At the start of the year, I basically resolved to hold for two week injuries, and trade for injuries flagged as 3+.

Given how many two week injuries have dragged on, I'm not sure that has been a helpful rule ... But surely you shouldn't trade for one week, so what to do?!
Something people seem to ignore is that usually players score well below their premium output when they come back. I myself stuffed this up by not trading Wells when he was out.
I have set the bar at a minimum of 150 pts for points you want to gain from a trade. 1 week clearly won't get you 150 points. 2 weeks might if you're saving donuts OR the player you trade in can outscore a rookie score by 60+ a week and you make up points on your traded out player. 3 weeks is a must trade out at this stage unless they are the TOP or close to top averaging player in their line. Although, if you're on your last couple of trades though, you might be better off holding off until you cop donuts (which I am going to do with Deledio).

I've taken the aggressive approach to injury trades this year so it remains to be seen if it works for me with my lack of remaining trades, but looking good re: Wells so far. I thought he had more cons than pros in holding due to his injury history, popularity, etc. I also expected him to become a tagging target, which I did get a bit lucky with first up tag from Mitchell. Will be interesting to see how teams tackle Wells/Goldy from here on in after what Port did to them.
I've actually done exactly the same as you Bomber18, pricing trades at 150. [I intended to make this more like 180 earlier in the year and 120 around now, but it wouldn't yet have changed my decisions.]

I find my cover usually scores around 35 less than the player he replaces, particularly because for much of the year, you'll be using one of your inferior rookies as thecover (with someone like Kerridge already on the ground, and Tippa as the cover). 3 x 35 is only 105, but I think bomber boy's point is a good one, and obviously adds to the point gain. If they score poorly, and especially if they got injured mid-game (and hence only managed a low score), they often drop in price on their return, so you can get them back cheaper as well, again increasing the benefit of trading.

and the risk with an injury of three weeks is that they seem to often become 4+ anyway - you have to call it at some point, lest you get stuck with another Laird.

I focused really heavily on durability in my starting side this year, and I think it has served me well. I may have taken my eye off the ball a bit with the durability of one or two of my trade-ins, so I think there's scope for improvement on this front again next year.

So who's actually more likely to be back sooner and/or play more games this year out of Lids and Hall? I can't find anything that sways me one way or the other!

It's hard to say either way at this stage without an update on Hall. Hamstring tightness doesn't sound good at all.
Lids at least we have a proper diagnosis of with his own assessment today.

Lids definitely sounds like he'll be back. But you can't be sure if it's next week or the week after.

Atm if you had to trade one, it'd have to be Hall as we don't have any information how bad the hammy injury is.

in halls last 10 games his only scored over 100 once which was 118. he had really good start to the season but has faded ever since. if lids was missing the next week or two and played out the rest of the season, i would trade out hall. however lids is an unknown. he can return and everything goes smoothly or he can return and his out for the season. if u have trades, save them for both players. atm im carrying hall, wells, and lids in my forward line and feeling very nervous

They make it hard......

From the few little snippets it sounds like:

Barlow: Season
McVeigh: 1-2
Lids: 2-3
Hall: No ETA

The first two seem like no brainers, trade Barlow and hold McVeigh. I have no idea what to do with Hall / Lids. If they were certain to miss more than 1 week then trading would be the best option, and if they were certain to only miss 1 you would hold. The uncertainty makes it a real roll of the dice, particularly when you have both...

Edit: From a link someone posted about Lids, it actually sounds reasonably positive to be 1-2 weeks

“It’s probably still a little bit tight, I’ll see what I can do at training today and then leave it in the medical guys’ hands as to what they think is best for me and wait until Sunday.

“If it’s not feeling great then I’ve still got another couple of days to see whether it gets all right, no rush at the moment.”

“My gut feel is that it might need a little bit extra time, you just don’t know,”

“I wasn’t concerned one bit until I went to do a warm up in the rooms at halftime and just started to feel a little bit tight,” he said.

“It felt very similar to what it did round one a couple of years ago when I played through it … (ended up) costing me three or four weeks (on the sidelines), knew that if I stopped there I’m a chance to get it early and hopefully not miss too many.”

from reading the above quote i would think he will back next week. however the hall problem is interesting..

you dont hear many players returning to afl after a 1 week hamstring injury. normally its 2-3 weeks. in saying that and based on the evidence and scoring potential, its best to hold this week but i will highly considering trading hall out instead of lids. great news for hall and lids owners is dalhause will drop in price so it will be a straight trade.

re Hall

It's all speculations until something is confirmed by the club. I think that took us all by surprise as there was no murmur of his possible injury throughout the week.

I don't recall him doing his hammy last week as he played out the game and was full of running towards the end. If it happened during training, then you would suspect that it was during the very last session. The key information everyone is waiting on is: Is it just 'tightness' or an actual 'tear'?

As an owner, I'm obviously hoping it's just tightness but am fearing the worst, especially considering how their season is transpiring.

@_benlevin_ he got it checked out today. Club says it is just some tightness and they aren't concerned. Likely just a week out.

This is from the Swans website

"Speaking to SwansTV for Centrum Team Selection, senior coach John Longmire was hopeful that McVeigh's injury was only a minor setback.

“Obviously being a training injury, it doesn’t give him much time to get ready for Saturday’s game,” Longmire said.

“He was running in a straight line, hurt his groin, felt a twinge, so unfortunately he’ll be unavailable for this weekend.

“We’re hoping that’s all it is.”

Just when I was feeling good about trading him for Franklin... Might leave the trade anyway. He's only had 5x 100+ scores for the year, and 1 in the past 10 weeks!

Scrap that report.

He's out for 3 weeks according to Eade.

Coach Rodney Eade confirmed the midfielder’s injury was only minor but Hall would still miss a couple of weeks with a return unlikely until the SUNS’ round 21 clash against Essendon.

“It looks like it’s only a minor one but it’ll be two weeks probably after this game, so three games,” Eade told United Coaches Chat on Friday.
“It’s a bit unfortunate with our best six midfielders now out so it puts a lot of onus on the inexperienced guys we’ve got there.
“But one thing about the group they’ve shown a lot of spirit and players that have come in have really grabbed their opportunities so hopefully we can do that again.”

At least it makes the decision to trade him easier. Would be worse if they were both like Deledio, shrouded in mystery.

Note they are saying 3 games. Back round 21. Eade's two week comment is misleading. Its 2 weeks after this weeks game.
Lol, well that escalated quickly:(
