Interesting/strange trade. Adelaide seem to have the worst of it on my reading. I’m sure they have their reasons.

What have the saints gained from that?
Even though on face value the points coming in are less, once you account for the Daicos, Darcy, Fahey, and potentially a few other bids, these selections will move up the draft board as the picks to match from those clubs are removed, thus the points value of those picks gained by the Saints will increase. They have two NGA prospects this year which they'll be looking to match on, they'll just be crossing their fingers that Owens (who reportedly is of interest to clubs in the late teens region) drops outside the top 20 so they can match the bid with the new NGA rules this year.

Most likely will look to use those picks in some way or another to get the Dawson deal done. And while we'd expect the Demons to be backend of the first round again next year, a future first (if held) may come in handy for any potential cracks at Lukosius and/or Rankine next year. There's also a few pretty decent looking SA prospects next year who early days are tracking as first rounders even this far out.

You’re probably right re the Dawson trade. Seems a little contentious given that he’s still contracted, maybe Adelaide are trading to a specific pick that Sydney have indicated will help get it done.

Why are the Suns stockpiling so many '22 picks? I get that they don't really have the list space this year but once you're bringing in future fourths behind 8-10 other picks you're no chance of actually using it? Not like they're saving up for father/son bids either...

Relatedly, what's the obligatory amount of picks that every club needs to take this year?

They’ll be able to package up these 2022 picks next year and work their top end picks up the draft order. For example, a team like the Lions who have a potential top 5 father son in Will Ashcroft will look to move their first for multiple later picks like what Collingwood and the Bulldogs are doing this year.
