Hey all, merry Christmas and all that! Deliberately stayed away from all things SC related since end of season as a self enforced break lol, but find myself drawn back to this great site as the season gets closer.

Just read this entire thread between watching cricket the last day and a bit, great reading and some really good debate. Looks like next year offers a bit more variety particularly in the rucks over the last few years with Grundy and Gawn no longer a clear choice. Also plenty of mid price options, will be interesting to see how relevant they actually are once round 1 is here.

One interesting question I have, not 1 person has mentioned Dusty. In fact I haven't checked but assume he still has his Mid Fwd dpp?. Are we just ruling a line through him in 2022 with his injury and weight loss, and tigers decline back to the pack in general (no that's not a dig at the tigers)? One of the great SC selections of yesteryear perhaps, now past his prime?

Think one person *maybe in rate my team" mentioned Dusty. I didn't start him last year and bought him in when he hit his lows to o***et those who did have him. However, hasn't been in a stand out in prior years, slight discounted by circa $20k due to injured games. Duncan and Dunkley look more affected. Think there may be more talk of midfield time with his reduced weight, however, unproven if any o***et given strength has been part of his game.

Look warm watch in pre season, although competing with Butter, Heeney, Coniglio let alone Dunks/Duncan who all have greater value.

Different topic, Daicos listed at 72kg and JHF updated weight just over 80k, appreciate JHF played SANFL yet Daicos hasn't, any concern on size, given they are both around $200k.

The 'Stand Rule' affected the Tigers style/mode of play and it took a while longer to adapt.

The ongoing injuries
  • Def - Broad, Vlastuin, Houli
  • Rucks - Soldo, Nankervis (Rnd 12 - 17, Richmond relied on Chol/CCJ)
  • Mids - Prestia, Lambert, Edwards
The depleted midfield setup consequentially impacted on Dustin Martin scoring.

Due to the kidney injury, Dustin lost weight and has slimmed down for 2022 from his 2021 playing weight.

This has resulted in the club stating Dustin will spend more time in the midfield than forward (circa 2017).

He turns 31 on 26 June, normally I would be hesitant selecting a 31 year old, however, this is not an issue for Dustin as the club has no concerns about his full recovery.

I think 2022 is far too early to write off, Dustin as a forward option, as I expect his scoring to improve with a more resilient Richmond.

Im a mad Richmond supporter and dusty is a gun but if your starting two premos in the fwd I think Dunkley and Duncan have more scoring ability than dusty. Doesn’t mean they are better players not even in the same ball park.

I want durability - I guess FOMO with Dunkley will reign supreme come round 1 lockout

Herald sun prediction of the hawks best 22. I know it’s early days, I thought josh ward would be in the team. Lack of games in the last couple of years I think we will struggle fielding enough rookies
I would be very disappointed if that was the 22 fielded at any stage this season. Not sure what the "best" lineup would be, but I hope you'd find at least 5 or 6 different names to that, Ward among them.

There's quite a few players at the Hawks who look like they will be very good players which is what makes identifying the best 22 so tough, a lot of them just need some more AFL experience to really shine. I think it's going to be at least a year or two before the Hawks are serious final threats though - need to get more experience into these developing players first, so I'm hoping a lot of the "older" players aren't played week in, week out (Hawks only have 12 players 26+, and 5 that are 30+, they are not an old list any more). They'll surprise a few teams this year.

Hawks one of the teams that I think can produce a few surprises this year in SC relevant players. Mitchell at WCE revitalised the mids. No surprise to see guys like Wingard, Worpel and O'Meara have much improved seasons in 2022. And a watch on Bramble. Only issue may be if they are rotated so much as to spread the points around too evenly.

F2.

Dunks, Dusty, Butters, Cogs.

Easy line.

To be fair, I would of gone DeGoey over Dusty, but well, yeah, probably have to give that a miss now.

I am somewhat puzzled by the amount of times Caleb Marchbank is mentioned or appears in early draft teams. I know he has shown ability in the past. I started him in 2018 when he scored a ton first up but then injuries and mixed form came back to haunt him. What do people think he will ave? Looking for 80? Injury risk?
More a 200k placeholder at this stage. Usually there is a good JS 200k guy you want in that D4-5 slot so worth trying to build your draft side with that in mind.
