If you are worried about a player who has played 9 games, Rowell has played 5. Sounds like it has to be option 2 if you are going to using that logic.
Ha too right. I'm not really keen on Rowell that much either, hence the alternate suggestion at the end.

At least Rowell showed something extraordinary in those 5 games whereas Caldwell, not so much.

I know the Steele v Oliver v Macrae question has been done to death but what about the addition of Lloyd to the equation?

Would be keen to hear how people rank all four of the above 650-660k guys..

Just a simple 1 to 4 ranking if people have the time as I am really struggling to separate them!

For mine, at this stage...

1. Lloyd
2. Oliver
3. Steele
4. Macrae

Oliver 1. He's gone just about 110+ every season after his first. Absolute lock in Melbourne's midfield.

Lloyd 2. He's come out and literally said that the whole gameplan is to get the ball in his hands.

Macrae 3. He's done it before. Personnel changes will make it uncertain whether he goes 120+ again.

Steele 4. Should do well, but remains to be seen how he'll handle a full season at this level.

1&2 and then a gap, then 3&4.

FWIW I have all 4.

I would go
1 loyd - best floor & variance
2 oliver - regularity
3 macrae - dogs curse
4 steele - last year inflated maybe ? target upgrade for sure

I look at Lloyd and think... no defender (to my knowledge) has ever really backed up a season scoring that high. Not even BJ Goddard, who posted a 130 season.

His numbers for 2020 were not a whole lot different to 2019 (~31 disposals down to ~26, so a slight increase given the shortened game time) and everything was pretty close, except a little more tackles and an increase in contested possessions from 15% to around 23%. I still don't know what really caused that... shorter quarters maybe meaning more players around the ball? So if he puts up "normal" numbers in a "normal" year, he should average around 110 right? (112 and 108 before last year).

So I have Lloyd as 108-112, low variance as @nicohighscore suggests. I don't think he gets near 120 again due to the above.
Oliver 110-120, closer to 113/114 but with potential to jump up. His floor seems to be pretty solid at 110 and he's still getting better.
Macrae 110-120, closer to the lower end than 120 I think given magnets, but 3 straight seasons of 120 says he certainly can do it again.
Steele 105-120, could be anything this year.

So maybe Oliver, Macrae, Lloyd, Steele. But perhaps Lloyd jumps up to 2 because he is a clear D1 and Macrae could get thrown around before Bevo realises he is an elite ball user and gives him a constant role again, like the last few years.

BB how is Oliver's pre season? is he fighting fit and good to go?
I can't say with absolute certainty but from what I've observed, I believe he has had a solid pre-season to date. He had the shoulder clean-up at the end of last season so has been in full training for a while now.

I saw an article the other day which had question marks re: his preparation but I believe it was just a scheduled lighter session for him that day.

So as far as I know, he is fighting fit and good to go.

Thanks!

Currently I am going POD with Petracca over Oliver as I just love his SC game. I have had them both a few times but all 3 of Gawn, Oliver, Petracca from the same team feels high risk with a 'COVIDBALL scenario where games could be moved or cancelled
