QLD TO BECOME THE HOME OF FOOTY FOR 2020

The AFL has told clubs and players it wants to extend hub stays until the end of the home and away season.

As first reported by Gerard Whateley on SEN, Victorian clubs were told they will be based in Queensland for nine more weeks, while Perth will operate as a secondary hub.

NSW-based teams will relocate and families will be allowed to join staff and players in Queensland and Western Australia.

The submission has not yet gained approval from the AFL Players’ Association, which plans to speak to delegates and its board on Wednesday to reach a consensus.

Foxfooty.com.au understands there will be no giant phone hook-up like there was towards the beginning of the season and nor will more than 800 players be asked to vote.

But it appears the players will have little choice but to accept the league’s new plan — which goes against the original proposal of five weeks in hubs and no more — for the good of the game.

To keep the season afloat, the league has decided it needs to fit 11 rounds in nine weeks, according to a senior club official familiar with the AFL’s objectives.

If ticked off, Victorian clubs would end up being away from home from Rounds 6-17 and potentially finals.

After enduring indifferent hub experiences from Rounds 2 to 6, West Coast and Fremantle appear destined to spend the rest of the 2020 home and away season in their home city.

By moving teams out of NSW after the next batch of games, the AFL is continuing to out-run the Covid-19 virus.

It’s understood the league is keen to play at least a few games in Darwin, but broadcasting games from the Northern Territory capital presents financial and logistical headaches.

The AFL’s submission raises serious questions on whether the 2020 Grand Final can be played at the MCG.

Although the Melbourne Cricket Club remains committed to hosting football’s biggest day, it now appears increasingly unlikely.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the AFL had approached her about moving more of its teams and players to Queensland.

It comes after Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed hundreds more players, teams and staff were likely to set up camp north.

And the premier again lobbied AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan for this year’s Grand Final to be played in Queensland.

With clubs currently based in New South Wales set to abandon the state amid a rise in COVID-19 cases, Premier Palaszczuk said the AFL had approached her about moving more of its teams and players to Queensland.

Speaking after announcing no new COVID-19 cases for the state, Ms Palaszczuk said the AFL was hoping to “book accommodation for hundreds of players and officials at Queensland hotels for two months”, but stressed the health of the state’s citizens remained the No. 1 priority.

Just on the (ridiculous PC rubbish) of Washington having to remove the name "Redskins" from their football team, mainly to appease WHITE SJW's, who are offended on others behalf ......

I wonder how Eddie will react, when these WSJW's turn their attention to Collingwood's theme song, and pressure them to remove

"..... oh the premiership's a cakewalk ..."

seeing as it is a reference to slavery times, when the slaves used to hold talent contests. The prize was a piece of cake, and some people were too nervous to perform. To make it easy for them, all they had to was walk on stage, and they'd get their piece of cake. Hence the name of getting something "easily" became a "cakewalk".

I've been telling anyone that would listen, for 15-20 years now, that the ridiculousness of all this PC rubbish will destroy society as we know it. If we look at where this "cancel culture" rubbish is heading, which was the inevitable direction PC was heading, you might get an idea of how bad it is going to get in the future, and see that I am right.
Like most (but not all) "right fighters" in history, their efforts to "try and make things better for others, and to unify as all", only end up in having the exact opposite effect, and causing greater division.

Over to you Eddie, I wonder if CFC have a plan in place, when their theme song is "noticed" by the WSJW's!!!!

I doubt many people would know that definition for cakewalk, I had never heard it used that way before. I honestly never knew where the origins of the term were from, seems it's not clear, with some saying the term comes from:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cakewalk_(carnival_game)?wprov=sfla1

This makes more sense to me. I would love to see outrage happen though, purely for Eddie's reaction.

Fairly sure the Hawks song is OK being based on the tune of The Yankee Doodle Boy, as that term is related to the side of the war wanting to abolish slavery, but I'm sure people could claim to find offense in it still.

On mobile - Go to your "My Team" page
Select the down arrow next to "Field" (Under your remaining salary towards top of page)
Then select "History" from the drop down menu
Next select the right arrow at top of screen next to "My Team"
This takes you to the league results page where you can choose "Trade History"
Cheers

It is interesting. The first I heard of the slavery connection was when Eddie himself explained it on the Footyshow around 20 years ago. I just googled Cakewalk and slavery, and it brought up many references to it being a dance. The easy implication referring to it being done on their day off, rather than the dance itself being easy.
The fair ground definition implies a raffle.
I rather like Collingwood singing
"oh the Premiership's a raffle....", but I'm pretty sure it refers to it being easy.

I think I just found the reason for the name change:

Nike and FedEx are among a group of corporations (PepsiCo was also included) whose investors requested that they end their relationships with Washington unless the team changes its name. FedEx CEO Fredrick Smith is a part owner of the team.

Gaff and Yeo have just appeared on the radar. Time to search for stats on their home game performance. And Don’t forget T.Kelly.
On paper... The Eagles guys should all come on strong now we are home... However in the next batch of games we do play COL & HAW who we lost to at home last season, and GEE who beat us twice last year... So we are definitely going to have to start playing better than we have been.

It seems 'cakewalk' has a few origins, so I don't think Eddie will have a problem. Since the song was written in 1906, probably no one will ever know what the song writer meant by 'cakewalk'.

cakewalk
2.
A public entertainment of the 1800s among African Americans in which walkers performing the most accomplished or amusing steps won cakes as prizes.

https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/the-song/
............It wasn’t until 1906 that a Collingwood player by the name of Tom Nelson.........took the music and made it the basis for what was to become one of football’s most stirring anthems (at least to the ears of devoted Collingwood fans)............
............The penultimate line of the song (‘Oh, the Premiership’s a cakewalk’) was changed in 1983, to avoid embarrassment after a long period without Premiership success. But the alternate version (‘There is just one team we favour’) met with little acceptance from fans and everyone soon reverted to the original. (For those who are curious, a ‘cakewalk’ was a dance that developed from a Black American contest in graceful walking, where a cake was offered as a prize.)............
