Assuming a bounce back of some degree from Melbourne early on in 2020 and Oliver is looking very nice at that price.

Zerrett will be tempting as usual but Boak might be a bit of a poison pill with a clear focus on getting more speed and better users of the ball into the midfield at Port next year, if the rumours are true (eg. SPP being on the trade block).

Yeo and Gaff looking very tempting as well - consistently pumping out that solid 105+ average with prospects of edging above the 110+ mark if things go right.

Dammit I'm already looking at butcherers of the ball - one thing I'll definitely be repeating to myself over and over again over the summer is "contested ball and DE, contested ball and DE, CONTESTED BALL AND DE!!!".

It's a shame I'll probably forget about it as soon as I start putting a team together next year.

Damn, some expensive players on that list - starting teams could be interesting next year!
looks that way, hope they introduce further dpp for a couple of high priced mids, ie Fyfe or Bont would be nice, looks like gnr would be the way to go with maybe 1 or 2 injury affected premos or midpricers. ?

Oliver definitely a great price, but he needs more support, Melbourne's mids a pretty weak, ie slow, injury prone, need some youth and I haven't seen anything new introduced. Yeo's a beast, hope he can be the recipient of some nice tapwork from NicNat. He might have some competition from Tim Kelly, imagine how good he would be in an Eagles midfield.

Yep, pretty hard to argue with those stats, but what if Grundy is at another club next year, a concern?
Good question ... very hard to confidently pay 130 for a player at a new club I'd argue, although he's been hard to go without, and has one more year of proof versus last time I decided not to start him.

I'm hoping I won't have to worry about it :p

So I’ve been through final averages (/likely pricing) and come up with the below as a rough starting side.

I’ve assumed 20% discounts for Docherty and Mitchell, and some positional changes.

Docherty, Lloyd, Laird

Mitchell, Macrae, Cripps, Oliver

Grundy, Gawn

Danger, Dusty, cheap option (maybe Heeney)

Leaves around 150k each for 18 rookies.
looks too easy , now to find 18 rookies

Anyone going to gamble on Lycett as a starting pick if Ryder and Westhoff leave?

With I Rankine not debuting this season it makes my premium less fwd line even more enticing. Also didn't realise Nic Nat has only played 3 games this season so he will be very appealing if he's around $400,000.

Near locks so far for 2020 for me would consist of B Grundy, R Laird, S Docherty, C Ward, D Smith, J Macrae, T Mitchell, J Kelly, N Fyfe and C Wingard.

DBJ 97 average with a 7 in there is nothing to sneeze at.

They always seem to turn up (as much as everyone, including me, freaks out about it every year).

If we are a couple short I can always downgrade or eliminate a premium. Might as well start the process with the good ones though. There’s seldom millions left in extra cash to allow room for all the big guns at the end!
