Nick Martin is of great interest with his role change and I see him in a lot of teams. But his price of $490K is difficult. For me I don't see him as a keeper so how much cash does he need to generate to be a good pick? Or is a rookie who will make more money a better option? The upside is that he will probably get DPP and we switch him down back I suppose.

Nic Martin would have to become a top 3 defender in the game to be a good "cash cow" - so yeah it's keeper or bust for him.

I'm of the opinion that it's really hard to justify picking anyone above $450k unless there is some obvious sort of role or development change that could indicate a breakout year.

At best, these picks just end up relatively stagnating on their previous year's average and not break your bank, but it just feels as though that extra cash could be used around your line up.

At worst, they don't work out and although their price is going to be decent enough to not crush you, you may have to blow 2 trades to move them on.

More trades this year will enable more risk, but that price range makes it hard to justify unless there are obvious changes to a player's role or usage that they didn't previously have.

What about someone like Ollie wines?
Was moved to a wing that didn’t suit and av 83
Now back to inside mid can get back to a 105?

As far as I'm aware, Hinkley said that an absolutely fit Wines will play more midfield.

It seems as though this will hinge on his fitness and ability to keep up with the pace in the midfield.

Knee surgery in 2022 undoubtedly slowed him down, so it all depends on how his pre-season and training has gone, and whether or not he is fully fit to play big midfield time.

I wouldn't be picking him personally, but I can understand the appeal. Unfortunately, we don't get Rd 0 to see how he goes so it would be a bit of a flyer to pick him this early IMO.

Should you be starting a Mid, that you only hope can hit 105, and make $100k?
Seems the upside result is still short of what you want/need.
On a side note, hard to see how Wines can get those midfield minutes with the young PTA brigade of Butters, JHF, and Rozee taking most CBA's, so with that, hard to see him reaching 105 anyway.
