I have actually been thinking this exact same thing.

Like it seems strange to me that Dow, Roberts, Hustwaite etc. have established themselves as fieldable options and Jhye Clark is the consensus bench rookie.

Is it just groupthink at play here? Jhye Clark had the equal most CBAs of the Geelong mids against Essendon!

Other mids that were managed go past him in the real stuff, he wont get anywhere near that amount of opportunity.

Heeney looked incredible. F1 type good.

Only concern is, does the role stay the same when Parker, Adams and then eventually Mills returns?

18 contested possessions and 13 clearances for Heeney tonight - excellent game in midfield

I really want to see us transition Parker out of the midfield. He's a very good forward and I think it's time to put the much more dynamic Heeney there and let Parker be 90% of the forward Heeney is anyway. Mills is 10+ weeks away and has his own issues. He didn't play much midfield at all last year. Adams shouldn't be a problem but we're talking Horse so he could be.

Ultimately, I think Heeney is just a low risk pick. He was injured last year and so his scoring dropped off ~10 points from his normal scoring when playing as a forward. If he just gets back to that, he's a good pick and a top 5 forward barring significant changes. This role is just icing on the cake of an already sound pick, if he keeps it and plays even close to tonight, he's a legit F1 candidate as you said.

Remember the feedback from when I chatted to Dean Cox a few weeks back. Heeney has trained with midfield the entire preseason.

Mills sounded like 8-10 weeks but achilles was flagged, which may mean more wing time. Adams may be a factor but is 31 and injury issues on and off.

The banned list is torn up, if we are going down, lets do it all together. Conversely, lets channel Darkies concern we are a little herd mentality but back a winner.

Why can I see Heeney in all of our futures?

My main worry with the Henry pick is he shares his bye with Daicos, Grundy, Roberts and Jordon. That’s then potentially 5 on field picks out that week, and while best 18 helps we are potentially batting deep into our bench line for that week.

As much as I shouldn't, I've reacted to the first game of Rd 0. This is how alI end up spending all 40 trades when the real stuff starts

I have returned Heeney to my side, where he'd been all summer before the Jackson/Darcy change.

But I did it by culling a couple of 250-280k players who should never have been in my side in the first place (Tsatas and Cox), and by moving Gawn to Grundy.

I'd drawn a line through Grundy, but the risk of him being a big negative POD if he makes 150k in the opening month was too big. And similarly, if Gawn is to stop those dollars.

So I guess I have an extra premium now.

One thing to consider in relation to Heeney is the Swans’ forward line.

I only watched part of the game, fairly casually, and the commentators were suggesting that their forward line was too tall and wasn’t functioning well. There was a change made in the third quarter I believe, potentially McDonald to the deepest forward.

Amartey had 3 touches in 43% game time and kicked 1 behind before being subbed out, McDonald seemed to drop or have two grabs at a number of marks and only scored 30 SC from 8 touches and 1 goal (historically he has done very well when Buddy hasn’t played), and Mclean seemed to be doing well in the ruck but was on <0 SC for much of the game. He kicked two goals later on, but only salvaged a 44.

The Swans were playing a tough opponent and did manage to win the game, but I wonder how satisfied Horse might be with his forward setup.

Terrible night for forwards to be fair. That ball was like a cake of soap due to the humidity.

Yep, agreed with Parker. A brilliant forward, strong overhead and creative enough around the goals. Just makes sense that move.

Do fear Horse could through Adams into the mix, especially early on once he's back. The whole play a bloke in his best (only) position to make him feel valued etc. Which is all well and good, just not if it sees Heeney parked forward.

Really starting to like the pick, the next issues becomes the byes. Or do we think by then we could be flicking a Roberts and/or Jordon to kick start the upgrades process, and ultimately find an additional premium to help cover those missing?

Or will a majority of the comp be running Grundy/Heeney/Daicos? And if they aren't will you be ahead of them by running them?

These 250-400k players are super flaky as we know. Flanders a massive flop and Callaghan a success last year. What are people's plans?
Take 1-2 and hope yoi nail them? Take 4+ and cut the dead wood early? Take none?
