The umpiring this season has been woeful. Having said that they should not be given instructions of what to focus on each week. Just confuses the ****e out of everyone. Have one interpretation of the rules and go with it all season. At least then we get some consistency, good or bad.

4 tackles for Gawn.

The definition of a tackle is...

When a player stops an opposition player with possession of the ball from getting his kick or handball away in a legal manner, or reduces the effectiveness of the opposition's disposal.

So to get a tackle stat, you don't necessarily have to wrap the bloke up.

For example, during the second term Oliver stuck out an arm which made contact with Amon (I think) as he was getting a handle away, the hand ball ineffective as it went to a Melbourne player, this resulted as a tackle stat for Oliver.

EDIT: 6 of Gawn's 7 possessions have been contested, which helps also.
Is that the official explanation from the rules ?

If so (which I am sure it is) , getting his kick or handball away in a legal manner stands out.......

And thanks for the explanation.

Anything official on Doedee yet?

Can’t find anything recent on the internet. If there was something on the news about it, has anybody got a link or at least know who confirmed the news?
I posted about it as it was headlines on the News here in Adelaide , my apologies as I don't have Twitter to attach a official link or anything.

That passage of play was so Melbourne. Petracca nails a great tackle, some nice ball movement ends up with Viney who kicks a 10 metre grubber to the man on the mark. They get it back, Oliver turns it over immediately. Port go inside 50, May decides to push a Port player instead of picking up the ball and Port kick a goal.
