How will Channel 7 call AFL games in 2020?
Channel 7 will call games from a remote bunker to obey social distancing rules.

With social distancing rues in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, Channel 7 will games from a remote bunker away from the grounds to obey the strict rules set in place.

The network’s managing director Lewis Martin said the station are ready to go whenever health experts and the AFL are given the all clear to resume play, with a mid-June return believed to be the target.

“The guys (callers) will be calling from a very hi-tech centre with multiple angles and statistics and with probably more facilities (than at the ground),” Martin told The Herald Sun.

“Obviously, we would always prefer to be there (at the ground), but in this environment, it is not meant to be.

“We don’t think the audience will notice too much of a difference.”

Martin said Channel 7 had learnt a lot from its experience calling games without crowds in round one and will be more ready than ever when the season resumes.

“We are looking at some different things to make the viewers feel a part of the broadcast and a part of the game,” he said.

“We are going to make sure we bring some flavour to it, without overdoing it.”

Crowd noise recordings may also be apart of the broadcast, but Martin said the station wouldn’t over-do it.

Bringing the fans closer to the action was also a point of discussion, with various options being discussed within the station to give fans an even greater experience while adhering to strict health protocols.

“There is no doubt that through adversity comes ingenuity and innovation,” he said. “Through this time we have been looking at certain things.”

“There will be innovations that we will discover only as a result of these challenging times which might one day become mainstays of the broadcast.”

An awful record :(, at least he has other honours.

Kevin Murray began his professional football career at the ripe age of just 16 years of age and played 18 seasons and 333 games for the Fitzoy Lions. He will go down as the best player to ever have played for the Fitzroy Lions by winning a record nine Best & Fairest awards, with his first coming when he was just 18. Murray was well respected by the way he played the game and was natural leader captaining the lions for 8 seasons. His greatest success came in 1969 when he was rewarded the highest individual honour of the Brownlow medal at the age of 31.

Be some very interesting talks going on between the AFL and the SA & WA Government regarding their 2 teams and whether they allow other teams to fly in and out without isolating.

Things are changing rapidly but Marshall has been fairly adamant that he is happy for the Crows and Port to fly in and out for games but not so much other teams to fly here and play.

Society might get even more confusing soon with some businesses re-opening partially but maintaining safe distancing yet sporting codes are hoping to train and play.

Wait and see what Gill says in the next few days I guess.

Hart banned, 16 players sanctioned: AFL hits Crows for training breach
MAY 11, 2020

ADELAIDE assistant coach Ben Hart has been stood down by the AFL for his involvement in a breach of COVID-19 training protocols.

Hart will be banned from Crows facilities until June 22, 2020, after an AFL investigation found his breach, which involved 16 Crows players, to be "inadvertent and not done to create a competitive advantage".

FULL STATEMENT AFL explains sanctions

The 16 players effectively escaped sanction, all receiving a suspended one-match sanction.

The breach took place at a Barossa golf course, with Kyle Hartigan and Tom Doedee among the players, who were serving a period of 14 days in isolation, as per South Australian regulations.

The AFL probe found the players had adhered to the AFL's own edict that a maximum of two players could train together at that point in time.

The investigation found: "the players had been compliant with the protocols for the majority of a two-hour training session where they had worked in pairs before separating into two larger groups of eight – one group to complete an eight-minute kicking drill, one group to complete an eight-minute running drill in pairs, before swapping.

"The kicking drill was supervised by assistant coach Ben Hart which is where the breach occurred.

"The investigation found the club had provided written and verbal instructions to players and the assistant coach to comply with the protocols in place, however the assistant coach present had accepted that his instruction was not in line with either the rules or the club’s instructions."

AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said on Monday the AFL Commission had discussed strengthening protocols to be applied when players were given permission to return to training post the COVID-19 shutdown.

"We all have a very clear responsibility to ensure we do everything we can to stop the spread of the virus," Dillon said.

"The protocols are clear and the actions in this matter, whilst not pre-planned are a breach of them.

"We take this matter extremely seriously. We will not compromise the health and well-being of the community, and remind everyone in the industry – players, coaches, officials and
staff - that they have a responsibility to adhere to the rules for the safety of everyone in the community."
