thought of you when I heard it.

apparently had it for awhile , unable to train etc etc
Ahh bugger, didn't know that. At least he'll be cheap next year :)

McCartin out for 2 weeks after his head contact on the weekend.
Gee you gotta feel for him. He's had an absolutely horrible run in his short career.

Well that's just a kick in the shorts. I brought him in looking ahead to their match against Carlton!

Idiotic pick anyway but i was hopeful!
I brought him in a few weeks ago, hoping he'd turn things around with a big ton.

You've missed all the fun.

I think one week of fun was enough for me ;)

Part of me is thankful I was given an easy out with his longish injury, although I was pretty optimistic he’d turn it around this week. Didn’t know he was carrying something, thought it was just a form thing.

ESSENDON assistant coach Mark Harvey says Joe Daniher is struggling with injury and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

It’s believed Daniher is battling groin and knee concerns, and the struggling key forward was seen getting scans on Monday.

The 24-year-old finished 2017 with 65 goals and All Australian honours, but he has only kicked eight goals from seven games this season.

Speaking on SEN on Tuesday morning, Harvey said a decision was yet to be made on whether Daniher would need a rest.

“I think (injury has) been catching up on him,” Harvey said.

More to come

A couple of things stand out to me:

1) As a North supporter, this number makes me really happy - but also surprises me. I also know injuries will probably pop up with a younger side as the season goes on, but so far, so good :)
2) Pretty much shows teams in the current top 8 and bottom 8 when flipped...very interesting...

MRP statement on the NN suspension...

If you drive a player to the ground with excessive force whilst arms pinned, one of the factors in determining is whether it’s unreasonable in the circumstances,” Match Review Officer Michael Christian said.

We came to the conclusion pretty strongly that that was a drive with arms pinned with excessive force.

It clearly fitted into the guidelines around a dangerous tackle, therefore rough conduct.

After watching replay of the NN tackle, NN definitely did not pin Amon's arms in the tackle! So it begs the question, what footage was Michael Christian watching in order to come to that conclusion?

I do acknowledge however that report post-match has revealed that Amon suffered concussion as a result of the tackle.

PORT ADELAIDE has returned from Perth without any major injury concerns following Saturday’s loss to West Coast.

Karl Amon suffered concussion following an incident in the final quarter against the Eagles. He will be assessed ahead of Saturday's Showdown.

I'm all for 'protecting players well being' but didn't Higgins suffered the same fate a couple of weeks back?

As an avid follower of the game all I want is consistency and transparency, I'm of the strong opinion that this ruling is anything but. How can one be penalised for what I thought was a fierce and legal attack on the man with the ball, something that I applaud and want to see more of from players playing for the team which I support?

If the Eagles don't challenge this ruling and if it doesn't get overturned in their favour, then our game has serious problems from a governing and judiciary point of view. It's one thing to be protective of the assets in our great game but it's another to undermine and eradicate the very fabric which makes up our great game!

God damn this bulldogs injury curse from 2015. Maybe it was the cost that needed to be paid for what happened in 2016

The MRO is considering that the initial grabbing of Amon's torso which included the left bicep was enough to be seen as pinning the arms (rather than pinning the hand/forearm area like Danger and Grundy's tackle last year). This means that a new form of tackle is now able to be banned as pretty much every tackle will fall into the definition of "pinning the arms" if initial contact is made to any part of the arm.

Although as an NN owner I could be seen as biased, I'm not too fussed if he's out. I could use English and McInerney. But it's sad if this is taken out of the game. NN made the same tackle in round one and got a free for it. His run down tackles are an exciting part of his game.

Christensen on the radio

driven into the ground with considerable , excessive force , while the player is in a vulnerable position

apparently it is in the rules

players noe have a duty of care

so from now on a player should just yell out , OK I am going to tackle you safely and fairly with no force

totally disagree with it , but seems they have followed the rules

game is not the same as what it used to be

So much anger over the Nic Nat decision, so i'll chuck my 2 cents in to how i saw it.

Amon's left arm was pinned as part of the tackle.
Tackle was in a forward motion.
All players know not to pin arms and go for a dangerous/sling tackle. In Nic Nat's situation, he had 100% control of Amon and decided to go with forward motion instead of taking him to the side.
100% a free kick as Nic Nat was in his back when they landed.
Amon's head hit the ground due to Nic Nat's forward motion.

What would the response be if Amon was concussed? 1 week sounds about right, possibly 2?

The MRP are trying to minimize the possibility of players getting concussions (head high bumps, sling tackles, dangerous tackles etc), possibly being harsh with a 1 week suspension, but they would see it as setting a precedent for the rest of the season so players know what to expect.

Result: May get overturned but i would not be at all surprised if the 1 week stands.

Amon was concussed in the tacke, went back on then left the field with delayed concussion and didn’t play the rest of the game.

The rules say if you pin the arm/s and endanger the head you get a week. Pretty black and white IMO.

Whether the rule needs to be changed or not is a whole different conversation.

There are arguments either way. However, Michael Christian's explanation of the charge made no sense at all.

Also, it's as though we expect players to stop time, measure angles, think about mechanics and also semantics when playing the game. It's becoming a farce.
