Hi guys!
I'm a 17-year-old male about to start Year 12 in Melbourne's north-west. Like most people my age, I've been asked what I would like to do in the future. The immediate and well-practiced reply is, "I'm not sure yet." Currently looking into a career in law, although I'd be more than happy to sit on my backside and follow the sport all day. Being of an Indian heritage, the high expectations naturally follow but I'm confident I'll be able to cope (this year max, it gets a bit grinding when Ma constantly reminds you in her gentle Indian accent about the pitfalls of life.) Weirdly for an Indian, I suck at Maths but I'm good at English.
My first memory of sport was when Herschelle Gibbs infamously 'dropped the World Cup' back in '99. Ever since then, I have been an obsessive cricket-lover, constantly absorbed in the game. As a result, I probably took my cricket a little too seriously when I was younger (used to cry when Australia lost lol) without actually getting anywhere (no reps side to boast of). As I've gotten older, I've learned to relax and just enjoy the game. Consequently, I've gotten a lot better in the last 2-3 years. I play u/17 Sunday Turf for my local club, batting at 4 or 5 and given a trundle with ball (medium pacers) most of the time. I've marked my fielding territory in the covers. I have a good pair of hands but I hate fielding in the slips because you have to stand still and you're so uninvolved in the action. Cricketing heroes include Warnie, Pidgeon, Punter, Huss, Sangakkara and Tendulkar. I really miss watching Warnie and Pidge bowl - absolute geniuses with metronomic consistency and a dash (being generous) of showmanship. I can't watch Australia vs India in the same room as Dad (Indian supporter). He once had me by the neck when I egged him on a little too much after he had a few. Fair to say, Ma makes sure we're separated when the Indians are touring.
Also love my footy. I was born near Windy Hill and my first recollection of AFL was when Essendon won the flag in 2000. Been a die-hard Bomber ever since. Coincidentally, their new base in Tullamarine is about 5 mins from my house. Absolutely hate Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond. Comes with the territory doesn't it? I admit I admire the way the Pies go about business internally but their supporters (the ones whom I know) just irk me, especially when they win. My biggest regret so far is that I didn't force my parent to let me play footy when I was younger. They believed I would have ended up in a nursing home before my time. I reckon I would have played of the forward flank with the ability to push up into the midfield when needed (wishful thinking, I know). Favourite players include Hirdy - pure class, Dusty Fletcher - just keeps amazing me, Jobe - self-made player and inspirational, Pendles - oozes class, and Ablett - freak.
Also love my tennis. I love watching Federer. His footwork and range of strokes is out of this world. Djokovic is always enjoyable to watch. Tomic certainly has a lot going for him. Lleyton - you know he's going to give it everything out there. Like my F1- GO RED BULL!
Reading on the toilet is my favourite pastime. Favourite books include the Harry Potter series, Dan Brown books, 1984 by George Orwell and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee . Currently reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (for school). A lot of these previously mentioned books have been read on the loo lmao. I enjoy reading the Newspaper too. The Age is my choice. Favourite movies include the Batman series (Christopher Nolan), The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Ocean's series, Due Date and Up in the Air. I recommend that people watch Life of Pi. It's well written and makes you think. Favourite TV shows include Everybody Loves Raymond, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, House, King of Queens, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Packed to the Rafters, Merlin, House Husbands and Revenge. Big Coldplay fan (Yellow, The Scientist and Fix You are my favourites), love my Daft Punk, Kasabian and Cinematic Orchestra. Recently been getting into classical as well - Moonlight Sonata No.14 (Beethoven) and the 6 Unaccompanied Cello Suites (specifically the Prelude) are such remarkable pieces of music.
Started and got addicted to SuperCoach in 2011. Finished 300,000 after making some really bad selections and wasting my trades. Last year, I made a concerted effort to do well and did a lot of research (thank you TooSerious, SuperCoach Paige and SuperCoach Scores!). It paid off and I finished 5173, winning all but one league. Hoping for a similar result this year.
In summary, I love my sport and SuperCoach. Good luck to everyone in 2013!
Sorry about the bio lol.
