Thanks for your thoughts. The concerns you raise are the ones I'm grappling with as well. If NN's game time is reduced from 70 mins to 60 mins, then the upside is pretty much nullified as well.

I think the point about missing games due to short turnarounds could equally apply to Gawn as well. They have Jackson and also Preuess is 3-5 weeks away. It could also apply to Grundy/Cameron and Naismith/Sinclair/Knoll. So so many unknowns. B.Williams if he becomes a playing backup option helps with all of those.

A NN/BWilliams "handcuff" combo could help somewhat nullify the risk of missed games by NN as if NN misses, surely you can bet BWilliams plays. The cover may not always line up as nicely if say a Gawn or Naismith misses.

In any case, we should probably just be happy that the game is going ahead and try get as much enjoyment out of it as possible. Having NN in my side definitely adds to the enjoyment of watching WCE games so it is very tempting!
If we do play a condensed schedule, then I think the rucks will have a major impact to their scores. There will either be more of a timeshare in the role and/or resting for games just to get them through the season. I think this does reduce their value especially the more you pay (Gawn being resting for one game is worse from a cap viewpoint then NN/Naismith being rested). On the flipside, I can see some huge scores from rucks in the condensed format of the game, especially with HTA being scored nearly the same as a goal.

Flipping through all 3 now...

You make some very good points.

Nic Nat is so tempting, and even more so for me being an Eagles fan... Would love to whack him in my team and then cheer him on every week.

With our ruck situation at West Coast... I reckon if Nic Nat has a game off... Hickey comes in to play lead ruck. Can't see us wanting to hand the lead ruck role to a rookie. I think Williams is battling Vardy for the backup role, as I don't think we'll play Hickey & Nic Nat together now Williams has announced himself, as both Hickey and Nic Nat are lead ruckmen types. Williams has such an advantage for the backup ruck role in my opinion as he is the best forward of the lot.

That 240k from dropping Gawn to Nic Nat does look very appealing though. And the more I read and think about it... The more I'm considering Nic Nat.
If you go NicNat you hvae to go early, 30 trades will soften the blow the only issue with a reduced number of games, no byes and so many trades is if you fall behind that's it pretty much for the year i reckon. Will be hard to make ground. Need to trade aggress to keep at the top.
I think this is a very good point. It'll be harder to justify jumping onto a NN later on but if you start him from the start it's easier to jump off if it goes pear shaped. Who knows, maybe he bashes out 5-6 games in a row with 110+ scoring and then you can swap him to Gawn anyway after a decent price rise.

I don't think B.Williams gets a lead ruck role, but I think he should continue to get that backup ruck role. The annoying thing would be if WCE decided to flip both NN/B.Williams for Hickey/Vardy in the same round. I guess at that point you would just have to trade NN.

I've been flipping hard recently, but am slowly firming on taking the punt on NN. May as well have some fun with it and when you think of shortened games, NN is the first person that comes to mind, so I'm leaning towards going with it!

Yeah, I'm flipping hard between NN/Naismith. Also considering Gawn too. Also considering NN R2 / Naismith R3 as that might help with the risk of rucks missing.

It will be interesting to see how Grundy goes in the Friday game. If he bashes out a 200, I may just flip to Gawn as you are right, HTAs could be very valuable and are much easier to rack up. Just not sure if Gawn/Grundy tend to score/accumulate more later in quarters or games when their opposing rucks tire. If that's the case, maybe their input suffers.

If Bailey Williams can outleap Naitanui this is gonna be a really good look at his scoring potential against the best tap ruckman. If NN is rested for half a qtr gonna be interesting to see his output.

I'm thinking the same thing as Gawn is HOTA points guy and Grundy is around the ground gatherer so i am going bold and Picking Gawn+NN. Giving Grundy a pass for rd1 to see what happens and if i need to ill go Goldstein instead.

2 weeks ago pretty much everyone on this site (me included) had very similar structures just the names in boxes were different, now we will see a lot of variance i reckon.

Was ready to give up on SC yesterday, now I'm loving the last minute changes! I think a lot of presason research is still valid so dont throw everything away, but prepared to react quickly after tonights game eg if Kruezer and Nank somehow bust out 200's (or conversly 30s).

To be clear - 3 games in a 14-ish day period is what is on the table
which is no different to previous seasons, Sunday, Saturday, Friday night = 3 games in a fortnight

my understanding was they were looking at fast tracking games on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday

eg 2 teams fly to Perth so they have 1 v 2, 3 v 4 on the Saturday , on Wednesday they play 1 v 4 , 2 v 3 , following Saturday they play 1 v 3 , 2 v 4

similar to 2 teams going to to Adelaide , brisbane & Sydney or flying the non-Victorian teams to Melbourne

ONE PSA for everyone who keeps tinkering with their rucks like me. Please do not forget to set the Emergency on your ruck if you are planning to do the captain loophole on your ruck. I keep finding that the E disappears with every tinker I make.

I know one of our resident members of the leadership group has been caught out in a past season (names shall not be named) but please take care all!
