2020 reminds me of 2018, lots of speculative picks that never had a full premo season. The 3 cheap guys were Sicily, McLean and Devon. This year its quite difficult as I've decided to forgo Heeney and his quad/thumb issues.

I'm starting to like Parish, article today saying he spoke to the coach about playing more midfield, averaged 94 I think (less injury game) when playing more midfield. In his 5th year and has a good trajectory improving every year.

Keeping an eye on Ceglar, R/F and averaged 90 in his games as solo ruck (against mostly crap rucks though), so not sure if he's any good, but with BB training in def it might be worth a look. Seems like too much has to go right for this pick to work though.

My F4 is Bailey Smith, there's is nothing surer than this guy being a superstar, but its probably early, especially because hes 6-12 months younger than some of his draft crop. But with his first full AFL preseason I am hoping for a 90 odd average. Not one for breakout picks but because of the "superdraft" I may make an exception. Was pondered as the number 1 pick before his achilies. Adds a bit of burst to the midfield.
RE: Baily Smith
With so many good WBDs midfielders and who are high SC scorers, will there be any SC points left for Smith :)

RE: Parish
Thinking he has a better chance of more midfield time then Smith, based on that ESS mids aren't as good as WBDs.

RE: Ceglar
If I could be sure that Ceglar is the No1 ruckman at Hawthorn, then I would not hesitate to include him in my forward line (bonus Ruck cover with Comben). I'm not confident McEvoy playing in Defence will work.

Yep, one of the most effective stoppage players around and Jordan Russell (new mid coach) has said that he's trying to get Toby in the middle as much as he can but it's a tough unit to crack into. Combine that with Dunkley stating that he'll play forward a little bit if it's for the good of the team and I am keeping a close eye on McLean.
Tough unit indeed. Macrae, Bont and Dunkley are probably the best 3-mid combination going around at the moment. Maybe Gaff, Kelly and Yeo will give them a shake this year but on 2019 form, you'd just about have to be a Fyfe or Cripps to push one of them out.

doubts on who is a premium , whether mid pricers are viable or not , maybe just start a all rookie forward line and see what happens

Bonar * , Flanders * , Kropenyeri-Pickett , Weightman , Cockatoo * , Cameron * , King , Rankine

Hill * , Brander * in the picture as well

maybe Bergman , Hosie & Mosquito

EDIT

forgot Cavarra as well , still waiting for him from last year

This is more like the Herbie we've come to expect. This pre-season has been far too mainstream.

Rucks first ✓
then the rookies
fill in the rest as we go

all conjecture & speculation at the moment until we get closer

besides they are all training the house down and expected to get midfield minutes

could go 6+Rowell+Pickett in the mids ?

Yeah fair points. For me I like Parish, reading BF and watching his interview it sounds like he's playing inside mid this year, 94 avg when he played mid in 2019. I might pick B.Smith as it fits the structure (I am aware of the high risk here), but I'd be betting he goes past the other mids bar the big 3, which is possible but I can't be sure. A lot can go wrong with Ceglar so yeah probably a pass, low chance of working.

re: Devon Smith

with thanks to TooSerious Salary forecasting , if he scored exactly 100 for the first 6 rounds (yes I realise that is not likely to happen) he would be approx $ 433 k at the start of Round 7 , so almost in time for 1 down/1 up if he looks like being a Top 6 Forward.

Given rookies will determine our final structures I am now liking

2-1-5
5-0-6
2-0-1
2-1-5 or 1-2-5

Just looking at Tom J Lynch in 2019 on Footywire.

Round 1-7......7 games @ 60.85
Round 8-16....8 games @ 59.87
Round 17-23..7 games @ 95.71
Finals.............3 games @ 106.66

Jack Riewoldt returned in Round 17
So which half do you take ....

- Started under done as we all all know
- Finished strongly but had a massive incentive to do so ...

So to me a hero or zero pick early on ...
