I am also struggling to keep up on this thread and I am on holidays checking in every few hours!

Hadn't considered Naismith (forgot he was back, so thanks to this site once again!), can we take a step back though when considering this.

@NT.Thunder is correct in that we first need to assume Gawn will be his normal dominate self and come down by price deflation as normal.

Naismith helps other lines although needs to go up. His prior scoring is not super strong, does anyone know did he share the ruck with Callum Sinclair, looks like he did, maybe 60/40. Are we confident this has changed?

I have used Lycett in this role previously when he was $250k and my mood varied depending whether you had a 40 or a 75 out of him. He finally went on a roll of good scores.

80 from Naismith would be good, would likely make $125k out of him w/out a spike score. Can he do this?
Just looked at his stats v gws on the afl app.
Says Naismith only played 55% tog for 79 points.
Sinclair 75%tog for 22 points.
Did Sinclair have an all time mare?
I didnt see the match.

I’m warming more and more to the Naismith pick. I’m not sure if it’s a huge upside or downside that he’s only played 22 games as a 27 year old though.

While I was confident a few weeks ago, as it stands at the moment it looks to me that an F5 rookie is basically unplayable and shifting that rookie position to R2 makes the most sense if you want to maintain the 5 deep midfield. If you’re happy to go in with 4 midfielders, I think Gawn has to get the nod as making potentially 5 600k+ upgrades in reasonable time in the current rookie landscape looks highly improbable.

Sinclair played predominantly forward and didn’t see much of the ball, but he also had a bit of a mare, a few frees when he was in the ruck. Sydney also had a rookie ruck a bit at the end of the game.

i have had Naismith in my team a few days, recently changed him to ceglar though

i feel as though if ceglar can compete and score well against 2 high quality ruck men, in Ryder and Marshall
he is a legitimate chance at going near 100 ave?

Naismith wasn't versing the highest quality ruck which is why i am moving away from him until i see more

It’s just not as much cash freed up which is the reason to do it in my mind rather than try to find 100ppg from the alternative. If you only spend $250k you won’t be looking for 100 meanwhile you’ve in theory got a better rookie set up on field (less of them the better it seems!).

Not Sinclair attend 30% of centre bounces (Naismith 60%), which is less for Sinclair than when they both played together in 2017.

Was vs Sam Jacobs, so no chump either.

Sinclair doesn't score well forward, based on my experience when he was WCE.

Naismith 79pts 55% TOG is well above what he has achieved before his injury, so still a little wary but open minded on this move.

One issue for me for going Gawn to Naismith is where to spend the money? sounds silly, but do I trust all these mid price forwards. Devon, Petracca, Chad, Ceglar, Acres, Greenwood, Macpherson etc etc. Could move Stephen Hill forward and get my guaranteed mid price defenders in, Brodie Smith, Roberton, Doedee, Noble, rampe, Newman, Sicily, Crisp, Weller and Dawson!

would love to say ship a premium in, however, top 6 defenders all have question marks and forwards only Whitfield and Dusty look solid.

Considering a similar move but with D Hannebery at M6 and Nic Nat at R2 in place of Naismith and an injury prone mid premium. Early injury to either will allow T Green/mid rookie and M Gawn to come in assuming there are no large price changes and I have sufficient cash lying around. If they both stay fit, then they have shown they’re capable of combining for 190-220 on a weekly basis.
Hanners at M5/M6 could be quite reasonable (didn't realise how cheap Angus Brayshaw) is as well.

Think if Gawn plays this weekend I will just start him and try and save one headache at least.

I will surprised if Hannerbery plays more than 5 games in a row this season.

Last year when people were saying you can't start Grundy and Gawn because ruckmen can't back it up two years in a row, does that rule get thrown out the window now that they have backed it up? Or should it mean if it was improbable last year it is impossible this year?

I'm looking at a mid price ruck this year as I have some doubts about Gawn going 130 again..at least to begin the season..and I'm not sold on Naismith as an option.

North Melb.
I wonder if a Naismith into Marshall play might make sense this year, given the bye.
I was going through in my head possible Port and StK premiums to bring in R12 and only got Houston really. Totally forgot about Marshall and... Lycett. Better look at the draw - if they play weak rucks through the byes could be an awesome slingshot.

Just went up to Woolies to get some dunny paper and on the way back on the radio, Blighty was talking to Dean Brogan. He said Lycett ($550k, 2%) was flying this preseason. I'm assuming he will do the vast majority of the ruck this year for Port. He went ballistic last year for a few games mid year, then dropped off and maybe injured? Another POD ruck, but it seems Gawn is good to go now anyway.

Edit: forgot about the China situation.

if 2 weeks of full training prior to R1 out of the last 3 months is “good to go” then yes

Sorry couldn’t resist
