interesting comment

lot of people getting excited about the new kick in rules , yet comments I have read from about 6 clubs say they won't necessarily have a designated kicker and it may be closest to the ball that actually kicks it in to keep the game moving.

Think people may be dissapointed by this 6-6-6 rules , once general plays start it will pretty much be 2-14-2 with the majority of players still in one half and then "roll" forward.

Wish they made the rule that at least 2 players from every team had to stay inside F50 at all times.

Maybe if the umpires throw the ball up quicker and actually apply the incorrect disposal of the ball , the congestion will clear.

I always though when you were tackled you had to kick or handball it away , not just drop or pass it.

Tighten the existing rules up and we might actually end up with a "better" looking game than the rolling U9 maul we have in place now.

Just my thoughts
I’ve said on here before with the amount of set shot behinds and behinds with defenders all in relative proximity to the goal that one specialist kick in taker will take more than in years gone bye. Camporaele has spoken on how dangerous B Smith will be from kick outs.

Roughly 50% of behinds will be scored from a set shot so each team will have time to get their designated kicker back to the goal line.

As for the other 50% - I see it as completely up in the air based on:
a) a team's overall desire to play quickly or slowly; and
b) how much better the preferred kicker is than his team-mates.

Going to be tuning in to JLT like I never have before!
Is that a verified stat ? or an observation ?

Would be great to know the actual % breakdown for behinds for set shots , in play , rushed etc etc

Certainly be interesting how clubs use it that is for sure , they may even actually try and take it slower if the pace of the game is helter skelter.

JLT hopefully will give us some answers or confuse is even more ?

It’s probably about 30-40% in fairness and not 50%

fair enough

as long as Smith is on the field and close enough to take the kick that is fine , they also like to use him and Milera to provide run and carry from defence which I know they have been keen to improve.

Think it was the Lions and Kangaroos who said they had 3-4 players that would take them depending on circumstances.

Love to know the % breakdown of behinds whether they are set shots , general play or rushed.

Hmmm that will be interesting, lions have Hodge, Rich and Witherden on kick ins and North don’t have a stand out kick in taker after Tarrant so I guess that’s fair. Even though the Lions use those 3 they use Witherden the most. You are right that some of those who get the short kick could lose a little but if you’re picking a player on kick out duties I think it’s outweighed by the kick ins and the points he will get. Teams will be more likely to go long but will still go short. Witherden might lose a mark worth 1-2 points and about 2.5 from effective kicks that follow per game. I’d counter he’ll gain 5-10 points from kick ins. Some are claiming the kick ins are gonna be worth 10-20 which I think is a bit ridiculous but I still see them increasing scores.

I really need to see the tables for all the clubs to see who there kicker ins are.

Bailey may change things at Brisbane.

Be interesting to see where all these "extra" points come from as there is still the 3300 point maximum for each game , so mids , rucks and fwds will lose points.

Very interesting to see how it all pans out and what tactics clubs employ , I guess at the end of the day they really need to maintain possession and not turn it over to the opposition.

Last season Giants Ave 13.1 behinds per game , Carlton 9.1

every one else in between
On the last point as well players who get short kick ins who are the “get us out of defence” option will find ways to adapt to the rule and you might see them playing up the ground and the kick in player playing on and trying to get the ball to them through a different means. My old man was sitting next to a Carlton player on a flight home from Queensland a couple of weeks ago and he told him that “the zone is dead”

no zone , no web , no cluster

imagine the majority of players will be set up between the arcs so not sure what they will call it

be good to sneak into a club and see what is on the whiteboards

did your dad get any tips for SC ?

Pulled it out of where the sun doesn't shine (I was on the throne at the time so it made logical sense :ROFLMAO:)

Would love to see a more genuine % breakdown though

Anybody (Tigers or otherwise) got a view on JRoo? The two Richmond fans I've spoken to in the office seem locked in the view that Lynch plays out of the square while JRoo hits the logos.

If that is true, then surely JRoo starts getting within touching distance of NRoo levels of scoring? He won't match peak NRoo but it'd be enough for Top 6 you'd think.

If we were going off what we've seen today I would say Michael Walters will spend the vast majority of his time in the midfield this season. He's been too good in there and the other small forwards have done enough in his absence.
