in good stead at the highest level.

55. Geelong - Lukas Webb

Age: 18
Height: 186cm
Weight: 80kg
Club: Gippsland Power
Plays like: Jordan Murdoch
Player summary: Versatile kicker

Why: Best available. A really solid midfielder/forward, whose final game against Western Australia included an incredible tally of four goals, six marks and 16 disposals, Lucas Webb is really classy in and among the stoppages. At the Power this year, he’s been used predominantly in the midfield, but he is no stranger near goals. He is a really strong marker of the ball, whether it is around the ground or inside 50, and he marks more often than not above his head or out in front and is rarely beaten in that aspect.

Pick 57. Port Adelaide

Nathan Drummond (Murray Bushrangers)
Midfielder
19.1.1995 Height: 181cm Weight: 85kg
Player Similarity: Robert Murphy

Why: High production over-age midfielder who was overlooked last season but has done everything right this year to prove he's worth a chance on an AFL list. His game on the inside is good using his toughness and stronger body to gather the ball and his outside game is excellent too, with a big kick that helps clear the lines as well as the smarts to pick out a team mate. He's worked on his athleticism as his endurance allows him to work all day around the ground. He's not just a midfielder though as is the norm these days he can play behind the ball, providing a sweeping marking option or using his strong hands up forward as a target on the flanks.
