D Rich VS A Witherden VS J Lukosius
I think WItherden's JS is still a worry so I prefer to wait and see if he is legit and Rich still has the threat of the tag - while yet to break out i like Luko of the 3 for the upside and GCS likely start the year well I think. his skills are sublime and will surely mean they want the ball in his hands coming out of the back half. Also i think he would be the sort of POD that would just be fun to watch and barrack for week in week out

Macrae & Caldwell v Taranto & Dusty?
Tough one. Depends what you rate the gaps between to 2 pairs. I’d wager the gap is bigger between Dusty & Caldwell than Macrae & Taranto so I’d potentially lean there.

Depends how deep you bat in the mids though too. If this pushes Taranto to M4 then I think it’s too shallow.

Duggan with Mid rookie and Fwd Rookie

Or

Def rookie instead of Duggan, which means Heppell M6 and Daniher F5
Think depends if you have a williams or other player that we are hoping role change leads to higher score. Dont mind Duggan if he is effectively 13th premium. Will get mid time, more so early in season, then defence a fair bit of time.

Heppell should be good to make $150k and get with 15pts of Duggan, does Daniher make up the 15 vs another rookie.

I am currently rocking Heppell/ Daniher over pushing for a 13th semi premium. Duggan and Butters the better choices and preferred over the sub400k ones as they should go close to 6th-10th rough ave.

Thanks for the reply GFB. In terms of points I looked at similar to you. Allowed 35 pts for having Duggan instead of a rookie. So 100, 65 and 65 with Duggan or 230. Or 65, 95, 85 for Heppell with Daniher for 245.

Current team version I am pondering in Duggan mode as opposed to Heppell/Daniher

Gawn/McInerney rucks is a bit different to the usual combo. I prefer Grundy obviously, but McInerney should be one ruck around that price with upside.

Option 2 for me, unless you're confident Duggan is a solid keeper.
To Darkie's point, Duggan has to be kept, unless he is a disaster. Think given his backend performance plus some mid time, he should be good for 95-100. Even if that is 15th, it shouldn't be hugely different to 6th. Key I think is having the top 3 on each line who tend to bat 20 points higher than 6th/8th-15th.

However, I currently have Heppell plus have used the spare change ($130k) from a Duggan to put into Stocker (D4 - 60k), DGB (D5 -60k) and maybe a little to Chapman (D6 -25k, not sure he plays). That is 2-3 extra rookies I am covering if solid $123k guys don't turn up.

If they start turning up (Highmore, Chugg, Gould, Wehr, ) then we can pair this back. If Cahill for the dons play of the HBF, then maybe Heppell goes and I upgrade a 123k fwd to Daniher.

If I simplify down 12 vs 13 premium team, where I exclude the Duggans/Butters and assume we want a Dunkley/Stewart type quality in the fwd/def line, the differences are (Chugg can move fwd, currently in defence):

1) Dunkley/(Stewart +20k) (assuming 105) +Roger Collier Dawkins (60) + Brockman (50) + Highmore (50)
vs
2) Ziebell (80) + Daniher (70) + W Phillips (70) + Stocker (70) + $43k

Assuming the rookies Do turn up and 1, which do we prefer?

Scoring - Team 2 +25pts
Value - Team 2 gain at these averages +$150k ($193k incl cash/$173k if Stewart)
Trades - Team 2 needs to used 2 trades to equal premiums

Some lesser names.
Issac cummings vs hayden young vs both (d4 and d5)
Very tough. Both have featured heavily in my D4 and D5 spots in my side this preseason.

If Whitfield misses RD1, then Cumming would be the best option. He featured in the top 5 for kick ins last year for GWS, yet only played 3 games.

Big opportunity this season to solidify his spot in the side due to the departure of Corr, Shaw and Williams. He has registered 15 or more disposals in 3 of his 10 career matches for a SC avg of 85.33 (90+69+97)

If the rookie situation in the defence is dire and little to none have been announced in advance, then I think opting for both could be the way to go.

I've been burned by Cumming before and wouldn't go there again, so if it had to be one I would say Young.

But I'm not really sold on either as picks - I'd rather find the dollars to go up to a "nearly" premium like Zac or Duggan.

I’m picking Lloyd
His consistency as a defender is equal to that of Oliver
I think clarry will fall back to 110-115 this year which is fine but I think we’ll be able to get him for 550k after being tagged

Lloyd won’t fall under 600k and is 5-10 points better then the rest of the defenders bar laird and Whitfield who isn’t even gonna play round 1. I think you can get cheaper guys like Fyfe jelly titch m crouch who can match what Oliver will provide where as getting a Stewart short l Mac Docherty is probably 10-15 points off Lloyd
Lloyd to start Oliver to upgrade

Neale and Caldwell vs Rowell and Dunkley
I really don't quite get the Caldwell love. He's a 20yo who has played 9 games and we expect him to average... 90-95 to make him a good pick?

Sure, Andy Brayshaw made the jump from that price(ish) and age last year but he had two full seasons in the seniors behind him.

So Rowell and Dunkley. Or find 30k and make it Walsh and Dusty instead :p!

If you are worried about a player who has played 9 games, Rowell has played 5. Sounds like it has to be option 2 if you are going to using that logic.

Also wondering whether people actually watched him at GWS. He didn't really stand out in any way to me, even if that was in a less than ideal role. You'd want a bit more to go on if expecting a breakout season.
