Hawks' interest in young Pie cools
Collingwood's Tom Phillips could return to the club next season, with Hawthorn "unlikely" to advance its interest in the wingman.
The Hawks have explored the option of bringing in the 24-year-old, who has a year to run on his contract at the Pies.
However, according to Hawks football boss Graham Wright, they are prioritising the draft with a focus on young talent.

Is 24 not youthful enough? Thought he would be a good get at his age and being a salary dump probably get him on the cheap. You know what you get from him.
In Wright we trust ;)

Few whispers today that his contract length and salary demands are a touch steeper than we probably want to take on, even though we comfortably could take it on.

Also the fact he does not want to leave Collingwood at all would also be another sticking point while under contract. Given he hasn't been 'outed' and thrown under the bus like they have done with Treloar.

I've had it from the horses mouth that he isn't leaving, as recently as a few days ago, so it'd have to be a full 180 on things as they stand currently for him to be on the move I think.

Well, guess you can't get a better source than that, assuming the horse you are talking about goes by the name of Tom Phillips, and not Mr Ed. ;)

Sounds like you need to be a bit more persuasive next time. Can't be too hard to point out Hawthorn are a far better choice than Collingwood! :D

Don't really follow the silly season in great detail , but it is no wonder Collingwood is in financial trouble notwithstanding the Beams , Mayne , Wells contracts fiasco.

If blokes like Cox , Phillips & Stephenson are on $ 500 - 600 k heaven help us , whoever agreed to that should be sacked.

Maybe we need a performance based contract system 😀

Treloar on $ 900k a season , imagine if he could kick.

Pendles must be on about $ 4 million a season if even some of these figures are remotely close.

Lot of money for some very average footballers.

Peter Wright to the Bombers for a future 4th round pick.

Dees traded picks 33 and 50 to the Crows for future 2nd and 4th round picks.

Didn’t play this season, I’m guessing this will make him SC relevant at R3 if the price is right? I’m assuming he’d be a lock for games now with all the talks leaving the Dons?

Think he is still overpriced and probably only fwd status. Preuss will likely get that R1 spot at GWS for cheaper in that 240-270k range.

Just remember that with Preuss, he still has Sausage Mumford at the club. The worry would be if you’re relying on Preuss for an on-field score at R1 or R2, he may miss games here and there just like Sauce Jacobs did this season.

As an aside, I’m happy for Pruessy to finally be the number 1 ruck at a club. Also happy with the Dees receiving pick 31 in return.

I for one, am happy all these people are excited about getting Preuss into their teams.
They are obviously planning on having a playing R3 for cover, or a R/F swing set. Seems strange to be excited about a $300k pick, that will nearly be certain to miss games, and his selection requires you to lock in 1 or 2 other selections.
I hope he reaches 60-70% ownership in Rnd 1!

I'm not set on him either. He has had two 100+ scores so far in his career. Definitely risk with the selection, but there is also definitely potential for it to pay off. Way too early to settle in on a team yet, but he is on my short-list (long list?) of possible ruck options. Still thinking I will likely go for set and forget rucks, but if he is DPP, I may select him in the forward line.
