Thought id throw up my team as it sits the day of the picker going down. 40.5k in the kitty

Montagna, Laird, Hodge, Scharenberg, Berry, Newman, Ryan, Long

Danger, Pendles, JPK, Fyfe, Beams, Swallow, SPP, Myers, Freeman, Graham, Bolton

Goldy, Sandi, Strnadica

Dahl, Lids, Franklin, Macrae, Roughy, Knight, Pickett, Eddy.

Pretty standard defence I think, Hodge is worth the risk IMO.

Ive really warmed to Swallow over the last couple weeks as there isnt really any downside that i can see if he flops early. Having him at M6 allows Roughy at F5 as i really dont have a lot of confidence in the fwd rookies this year.

No Witts and no escape plan if Sandi goes down early but i think its a calculated enough risk to go for.

Probably 4 and possibly 5 of the top 10 fwds to start the season with is something that id normally not go for, but again unless some decent rookies present i think the deep forward line may end up better than the deep midfield.

Any feedback greatly appreciated lads.

This team could go absolutely ballistic early, could also see you ranked 100k after 3 weeks with 3+ injury trades to do, too risky for mine but I can see the appeal. Not the worst team going around.

DEF: Rance, Adams, Hartlett, Berry, Vickers-Willis, Newman (Ryan, Stewart).
MID: Pendlebury, Treloar, Kennedy, Bontempelli, Fyfe, Heppell, Beams, Myers, (Powell-Pepper, Barrett, Hibberd).
RUCK: Goldstein, Sandilands (Strnadica).
FWD: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Heeney, Ryder, Black, Eddy (Bolton, Rioli).
Only finished ~40k this year so I'm mostly interested in hearing if I've made any absolute howlers. I'm also worried that my team is a little injury prone (Adams, Hartlett, Fyfe, Beams, Sandilands, Dahlhaus, Macrae).
Not much wrong here mate, Id avoid Hartlett as I don't see much upside in him. No danger might sting you a bit early but if you can get some comparable captain scores, negates much of the damage. There's going to be a lot of teams with 6/7 blokes you've listed as injury prone mate, if they go ping you wont be alone.

Disagree with many of the premo picks, but I think you're definitely on the right track in terms of team structure. I've seen a few 3-0-5 or even 2-0-6 forward lines intending to field 3-4 of those repulsive basement priced rookies and just can't see it holding up.

A midfield that deep always looks glamorous on paper. However in reality it's often just not worth it, even in a year with a relatively thin midfield rookie stock.

Apart from that premium picks are good, but I don't think anyone can justify not having either Macrae or Dahlhaus this year.

I too am considering the Harley rough double at f3 and f4. Just way too much value in what I think is the weakest line this year. Are we onto something here or downright crazy?

I don't mind that, I have Harley but not Roughy at the moment, but Roughy is just outside my team atm.

Nice team, we have a few slight differences in premo picks but your team is probably just as likely to succeed as mine.

I know rookies might still be placeholders but Ainsworth is a small forward with questionable J/S so cant see him being a good pick.

Yeah, placeholders atm, and since he's pretty expensive he'll be a lot easier to switch to someone else, which is very convenient.

cant disagree more tbh far from only a small forward can play midfield very well which is why he was pick 4 and would have good j/s you would imagine being as good a midfielder as he is

Who out of the following players will he have midfield spot over?

-David Swallow
-Jarryd Lyons
-Gary Ablett
-Aaron Hall
-Pearce Hanley
-Michael Barlow
-Touk Miller
-Michael Rhischetelli
-Matt Rosa

Even 2nd/3rd tier players like
-Jack Bowes
-Ah-Chee
-Jesse Loneragan
-Will Brodie

Will be ahead.

Ainsworth was drafted as a small forward. Why would Gold Coast play him midfield at all with the midfield list given above and a clear lack of small/medium forwards?

he's a smaller petracca pretty much who will probably play 50% forward 40% midfield and 10% bench and will probably score around the 70 mark which will be good enough to last to round 9

That's an interesting side BigRuss, I don't mind it. A few thoughts:

- Your backs look good. I'd probably feel more comfortable with Hodge if he was more durable (especially with Scahrenberg there too), but I can see the potential upside.

- Your mids look good, but obviously light relative to the structure most of us have been landing on recently. I moved to six premiums (Beams being a premium) recently and have subsequently added Swallow. It's possible I/we have gone too far - certainly in a normal year you'd say that's too heavy given the mids are usually the best cash cows.

- Your rucks are the same as mine, which is also the best available given their prices, in my eyes. Witts may not be in your team, but he is still my escape plan for Sandi if required. I'll just bring him in if/when I need to, rather than in advance. We will also know how he is going at that point. Giles is another option.

- Your forwards are really the edge here. I like the scoring potential, although I'm not sure about the aggregate iniury risk on this line - I wouldn't back Buddy, Lids or Roughy to play 21-22 as things stand. You might find you end up playing Pickett and Eddy without having expected to. Another option you could consider is someone like McCarthy. I was initially quite skeptical on him but have come around, and he should have good JS and reasonable, if inconsistent, cash generation potential. Personally, I have three forward premiums and three $200k players, so I'm avoiding playing the basement priced rookies as well, but I have an extra mid premium. It's probably a matter of personal preference/a function of how the rookie-priced players and the riskier premiums look heading into round one.

- You look extremely light for R12 bye players, so I'm guessing you may be headed for a donut as things stand. Sometimes I think people compromise their team too much to avoid a donut, but you can certainly make up a lot of ground over the byes with a good plan - I finally got this right last year and it helped enormously. Rance, Selwood and maybe even JJK or Priddis could be options to consider, noting that NicNat's absence may hurt the Weagles.

- I note you're a Port fan and that you don't have Ryder - no interest from you, or was he just edged out by options you like more?
