Essendon's setup from the Marsh 1 CBA spreadsheet was quite interesting to follow.

-Parish consistently had around 50%-60% of the CBAs and had minimal time on the wing. According to the Prospectus 2020, Parish was only in 24% of the CBAs in 2019.
-Zaharakis was used as a half fwd and not on a wing.
-Langford looking like taking Zaha's position on the wing with Langford not in any CBAs.
-McGrath in the CBAs in the first 3 qtrs before returning to his more usual position on the wing in Q4.
-Ham used consistently on a wing for the entire game.
-DSmith was used mainly on a wing in Q3 and in the CBAs in Q4. To be frank, I'm not sure if he's usually used on a wing, would've thought he'd be used in the CBs normally.

I'm a little more positive on Parish's prospects after looking at these stats further, CBAs seem to be pushed up to 50-60% (from 24% in 2019) and Langford seems to no longer be in there (pushed to a wing). D.Clarke also doesn't seem to be in Essendon's plans.

Will be interesting to see if Parish's CBs are as consistent as this in Marsh 2. Could be a chance to push a 100 average with the right inside midfield role.
I'm definitely keen on Parish this year. I was tempted last season but held off because I was worried by his low ceiling- he'd only scored two tons before last season. He showed he's capable of bigger games last year and his average would've looked better without a concussion affected 26 in round 20.He averaged 108 last season when getting 10+ contested possessions so a more inside role could be huge.

Can someone who already knows the answer save me some research as to why Parish's game count looks so bad?
I think it was injury in 2017 and 2018. Quick google reveals calf injury in 2017 and then a return via VFL. In 2018, he was dropped and then broke his thumb in the VFL (which kept him out for two months).

He was not selected for some reason in R1 2019 and then he got concussed I think late in the year for 26 and missed the following week.

2016 was his debut year and I presume his missed games would’ve just been rests.

I don’t think he is “injury prone” per se. Mixture of drops and injuries which has meant he has never done 22 games

Do you know what happened to Smith last year? Why did he spend so much time up forward?

He still had 35%+ mid time last season as he retained his midfield status.

Lesser time would’ve been due to carrying a complicated knee injury throughout the early part of the season and he also had an interrupted preseason with a bicep injury.

Really suprised to not see much discussion or love for Rozee - are people worried about the 2nd year blues?

108 SC from 57% was hard to ignore in the first Marsh and could be good alternative to the Wingard/Acres (inj) / Brayshaw / Parish F3/4 spot. Did he get concussed though?

Will be watching his furture Marsh games with interest

He is on my radar still, one I was considering even before Marsh 1. He is awkwardly priced, needs to put out keeper numbers to be a good selection, and I'm not sure he can do that consistently. If he has another strong game I might consider taking a punt on him, but I try to not rely on pre-season form too much.

THCLT is a fan.

I have never started a second year breakout player before so he is strictly a wait and see for me.

As a general rule of most of us here tend to be very hesitant of second year players backing up a great debut season. Not so much because of the second year blues but more because they are often mid priced with not much cash to generate, so you are backing them to become a premium in their second year which is a very rare occurrence.

Although Clayton Oliver for mine proved the exception to the rule, making me me loosen my stance on this philosophy when be bagged at 111 ave from 22 in his second year after his first season ave of 70.

Yep, Bont, Wingard, Fyfe, Worpel and Oliver are the exceptions to the second year rule.

They all got significant mid time in their second years which I’m not sure Rozee will get.

Surely Macrae, Wines & Dusty are part of that group as well.

Being able to select him in a position other than Ruck or MID bridges the gap that one needs to close. He's also starting from a 1st year base that is higher than most of those mentioned. I liken him to Wingard, same team, same type of player, etc. so no reason why he can't replicate the same trajectory.

Good call but I guess I was thinking more from an SC selection perspective, I think Macrae/Wines/Dusty were mid only so were not good picks SC wise. But they did breakout to 100 which would be good enough for a fwd.

To be fair, I like the Rozee pick. The second year rule as you highlighted seems to have quite a few exceptions so much so that I’m wondering what the rule is. I still will take the wait and see approach though!

He has been in my team all preseason and was really looking to see his role for M2. However, with the rescheduling of the Port/StK game and the lack of viable on-field Rookies in the FWD line, I'm reconsidering his position in my team. I would need to be sure that I can get my team to a position to be able to cover his R11 bye, meaning that I have to focus on upgrading my FWD as a priority. Not impossible by any means, but I would like to be able to control that scenario which I feel is no guarantee once we hit the ground running.

I think the changes to the bye make some of these selections a little more risky, I'm probably going to dump Houston and if he's going okay pick him up to run throught the byes, same for any other Saints/PA players that show promise.
What are your thoughts on Houston to Weller.? Current (Laird Sicily Houston).

Almost the perfect wait and see, if he does breakout, although you will pay more, you can get him bye free post R11.

Is anyone concerned or has any worries about Dusty starting at full forward in marsh 2?
We seen what happened last year when he went forward in the finals he dominated the game but didn't score particularly well in supercoach
