I've put Robbie in my team after one of your posts BigRuss because he doesn't have to get back to his best to be a good pick. But Wingard would have to get back to what we think is his absolute best and even then I don't think he would hurt non owners. His best years still included lots of goals. In 2013 he was only 4 goals behind Jay Schultz and in 2015 he was Port's leading goal kicker. Hawthorn have Gunston, Breust, Lewis, Patton and Puopolo who would all like some goals.
Interestingly enough Wingard best years at Port were when he was part of a functional forward line, which Hawthorn have traditionally shown. He averaged a shade under 103 when played as a mid full time at Port in his last season, off the back of 2 back to back soft tissue injuries in the pre season too.
He’s clearly not for everyone, but when I look through the forward eligible players trying to find the ones who look to be midfielders, he stands out like dogs balls. As I said in a different thread, each year the top forwards are exactly those types players.
I’m predicting a career year for Chad if he stays fit, Hawks will turn him into the player we never could.
